Prologue
Devyani Raizada didn't mind that. In fact, she did not bat an eyelid before taking such a major decision. Time had taught her, and taught her well.
Losing her husband at an earlier age than most women, taking up the small family shop and striving to provide the best that she could..it had made her realise how it important it was to rely on no one but yourself.
Today, the rest of her small family came home in the truest sense of the words. Arnav and Anjali were brought in by Kailash Raizada, her son. For a moment, her eyes searched forher daughter Kalyani, before they moistened. She would never come home now.
She quickly wiped the lone traitorous tear that escaped the confines of her eyes, and smiled at her grandkids. Putting a hand on both their heads, she waited while Anjali bent as best she could, to take her blessings. Arnav, on the other hand, stood straight and unmoved.
Yes, her grandchildren were finally home. But what was home?

Devyani Raizada
Widow, in her early 50's. Loving yet strict, caring yet careful. She has faced a lot in life and at one point, provided for her kids single handedly.
Kailash Raizada
The oldest living male member of the Raizada family. In his mid 30's. Kind, hard working. Trusts people a bit too much. Loves his family.
Manorama Raizada
The first Raizada bahu. In her early 30's. Not educated. But has a brilliant sense of right and wrong. Knows when to keep quiet, and loves her family unconditionally. Has always liked shiny things, and Anjali is the shiniest of them all!
Akash Raizada
Tall, lanky, bespectacled. And all of 14. Face value? Umm.. less than 1. But his heart is pure Gold. The adopted brother and self-appointed guide of Arnav and Anjali.
Anjali Malik
Beautiful. Sweet. Intelligent. 22, and already down and out. Her biggest fault lies in caring too much, to the point of neglecting what she needs. Engaged to be married to a loving man. Biological parents are deceased.
Arnav Malik
Tall. Full of life. Mischievous. Silent. Brooding. Anything out of that and more. But above all, determined. Has accepted his 'fate' and has decided to do something about it. 14, too. As Akash keeps reminding him. Biological parents, deceased.
Shravan Joshi
Akash's best friend in school. From a well-to-do family. Wishes to go abroad to study. Takes an immediate liking to the latest new comer in their class who happens to be his best friend's cousin.
Ramdulari Sharma
Manorama's younger sister. Had a baby around the same time that Manorama gave birth to her son. Purely devotional. And purely loving. To the point that she would not think before pulling your cheeks. She does that to Manorama, or Rama as she fondly calls her, even today.
Nandkishore Sharma
One and only exclusive son of the afore mentioned, Ramdulari Sharma (this is his own description, don't laugh at me!)
Would like to go to the same school as A-kaaash. But mother dear has other plans.
