CHAPTER 14: GUESS WHO?

"two days? Two days? Why the hell didn't you tell me? what were you waiting for?" Khushi flinched hearing his anger filled voice, "I, i...I am sorry. I didn't want..."

"want what? Khushi, when were you going to tell me about the note and the phone call? Hadn't I come across that note accidently, you would have never told me"

"I wanted to tell you but I thought you would be tensed. So..." Khushi lowered her eyes in remorse. Arnav shook his head, "tensed? You thought I would be tensed if you told me? then what am I now?"

"Arnav, i didn't mean that. I was just waiting for right time. I am.."

"right time? And don't say sorry. Khushi, for gods sake, stop being super woman thinking you can handle everything alone. The last time you did, we lost Sneha." Khushi froze hearing his words while Arnav realised the meaning of his words.

Tears rolled down her cheeks," you still think that, don't you? (khushi laughed humourlessly) how can I be a fool to believe that we can forget our past and move on. We can never do that. And you are right. We lost her. It was my fault. I killed her. I am the culprit here." Khushi murmured walking back, "my fault. Its my fault" she rubbed her tears with the back of her palm and ran.

"no, wait. Khushi? I didn't mean that. Khushi, I am sorry" but she was already running towards her room. Arnav closed his eyes in pain," what the hell did I just do"

Khushi sat in her room with Sneha's picture with unending tears in her eyes," I am sorry baby. Its my fault. Its because of me that you are not with me anymore. Please, please forgive your mother." Arnav who had just entered the room heard her last set of words. He felt guilty. He knew he shouldn't have said that. He did the same mistake. Again.

He walked and sat next to her. He took the picture from her hand and kissed it placing it back to its original place. He took her hand in his and kissed it," I am sorry, Khushi. I didn't mean that. it was not your fault. Finally, I am realising, it was no ones fault. The only person who is at fault is that person who did this horrendous work and I am going to find it out."

"no, no, you are right. I killed her. If I had told you about kidnapping, may be Sneha would have been alive." She whispered. Arnav shook his head," like I said, it is not your fault. I am sorry. I didn't mean what I said earlier. But it hurts me when you hide things from me."

"you...do you really mean it this time?"

"yes. I didn't mean what I said earlier."

"but you just said you mean it"

"yes, I meant I mean it about that I didn't mean earlier. Oh hell, khushi. stop confusing me" khushi burst out laughing. She crushed herself against his chest, " Arnav, I am sorry. I didn't mean to hide it. but I was afraid. I am still afraid. I have lost my baby. I don't want to lose you." Arnav kissed her hair," you wont, Khushi. I am going to find out who this person is. He has to pay. He will be punished for snatching our baby from us, for making you cry so much, for everything he did. I promise, Khushi. I promise"

"I am sorry, Arnav"

"its fine, Khushi. promise me you will never hide anything from me?"

"I promise, Arnav. I am sorry"

...

Few hours later

Khushi sat in her living area along with Arnav, Karan and Maya. Maya had her arms around Khushi, " Khushi, stop fretting so much. Arnav will be fine. Nothing will happen to him"

"what did commissioner uncle say? Is he willing to help us?" Arnav asked. Karan smiled," obviously, he will help. Afterall, he does owe something to his nephew. Don't worry, I have talked to him. he would be here anytime" right at that moment, the door bell rang. "I think he is here" Arnav said while getting up to open the door

"you must be Vardhan uncle?"

The old man in his mid forties smiled," yes, that is me. and you must be Arnav? I have heard a lot about you from my nephew"

"yes, please come in"

Its been 30 minutes since vardhan sat in the living area hearing to the whole story about Sneha, the note, everything. Arnav sighed," so this is it uncle."

"what did the police say about Sneha's case?" Vardhan asked. Arnav eyes grew sad," they closed the case long time back because they got nothing. The phone call about ransom was from a private number which couldn't be traced. Khushi never saw their face. Police found nothing. So they closed the case saying that it was a case of kidnapping. Uncle, please help. After we lost sneha, Khushi and I drifted apart. We had just got back together leaving our bitter past and now this, suddenly, out of the blue when finally things were getting back to normal in our life, we were finally happy after two years and..."

