Chapter 40

Chapter 40
“Where did you disappear off you, girlfriend?” Armaan swung his arm around Geet’s shoulder when she joined them outside with Naintara.
“I had to take a call” she lied. Naintara smirked and slinked away to Dev’s side. Before he asked another question, the fireworks display started.
Everyone watched in awe. Captivated by the bright shooting lights bursting into different colours. Geet grinned looking around. She was happy seeing the smiles and laughter from the people she now called family.
Her eyes locked with Maan’s as he stood across the other side next to dadima.
He was watching her.
Her cheeks heated recollecting their kiss and his possessiveness. She looked away shyly and tried to concentrate on whatever her friends were discussing.
Maan stared at Geet from across the room, seeing her heated cheeks he was taken back to the room where he had kissed her. Possessively. He gritted his teeth seeing Armaan hanging off Geet as they joked around. He considered closing the distance and pulling her away from Armaan when he remembered that Geet did not want anyone knowing about their relationship.
Relationship. Is that what they share? He pondered. He rubbed a hand through his hair before he turned away and walked away from the festivities. Maan disappeared into the bedroom and sat on the bed. He hadn’t bothered with switching on the lights. He thought of his past and his present. He was torn in between two choices.

“What?” Maan questioned looking taken aback.
Sameera sobbed and slumped onto the bed covering her face. “Oh God! Maan” she cried. “What are we going to do?”
Maan’s eyes wandered in a panic before he crouched down. “Sam, calm down… please”.
“How can I? I’m pregnant, Maan. My parents are going to kill me”.
He pinched the bridge of his nose. His father and dadima were going to do the same to him as well, he thought. He brushed a hand through his hair and started pacing the room.
“Oh…” Sameera whimpered as she thought of her parent’s punishment. “They’re going to disown me” she cried.
“Sam…” he sat down beside her. “Stop crying, please. It wasn’t just you, it was us. We decided to live together” he circled his arm around her shoulder.
“We’re just kids, Maan. How are we going to bring a baby into this world?” she sobbed burrowing her face into his chest.
He didn’t know the answer, so he didn’t provide one. Instead, he held her and pressed a kiss to her head rocking her back and forth.
~~~
Sameera gasped and cried when her father struck Maan. “Please, dad…”
“No!” he yelled and turned around facing her. “What were you thinking? Is this what I sent you to university for? To become a whore”.
“That’s enough!” Maan stepped forward blocking her father from pouncing on her. “We made a mistake… but… But I’m here for her”.
“You’re not going anywhere near her” he stabbed Maan in the chest with his finger. “You stay away from her”.
“I am not going to shirk away from Sameera or my baby” Maan countered angrily. He tensed when he saw her father swinging his arm back ready to deliver another strike when Sameera pulled him back shaking her head and cried.
“Please, dad… I love him”.
“He only used you”
“I love her, sir” Maan intervened vehemently. “I love your daughter. She means a lot to me and I never used her. I just loved her” he stated and looked at Sameera.
Tears spilled down her cheeks as she looked at him. “Maan…” she whispered.
He nodded. “I’m going to do the right thing” he said and turned to her father. “I’m going to marry her”.
~~~
“Have you managed to tell your papa and dadima?” Sameera questioned watching her husband undress and change for bed.
“Papa isn’t feeling well, and I don’t want to put this shocking burden on them” he replied climbing into the bed and placed his hands on her stomach. She smiled as he rubbed and pressed a kiss to her abdomen.
“Your family are going to be very hurt” she whispered brushing her fingers through his hair.
“Hmm” he closed his eyes enjoying the feel of her fingers through his hair. “I’ll tell them soon as papa gets better. Hopefully they can move past it just like your parents did after their initial anger period” he replied opening his eyes and smiled up at her. “You look beautiful” he said pushing her curl behind her ear and sat up.
Sameera laughed as he lifted her onto his lap and pressed a hard kiss to her lips.
~~~
“Sameera” Maan knocked on the door.
Silence greeted him once again. He pushed open the door and found her curled up in their bed hugging the pillow. Tears stained her cheeks. He walked around and sat on the edge watching her. He exhaled heavily and closed his eyes. He leaned down pressing a kiss to her head and mourned for the loss of his love and their child.
Sameera had miscarried into the beginning of the fourth month of her pregnancy which affected her immensely. He watched as she withdrew from him and her family. He had only her and couldn’t even turn to his family in his time of need. He hadn’t managed to tell anyone as his father’s condition had declined. Maan had visited for 3 weeks and waited until his father was getting a little better before he returned to the UK for his final exams.
He was snapped out of his thoughts when Sameera stirred. She opened her eyes and looked at him before she turned away closing her eyes once again. She just wanted to sleep and ignore the pain that was suffocating her.
“Sam, you need to eat” Maan said.
“I’m not hungry” she muttered squeezing her eyes closed.
“You can’t continue like this”.
“Leave me alone, Maan” she whispered.
He sighed and stood walking out of the bedroom.
~~~
“Happy anniversary” Maan wished holding out the flowers for his wife.
Sameera chuckled softly taking the flowers from him and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Happy anniversary” she responded pressing a kiss to his lips.
Maan grinned happily. His old Sameera had returned to him a couple of months ago. She had pulled herself together after she mourned for their loss. She then focused on finding a job seeing as they’d now finished university and received their respective degrees. Sameera had bagged a job at the local restaurant as a waitress for now until she found a job to her liking.
“I’ve got a present” she laced their fingers together pulling him to their bedroom. Maan smiled puzzled as she handed him a gift bag.
“When did you go out?” he inquired as he had been home most of the time.
“I didn’t have to go out to get this present” she grinned.
Maan smiled and removed the issue paper before he pulled out the gift. He blinked in surprise and looked at her for confirmation. “You’re pregnant?”
“Yeah” she nodded and hugged him tightly. “Our baby is coming back to us, Maan” she gushed and looked up at him with tears in her eyes.
Maan nodded and pressed a kiss to her head.

