Untouched Yaadain:
Part 9:
Maan's annoying and the loudest alarm clock woke both of them up. Geet got up with an extremely painful headache along with a neck ache. Sleeping on the sofa was extremely uncomfortable. Geet closed her eyes in pain as if that will reduce the pain. Maan sat up, rubbed his eyes, and unknowingly his eyes fell on Geet. Her words started to play in his mind. Last night started to replay in his mind. He had never seen these kind of painful wounds before as Geet showed him. He always thought these kind of things happened only in movies. A villain trying to kill a girl who happens to be innocent. But how could this be real? Is she lying? No but the wounds can't be fake. They looked so real. Maan looked at Geet as if trying to find the answers to his questions from her face. But all he found was tiresome and pain. She still had her eyes closed and massaging her back.
"Yeh raat ko idher soi?" Maan whispered to himself. Well of course she's gonna sleep there when you have the bed. But kitna uncomfortable feel ker rahi ho gi yeh? Maan kept on looking at her as if she's a tv show. Meanwhile, Geet kept on blabbering to herself. First she would calm herself down but then will get angry at herself for not sleeping well. Her expressions changed rapidly. Maan still looking at her but now in awe. Trying to unfold more layers of Geet. Each layer had different story written on it. The more he explored her, the more confused he got. How can a girl have so much within her. Pain? Laughter? Scold herself? Get angry? And what not.
"Yeh kya cheez hai?" Maan again whispered to himself. But his alarm clock brought him back to his senses. It started to ring again as Maan didn't click the snooze button.
"Yeh mujhe kya ho gaya hai? Why am I behaving like this?"
Maan quickly got out of the bed trying to make his way to the bathroom in his sleepy attire. But Geet had to go to the bathroom too. Unknown to each others intentions, they both held on to the knob at the same time. Their hands collided with each other. Maan glared at her which made Geet take back her hand instantly.
"Main pehle jaon ga."
"Kyun? Yeh mera bhi to bathroom hai na. To main pehle jaon gi." Geet herself didn't know what overcame her. In return she got more of his glares.
"Geet!!"
"Daikhiye mera naam chillane se kuch nahi ho ga. Jab main aap ke saamne khadi huwi hoon to phir itna uncha kyun chila rahay ho. Main koi doosre kamre main nahin khadi huwi."
Geet moved a little back as Maan was coming towards her in a full Dusht Dhanav pose.
"Look Geet tum sirf 2 mahine ki mehmaan ho yahan pe. To phir ise apna kyun keh rahi ho?"
"Aray, to aap maante ho ke main mehmaan hoon. Good. Chalo mehmaan ki haisiyat se to phir mera haq zayada banta hai. Jab kisi ke ghar mehmaan jata hai na to uski zayada respect kertay hain. So haq bhi unka pehle hota hai. Isi liye main jaon gi pehle." Geet finished off with a huge grin on her face.
Maan now regrets calling her a mehmaan.
"Daikho Geet!!"
"Aray! Aap ainvayi tension le rahay ho. Time na waste kerain na."
"Acha to yeh problem tum solve kerro gi?"
"Solve to ker diya hai. Main pehle jaon gi. Done!"
Before Maan could even react to her words, she quickly opened the door, went in and locked it before Maan could protest.
"Geet! Darwaza kholo! Main aik aakhri mouka dai raha hoon. Bahar niklo! Warna mujhse bura koi nahi ho ga."
"Aap se bura hai bhi koi nahi!" Geet snapped back from inside.
Frustrated Maan just banged his fists against the door and rushes to the terrace to get some fresh air as he was about to explode. As for Geet, she really didn't wanted to do this. But she had to. She vowed to herself to make him irritated as much as she can for the next 2 months so he will not fall in love with her.Sure he had said that he won't fall in love but still. You always gotta be prepared.
After what seemed eternity for Maan, Geet finally came out. She was wearing yellow shalwar kameez with a matching bund joota. Her hair was all frizzy and wet. Maan's eyes dropped on Geet and were lost. Maybe forgot their way. Exploring every bit of her action and unknowingly smiling. Geet was too busy drying her hair with her towel that she didn't notice her husband is looking at her. She started cursing at the shower. As the water was too cold.
"Itna thanda paani! Uff! Yeh shower bhi na bilkul unki tarha hai. Apne mann ke malik. Jise control kerne ke liye kisi ke paas chaabi nahi hai. Uff main kya keroon."