"wait? Did you say you were facing problems in your marital life?" Vardhan asked

"yes"

"and suddenly, out of the blue, Khushi gets threat that your life is in danger when you two were together?"

"yes"

Vardhan went deep in his thoughts. "what is it, uncle?" Arnav asked.

"I don't know. I am not sure. i am trying to join some dots. I have seen lots of kidnapping cases. Its true that in such cases, we are not always successful is saving the victims but it only happens in extreme cases. Most of the time, the kidnappers set the victim free after getting their ransom and they are killed only when something goes wrong. By extreme I meant this. but your case? Its different. Something is not fitting right"

"what does that mean?"

"If my guess is right, this wasn't some normal kidnapping for ransom. It is beyond that. this is personal."

"I don't understand" Arnav said

"But I guess I do. The person who is behind all this is very close to you because he knows what happened in your life. He wanted some sort of revenge from you. He kidnapped sneha. He killed her. you two drifted apart. That means you both were unhappy. And when finally, you both reconciled your marriage, he comes back threatening Khushi. but this is just a theory. I can be wrong too. do you have any enemies? Anywhere? In your professional life? Or may be personal?"

Arnav scratched his head," not that I can think of any"

"think Arnav. Khushi? if you have any?" Vardhan asked

"I don't think so." She said.

"who all knew about all this completely? That includes about your marriage too" Vardhan asked

" apart from Arnav and me, it was Maya, Karan, my parents and my doctor" Khushi said

"anybody else?"

"Khushi, think hard if you ever said anything to anyone" Maya said

And then it dawned on Arnav, "Aditya. It is Aditya"

"Arnav! Aditya would never do that. he is our friend" Khushi said. Arnav shook his head," no, I think its him."

"why do you feel so?" karan asked

"I just have a feeling"

Vardhan nodded," I am sure you know something. what is it?"

Arnav sighed," Aditya, always liked Khushi, from the time of our college days. But she was with me. we got married. But he left town. And then he came back suddenly, when were going through rough patch. He planted the seed of divorce in her mind. but court gave us 7 months. After 7 months, he was pretty sure that Khushi would leave and he proposed her. but she turned him down"

"you never told me that, Khushi" Maya exclaimed. Khushi shrugged," because this was not important"

"then what?" Vardhan asked

"then he left. But now suddenly this threatening note and phone call, it has to be him."

"well, we cant say much now. but I will look into his background. I am appointing two of my best officers here, just in case and don't worry, they will be in informal clothes. We don't want whoever this is person is to get alert."

Suddenly, Khushi's phone rang. She looked at the screen and saw it read as private number. She got scared," Arnav, its him"

"put on loudspeaker"

Khushi did as she was instructed. Arnav came next to Khushi and slid his arms around her. he eyed her to take the call," hel...hello"

"Khushi! remember me?"

"who are you?"

"lets not waste time on introductions. I warned you not to inform anyone but you not only involved Arnav but also the commissioner. Tch tch. You shouldn't have done that"

"I didn't..i didn't inform anyone"

"tch. Tch. Lying? Are we?"

"I am not lying!" Khushi yelled

"volume, Khushi. volume."

"I am..am sorry but i am not lying."

The voice gave a terrorizing laugh," still lying? I know exactly what is going on there. I have my eyes on you. Now wait and watch. You are going to lose everything soon. I promise you that. Arnav Singh Raizada is going to die" he laughed again and before Khushi could speak a word, the phone was cut.

One more update and then epilogue.

Alright, i need to know something. My usual readers know i have long list of pending works. and it will be a wonder when i complete this 😆 so, all i need to ask is which should i update? i will give you two choices. and the ones with the majority votes will be updated regularly, like you had fate updates 😳 yes, REGULARLY, once this ends!!