“I want a divorce, Maan” Sameera cried. “I can’t do this anymore”.
“Sam… C’mon you don’t mean that”.
“I do” she sobbed nodding her head. “I… I just want a divorce. Give me a divorce”.
Maan tried to step forward. “You’re just hurting again, we’ll get over this” he promised.
“How? I’ve had 3 miscarriages now. 3!” she screamed. “I can’t even be your wife”.
“Sameera, don’t say that”.
“No! I don’t want this. We’re just fighting all the time now” she stopped him from coming closer. “All we do is yell at each other. You keep asking me to move on, but I can’t. All I wanted was our baby” she sobbed.
“Sameera…” he tried to reason.
“I’ve called my papa to come pick me up” she cut him shaking her head.
Maan looked at her shocked and confused. “What?”
“I mean it… I want a divorce, Maan. I’m leaving”.
~~~
Maan stood looking around the property he had shared with his wife, no, his ex-wife. He cried silently for the happy memories with her. He couldn’t convince her to change her decision. Their separation might the route for her to recover the loss of their babies. That was the only solace he found that it would help her recover mentally and physically. The miscarriages had uprooted everything for her. He couldn’t even turn to anyone to seek his own solace and unburden the hurt on his heart. He couldn’t unburden the pain of his own losses. The loss of his best friend, love, and wife. The loss of his babies. Maan was snapped out of his thoughts when he received the dreaded call from his dadima.
His father didn’t have long to live, and he was needed back home.
Maan organised for his things to be sent to India as he packed to leave. He uprooted his life in the UK and walked out of the house. He locked up the house a final time closing the memories of his life here. He returned to India to spend time with his father in his final weeks and had soon locked away the memories and didn’t utter Sameera Agarwal to anyone.
Geet pushed open the door and frowned. She was confused for a second seeing Maan sat in the dark and wondered where he was lost. He hadn’t even acknowledged her or looked in her direction. She reached across switching on the light and that seemed to bring him out of his thoughts. He blinked and shook away the memories.
“Geet…” he murmured and stood up.
She smiled coyly. “I didn’t come for a second kiss” she said.
He smiled faintly and chuckled.
“Though I don’t mind if you give me another one” she added.
Maan raised his brows at her. “And what would your boyfriend, Armaan say?” he stepped forward closing the distance.
“I’ll make it up to him” she winked teasingly. “I’m sure I can think of ways to win him”.
“Don’t” Maan had her backed up against the wall closing his arms around her.
“Don’t, what?” she inquired.
“I don’t want to think of you both together” he growled pressing his forehead to hers.
“Why? You pushed me away to him”.
Maan closed his eyes. “Geet… I…” he stopped when his phone rang. He withdrew pulling his phone out and swallowed seeing Sameera’s name.
Geet raised her brows questioningly when he only glanced briefly at the screen before he cut the call and placed his phone into his pocket once again. “Who is it?” she asked.
“No one” he answered cupping her shoulder. “Are you going to break off with Armaan?” he questioned.
“Why would I do that? We’re getting divorced soon and I very much like him”.
“That’s why you’re here letting me kiss you?”
“Are you kissing me?” she questioned in confusion. “I don’t think so”.
“Geet, you know what I mean”.
“Do I?”
“I told you before, you’re mine. Not Armaan’s” he pulled her close and narrowed his eyes at her. “Whenever he touched you, I wanted to rip his arm and pull you away from them all” he admitted.
Geet placed her hands on his chest, she smiled softly before she pushed Maan back. “We’re separating soon, Mr Khurana. I think its wrong of me to come to you when I have my boyfriend” she stated and whisked away from the room before Maan had a chance to respond. He gritted his teeth and glared at her retreating form.
Well done, Geet she praised herself inwardly. It was a good thing I resisted now she thought. Geet had pulled away before giving in to him. She had done that the first time and had gotten hurt. She was going to have her husband want her. Desperately and irrevocably before she submits to him. It was certainly fun making him jealous and pulling out the possessive streak in him which she had not witnessed until now.
She smiled to herself and skipped happily wondering when the day would come when Maan wanted her, and only her. When he was no longer confused and confident in his feelings for her and wanting to give them a chance. The pull and push at this time will certainly be all worth it when he confesses that he has fallen in love with her. She needed that. She needed to hear that he loved her before she considers giving them a chance. Before that, she couldn’t risk getting hurt all over again and pining for his attention. She wasn’t going to go back to that girl who pined for a relationship and companionship for the last year.