She kept on blabbering to herself. Not even once realizing that her husband is staring at her vacantly. Not wanted to take off his eyes off of her, lost in his own world. After done cursing at the shower, she finally turned around to find Maan standing there. First was shocked to see him like this. He was smiling just a little. It made her a lil uncomfortable. Woh mujhe aise kyun daikh rahe hain? And smile? She had never seen him smile before. Seeing his smile made her smile. He looks so different. So apna apna. But soon the magic that was blooming in the air, hushed itself down. She came back to her senses but Maan seemed to be still lost in that magic. She turned around to see the bathroom door, which was open.
"Ae lo, pehle to jaane ki itni jaldi thi ke 1 second bhi intezaar nahi kiya ja sakta tha. Aur ab? Kaise araam se ghoor rahe hain. Main koi cartoon hoon jo mujhe ghoor rahe hain?"
Geet goes up to Maan, and throws her hands in the air in front of his eyes to make him come back to this world. No luck. He was still staring at her. Lost forever. He has taken off to a place where nobody would like to come back. Geet pinched him on his arm which made him wince in pain.
"What the hell? What was that for!?"
"Woh aap ghoor rahe the. So is liye maine aap ko pinch kiya."
Maan looked here and there as if had done a sin and is hiding it. Geet looked at him all flustered.
"Haan woh main.. Kuch soch raha tha."
"Acha soch rahe the. Ke bathroom mere paas chal ker aaye ga ya phir main bathroom ke paas chal ke jaon ga?"
Geet said sarcastically and couldn't help herself but to laugh at her own joke. Maan found it a little funny but controlled himself. Daring himself not to laugh at her any jokes. He had a stern face.
"Geet!!"
"Ab aap idher khade ho ker time kyun waste ker rahe ho? Jaiye bathroom khaali hai. Shower lai lain aur main nashta banati hoon."
Maan just bustles away without replying to her. Eager to get out of her sight. Geet makes a face and departs the room. But before she could fully leave, she recalled a memory, how her bhaabhi use to leave out clothes for Brij veerji to wear. Ab main unki wife hoon, chahe 2 mahine ke liye sahi but hoon to sahi. To mujhe yeh kerna chahiye. Agar Di ko pata chal gaya ke maine unke kapde nahin nikaale to meri aik dafa phir class ho gi. Aur un ko hamare baare main shak bhi ho jaaye ga. Nahin baba nahin! Nikaal hi daiti hoon. Geet goes up to his closet. It was very well organized. She was impressed. Mard ho ker itni organization. Aur tera closet Hoshiyarpur main poora ka poora jungle ka ghar lagta tha. Kuch seekh inse. Geet examines his clothes. Trying to find the perfect suit for him to wear.
"Inke paas to saare dull color. Gray ya phir black."
Her eyes then fell on a suit. It was light blue. She found a black vest with black pants for him. She placed those clothes on the bed all neatly. Also, she puts his watch, cellphone, and wallet next to his suit. Then she quickly polishes his shoes and places it next to the bed. She smiles at her work, proud of herself from doing so. And leaves giving one last look at the room. Maan comes out right after. In a hurry he didn't notice that Geet had already placed his stuff on the bed. He went up to his 15 years old closet and started looking for something to wear. He couldn't find the perfect shirt to wear. As Maan is known to be the perfectest man in this world. Everything must be just perfect and right. Even clothes. One slight mistake can damage tons. He couldn't find a perfect shirt to wear. Even though his wardrobe is filled with awesome and perfect clothes. But each shirt are suited for certain occasions. Frustrated Maan just turned around out of no where. He then spotted his shirt along with some other accessories placed perfectly on the bed. He walked over to his bed, stares at his stuff for almost a whole minute. Not even caring that he might be getting late for his endless work. "This must be Geet. She must've done it." Maan finally concluded.
"How many times I have told her not to interfere in my life. But no. These simple words somehow doesn't make their way to her ears." Maan picked up the shirt and pressed his hands against it tightly. Taking out his anger at the poor and motionless shirt.
"Geet!!!"
In one second Geet came running in. Not sure what she had done now?
"Ab maine kya kiya hai?" Annoyed Geet mumbled to herself. Why does he thinks that I am always the one behind his damages??
"What do you think of yourself??"
"Ji?"
"How many times did I tell you not to interfere in my life??"
"Hmm.. Jahan tak mujhe yaad padhta hai, aap ne 100 dafa to keh diya ho ga?" Geet said while thinking deeply. Not finding the sarcasm in his tone.
