Chapter Two:

The Wedding

'Ten years older than me. Just few years and he will be an old man! He wants a young girl, so he can control her, but I won't this happen even in his dreams, and..' Khushi's thoughts were interrupted by Payal's continuous knocks on the door.

"Come in,"

"Khushi dear, have you thought over it? I hope you have changed your mind."

"Payal'" Khushi hugged her crying badly, "I'm dying thinking about it. I don't feel like living anymore."

"Khushi, please understand. I know what you're thinking of, but please don't judge him before knowing him. Don't you know that the smart woman can make her husband a ring in her fingers and control him. Everything depends on you, and what you make him accustomed to. I'm sure Arnav is a good guy. He will take care if you. You just have to make this relationship work."

"But'"

"Come," Payal led Khushi to the bed as they sat, "Sit with him and talk with him first."

"I won't. It won't change anything. They have made up their minds for this rishta and the wedding is after a one week," Khushi said stubbornly.
***********

Days had passed with Khushi's stubbornness. For a single moment, even she asked herself about her behavior and fears, but the next moment she thought that she had all the rights to do so. The rituals were done in the last two days before the wedding- starting from shagun to haldi- considering the financial status of the Guptas as they asked for.
On the wedding day, Payal was with Khushi, when the make-up artist was adorning her, with a heavy heart fearing that Khushi's stubbornness wouldn't help to make the marriage good and happy one.

"I have always dreamt of a love marriage. Do not I worth it, Payal? I've weaved so many dreams for this day," Khushi chuckled ironically," And today look at me..I'm crying on my own wedding day." Khushi said as she was ready and the artist left them alone.

"Arranged marriages happen also, Khushi. Love comes after the marriage when you know each other very well. Khushi please promise me to accept him as a husband and give him a chance," Payal said with a broken tone and teary eyes hugging Khushi.

"I can't promise you."

"Khushi please," Payal almost begged.

"I don't know if I'll be able to keep a promise." Garima called them to come out as the barrat arrived.

"I will miss you, Payal." Khushi did not know what her fate had in store for her.

"Phir milenge, pagli." Payal giggled amidst the tears. She was waiting for Khushi to laugh as they were Khushi's words which she used to say to Payal and the close ones, but the time prevented Khushi from feeling. The Guptas and their relatives rode the cars to the hall, where Arnav arranged for the wedding ceremony, as he wanted to make a big wedding, not to be the talk of the media or town, but only for his bride as she deserves.

Khushi's beauty mesmerized Arnav. 'Is she still shy?' Arnav thought seeing Khushi's gaze focused on the ground once again. He grinned widely as his wish came true; she was going to be his wife after some minutes. He walked proudly towards her to greet her and her family before leading her to the priest to complete the rituals. With each phere they took, Arnav got happier promising every oath wholeheartedly while Khushi felt as if her life was taken from her gradually. Her family bid her goodbyes wishing her a happy married life. When they hugged her, she broke their embraces quickly not knowing if her feelings for them were the same like before or somehow they had slightly changed.

"My daughter is still young. Take care of her she is your responsibility now, bitwa." Shashi Gupta hugged Arnav and tapped on his shoulder.

"Don't worry, uncle. She is not only a responsibility, she is my life partner, my wife." The word 'wife' sounded different and new for Arnav, and he liked it.
.
.

Khushi felt tired as some silly (for her) games were going on, and she had to be a part of them as the Raizaadas asked her and Arnav to play another game in which they had to find a ring in a bowl had milk and roses. When Arnav's hand contacted with Khushi's, she snatched her hand as Arnav tried to hold it; she was fuming from inside at the moment, she hurriedly got the ring and showed it before speaking not caring what people would think about her, " I'm really tired nani, excuse me."

Arnav smiled, 'Not that shy, wifey!' he thought amusedly as Khushi could excuses the elderly people without any hesitance. He wanted to have some time with her and talk as he never got a chance except when he went to ask for her hands. Anjali led Khushi to hers and Arnav's room after passing a teasing wink to him.

Anjali made Khushi sit on the middle of the bed arranging her lehenga around her, and covering her face with the dupatta.

"Arnav is really a good guy, Khushi Bhabi. I'm not saying this because he is my brother, but because I know him. He has a wide heart. Get close to him, understand him then you'll own him and his heart. He does not speak a lot about his feelings if he is not encouraged especially his pain, he hides them very well when he is hurt." Anjali said trying to help Khushi to know her brother more being sure that it is so important for the new couple's relationship. "I'll come tomorrow morning for the reception to introduce you to some relatives before you go to your parents." Anjali smiled. "You are really beautiful, bhabi. I wish you and my brother a happy married life. Aur haan you'll get your gift tomorrow." Anjali said cheerfully before leaving; Khushi could only pass a smile to her.

Khushi revealed her face and clutched her lehenga hugging her knees to her chest as she felt numb not knowing what's right and what's wrong that she did not notice when Arnav entered the room.

"Congratulations'I don't believe we are finally married." Arnav smiled feeling himself being desperate to be with her. 'Finally married?! Everything happened in a hurry and he speaks as if he was waiting all his life!' Khushi thought. He sat on the edge of the bed facing her. "How are you, Khushi?" Arnav cupped her face as he bent to kiss her forehead.

"I'll be fine if you don't touch me," Khushi replied coldly removing his hands before standing on the floor just wanting to keep a distance from him.

"Khushi, what happened?" Arnav was confused. He wanted to talk with her and know her more. He had already known many things about her, but from others not her, but he did not expect such a reaction. Khushi's adrenaline got going as one of her fears happened.

'I knew he just wants my body that's why he chose me (a young girl). Our relationship would be only physical if I allowed him to touch me. He will leave me all the day alone then at night come to me to fulfill some dirty desires!' Khushi thought angrily. She was afraid from this harsh truth which her mind convinced her to be the main reason behind their marriage.

"Just stay away," She said sharply opening the bag she brought with herself to change her outfit.

Arnav was bewildered from Khushi's behaviour, but Payal's words which he could not digest at first helped him slightly to explain what she did.

'Jija Ji, I'm Payal. Khushi's cousin and best friend. She is an ambitious girl who has so many dreams for her future. She did not expect to get married so soon, thus you need to understand her to give your marriage a chance. I think you should not judge her so quickly because no one knows what she going on in her mind, but she is really good. If you need to know anything about her, I'm ready to help you. Thank you for listening to me. I wish you both the best.'

Arnav was wiser than his age, thus he did not want to conclude anything which might be wrong. He chose to be patient with her. After all this life is new to her, and she barely knows him. He knew that they need time to know each other as everything happened in a hurry. He waited for her to come out of the washroom, so that he can change his clothes.

After changing his sherwaani, he found Khushi sitting on the bed lost in thoughts. He turned off the air condition seeing her rubbing her arms. He lay on his side of the bed carefully not wanting to disturb her.

"Good night," he switched off his lamplight.