Frustrated Maan moved his steps towards Geet which made her wobble.
"Band kero apni bakwaas! I don't have all day to listen to your chitchat. Jab maine tumhay mana kiya hai ke meri zindagi main interfere kerne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai to phir kyun tum aik ordinary wife ki tarha meri cheezon ko haath laga rahi hai? Kisne kaha tha ke mere kapde nikaalo?? Tum bas 2 mahino ke liye meri wife ho. That's it! Then why are you making it hell difficult for yourself and me??!"
Geet had it enough. When she's trying to do something nice, she gels blamed and when she doesn't do anything she then gets blamed too!
"Kyun ke main aap ki wife hoon! Aap hi ne to mere se shaadi ki thi. Yaad nahi hai? Aur mujhe koi showk nahi hai ke aap ki cheezon ko haath lagaon. Bas mujhe Di ka khayal aa gaya. Woh kya sochain gi? Aur jahan tak mujhe yaad hai aapne kaha tha ke dunya ke liye hum aik happily married couple ki acting kerain gain. To jab Di daikhain gi ke maine aap ke liye kapde nikaale to unko shak nahi ho ga ke hamare beech main kya chal raha hai. Apna hi order bhool gaye Mr. Maan Singh Khurana?" After blurting out a huge speech at Maan, Geet stormed out of the room, back to the kitchen.
Maan just stared off the space. Still registering in her speech. A feeling of remorse lingered in his heart. Did he yell at her for no rhyme o reason? After all she is his wife let it be for 2 months, but still. She was just fulfilling her duty which he himself assigned. Maan quietly picked up his clothes and changed, feeling still guilty for what he had done.
After 5 minutes of scolding himself, he got ready and came down. Geet looked at him through the kitchen's window. Seeing him, she forgot that she was mad at him. He seemed so handsome. His hair tangled with each other. The wetness still lingering in his hair. His eyebrows came perfectly together in a half U shape. His lips curved perfectly. He was holding a file in his one hand and a phone on the other. She was shocked to see him wearing the same clothes as the ones she put out for him. The way he was walking made her smile. Actually everything of him made her smile. His shirt came perfectly together up to his waist along with his black tie. His vest was buttoned up to his stomach. She couldn't take off her eyes. She was chopping the onions as she was drooling at her 2 days old husband. Nakul looked at her and then at the direction she was staring at. He smiled and shook his head and left the place as he thought distracting her would not be fair. Maan came in the kitchen and her eyes decided to follow him. Geet totally forgot that she was chopping the onions. Her index finger and the knife collided with each other. And the magic ended. The pain made her wince. Maan looked at her in horror.
"Geet! Be careful!"
Without thinking Maan quickly took her hand in his. Slowly massaging her finger. Geet looked at him in awe. A man who was yelling at me just a second ago on a stupidest reason, is now taking care of her?
"Nakul jaldi first aid box le ker aao!"
Nakul came rushing in with a first aid box. Maan speedily took out a cotton ball. He placed it on top of her cut and pressed it just a little to prevent the blood from coming out. Maan then placed a band aid on her finger.
"Geet be careful in the future." And then his words reminded him that she was angry at him. Her eyebrows frowned at him. She instantly took her hand away from his hold. Like her hand was placed on an hot iron. This made Maan flinch.
"Bhot shukirya for concerning." Geet quickly went to the other shelf and pretended to do some sort of work. So he'll think she's busy and will walk away. Geet took a pan and just made some noises with a spoon, pretending to work. But Maan was not a fool. He knew that she was faking her work. Maybe because of the things he had said to her. He hated to be ignored. He closed his eyes, trying not to burst his anger out at her again after what he had done before.
"Geet listen. I didn't mean to..."
She banged the pan louder on the shelf not letting him finish his statement. Pretending that she's not interested in his conversation. But truth to be told, somewhere in her heart, she had forgiven him. She wanted to know what he wanted to say. But she had to control her feelings. Giving away too much of her feelings would put her at a spot where there would be only regrets and nothing else. And this was the last thing she wanted to do. Maan again closed his eyes.
"Ghalti ki hai ab bhugatna to padhay ga na." Maan mumbled to himself. Maan let go of a long sigh.
"Ok fine. I'll make it up to you. Ok?"
Now the sounds of the pan hushed down. Geet was now interested in his words.
"Fine." She said it while making a face. Like it's no big deal. Like what ever he had just said didn't bother her that much. About the part, "I'll make it up to you." But the truth was from inside she was jumping. He had finally realized his mistake and she can't let this golden opportunity to shoo away.
"Ok. Tonight I'll come home early and we can go out for dinner or something."
His statement was very hard for her to register it in her mind. He's asking her out to dinner? She couldn't help but turn around and stare at the mysterious man stood before her. Who is he? The man who doesn't care about others feelings is now rectifying for what he had done? The more she thinks she knows him well, he ends up surprising her more. Geet looked at him satisfied. She unknowingly smiled which was not gone missed by Maan. Her smile meant that she accepts his offer. But he knew he shouldn't have asked her for dinner. That's too much. But now when she is finally smiling, he can't back off. Her smile made his heart relax.
"Good. Be ready at 8 sharp. Agar tum late huwi then it'll be all your fault."
Geet was so glad that she will finally get to go out with him for the first time. But soon some other feeling took over her dream. Her smile vanished in just matter of seconds.
What am I doing? Main nahi ja sakti! No no no! She has to say no. No matter how bitter it's gonna be. She can't do this to him. And to herself too. This no is for their own benefit. Right when Geet was about to protest Nayantara walked in and made the situation worse for Geet.
"That's great Maan. Tum aur Geet jao bahar, enjoy kero while I stay at home and deal with some serious work." Geet faked a smile.
Nice timing Di. Geet thought to herself.
"Di, aap bhi chalo na." Maan offered just to be nice. But somewhere in his heart he wanted to go alone with her. And he hated himself for even desiring something like this.
"No no Maan main kesai ja sakti hoon? You guys enjoy. Aur waise bhi I have some other work that needs to be taken care of." Nayantara faked a smile.
"Ok Di, as you wish." Nayantara and Maan chit chatted for a little while, while Geet stood in the corner like a total outsider. Well she is an outsider. She doesn't know anything about them two except the fact that neither of them two likes her. She stood like a statue, afraid if she moved just a little, they will know her presence. Well it seems like they have forgotten that she was standing there. Which is good for her. Nayantara and Maan walked out of the kitchen, while talking about business stocks of Khurana Constructions of course. Geet then let out a sigh. It felt like she had stopped breathing.
"Oh Geet, breakfast laga dijiye." Nayantara ordered her from the dining room. Geet sighed once more before getting everything together and head out to the dining room.
"...It'll be the best for Khurana Constructions." Nayantara was advising something to Maan.
"Di, how can I say no to you." Maan smiled at her which made Geet stare at him vacantly. She wasn't looking where she was going. She almost bumped into the table when Maan holler at Geet.
"Geet watch where you're going!" Geet balanced herself and faked a smile at Maan and Nayantara. Nayantara looked at her with disgust. Her long brown right eyebrow lit up. Shooting her some stares. Geet quietly placed down the breakfast ignoring eye contacts. Especially with Maan. Geet was not looking at him, but however, Maan couldn't help himself but to examine her. She was such an interesting piece. Unfolding more about her. Nayantara was talking to him, but he wasn't listening. He knew she was talking but he couldn't help himself but to stare at her. An unknown smile lit his face. Nayantara looked at him, shocked. She has never seen her brother smile before. His smile was just like a treasure, enchanting yet impossible to find. Nayantara followed his gaze and found out that her brother is falling for his wife. Which is a good thing for her.
Geet recollected her footsteps back to the kitchen. Eager to get out of their eyesight. And the magic stopped itself from blooming. Maan came back to his senses realizing that he had done a stupidest thing, staring at a girl and smiling? This is not him. What happened to the old Maan Singh Khurana? Where did he get lost in the field? He was fighting with in himself. Sure he didn't show it to anyone but from inside it's like World War 3 for him. Keeping his distance away was easy because she never came near him and he never went near her but whenever she comes before him, it's like boom, everything around him is gone except for her. It's like his world is only revolved around her. What's going on with me? Unable to concentrate during the breakfast. He excused himself and left for office. Geet saw him leaving the house in such a hurry. She was worried about his breakfast. How can someone work with their empty tummy? Agar unhon ne nashta nahin kiya to phir woh bimaar bhi ho sakte hain? But she vowed to herself that she won't bother him by calling him nor paying a visit to him. He probably had ate something in the office. Then she shouldn't be worried. Right? Geet was sick and tired of hearing her own thoughts. She wanted to distract herself. She cleaned the whole house just because of her thoughts. The more she gets herself busy, the best.
However, for Maan. He couldn't figure out what attracted him the most about Geet. Her dazzling brown eyes? Or her long brown and frizzy hair? There are so many other girls in this world who are beautiful then why her? It's not like he checks out other girls. He though had isolated himself from doing that so. They are nothing but useless distractions. They keep any other man from succeeding. And this is the last thing he wanted in this world, distraction. Maan sat in his cabin pretending to work on a file, ignoring the whispers and the gossips outside his cabin. They were about him he figured. But it didn't matter to him. Nothing does except for his Di and his work. And nothing else should interest him. Right? Then why can't he get these simple words to be attached in his brain. He tried escaping from Geet's thoughts by reading a boring file about a some client he assumed. But no help. He probably read one page twice or thrice because he couldn't keep up. In the mid way he was again distracted by Geet's thoughts. Her eyes, her laugh, though she didn't laugh much in front of him. But when she did, oh man, that was the beautiful sight he had ever seen. Irritated by his thoughts, Maan banged his fists on the table, throwing the file on the nearby wall.
"What the hell is wrong with you man?! Concentrate! Concentrate! She's not the only thing in this world that concerns you." After realizing what he had said, he corrected himself.
"No she doesn't concern you at all! She shouldn't be on your mind. You don't care about her and that's final!" He wished the 2 months contract to get over soon. Very soon. So he doesn't have to deal with her and his mind.
Sasha came in his cabin without knocking.
"MK. Aapne clients ki bhaiji huwi file padh li." Maan looked up at her. Not sure what she's asking about.
"What? Ah. Haan. Haan maine padh li. Bhot hi fascinating file thi." Sasha sensed a change in his behavior. Confusion. Maan had never been confused. He's after all known by his perfection. Then how all of the sudden he's confused. He's always sure about things.
"Oh. Ok MK. What was the most fascinating thing in the file that you found?"
"The dazzling brown eyes and the long brown and frizzy hair." Maan blurted out without even giving a thought. Sasha was hell confused now. She repeated his words in her mind slowly trying to figure out what does that mean. Maan looked at her and realized what he had just said. He made a mental note to himself that he's gonna slap - no punch himself for what he had just said.
"Mera matlab hai, the words. Their words seem very strong and they are very nice." Maan quickly covered up with an excuse. Sasha gave him a confused smile.
"Right MK. Emm.. the meeting starts in 10 minutes. I hope you are ready."
Yeah I hope too. Maan thought. Sasha left to deal with some other stuff. Maan rested his head on the chair and closed his eyes. Taking time out from this whole chaos. He scratched his temple and the bridge of his nose. Even though the AC was on full mode but still he was sweating.
"Welcome to this new life Maan Singh Khurana." A voice in his head said. He took off his tie, unbuttoned his shirt's top three buttons. He needs air. Fresh air. He started thinking about their dinner tonight.
Why did I offer dinner to her? He scolded at himself. He shouldn't have. Spending more time will be a disaster. But now I can't back off especially when Di said to go. Nice going Maan. Man, where are you? The old you? The arrogant you? This Maan is weak and confused. Doesn't know how to make decisions firmly. But you did. 10 minutes were over and he had to get back to his meeting. He just hoped Geet thoughts sit aside for at least a lil while so he can get through the meeting without blurting out something stupid.
As for Geet, she stayed in her room the rest of the day. Scolding herself for admiring Maan.
"Geet tu kaise bhool sakti hai. Tere saath woh rahain gain to bas unko dukh hi mile ga." A tear escaped from Geet's eyes and flooded down through her cheek. But where ever she goes, everything reminded her of him. She goes to the kitchen, the morning starts replaying in her mind. How he took care of her wound. And when she stands on the stairwell, she reminded herself of how he stepped down these stairwells while looking handsome. The worse part was going to her own room. Every single item in the room reminded her of him. The bed, the table, the bathroom door, the terrace, the sofa and what not. She closed her eyes, irritated by herself.
Geet tu pagal ho gayi hai. Geet declared to herself. There was no way she could set Maan's thoughts aside and start thinking of something else. How the heck will she spend the night with him at some restaurant? She can't back out now. Then an idea hit her.
"Theek hai main aap ke saath jaon gi, but restaurant meri marzi ka ho ga. That way, hum jaldi bhi nikal aayen gain." She patted herself for such a brilliant idea. But is she still ready to go with him? Or is he ready to go with her?
Hope you all liked it. Do comment and like this post. :) ''BTW if you want any PMs from me, so please do add me to your buddy list. Thanks! :) .Sara
