Chapter 23
Sasha watched Maan even more closely as he worked. Their work routine continued as normal, he remained undeterred and focused on his work and aloof to her feelings once again. Geet and Maanâs routine was the same. Theyâd ride to work together, Maan had Sandeep stop a street away to drop Geet off and sheâd walk the remaining way so there would be no speculations about them. Geet had become friends with Adi and Viren. They had also introduced Pinky, Piyush and Neha to her and quickly became work friends. Maan did manage to grab Geet once every few days for lunch before heâd be off to visit a site then drop her off a street away. When they didnât go lunch together, sheâd spent in the canteen with her new work friends.
It was another typical day at the office, Geetâs nose was burrowed in the file Adi had handed to her to work on when she received an incoming text. She pulled up her phone and smiled seeing it was a notification from her âSaruâ. Maan didnât know but she had named him just that on her phone.
Saru: Are you free to go to lunch?
Geet: Where we going?
Saru: In my office. Dadima sent lunch today.
Geet: Thanks but no thanks. I am not going to be having lunch with you in the office
Saru: Why?
Geet: Because I am not stupid
Maan frowned at the response and decided to dial her number. âWhat does that even mean?â he asked as soon as she said hello.
Geet glanced at Viren who was busy on his laptop and seemed to minding his business. âI hate when reports start circulating aroundâ she responded.
âWhat?â he said sounding confused.
âYou know how journalists are, circulating rumours. This one would spread like wild fireâ she continued as if he hadnât said anything.
âSomeone in the office with you?â he asked suddenly understanding.
âYesâ she replied. âSo, you know, itâs dangerous right going out in the public with vulturesâ eyes on these celebs.â
âI seeâ Maan responded with a smile. âDadima sent food for us both. What do you suggest I do with your half?â
âItâs up to youâ.
âHow about I have Sandeep drive us somewhere close by?â
âWhat do you suggest?â she inquired.
âThat I should just announce weâre married so we can stop sneaking aroundâ he answered teasingly.
âThat isn't funnyâ she rolled her eyes and smiled when Viren glanced over at her with a smile. âAnyway, Iâm going back to work so Iâll speak to your later Manviâ.
âManvi?â
âYeah, Manviâ
âYouâre giving me a girlâs name?â he snapped.
âYes, Manvi. Iâll speak to you later, baba. Okay. Byeâ she cut the call and placed her phone down.
âSo, whoâs Manvi?â Viren asked curiously.
âJust a friendâ she smiled.
âIs she single?â
Geet chuckled. âNo, sheâs married, and I donât think youâre her typeâ she winked and picked up her phone seeing a text coming through.
Saru: Iâm not happy at all with you calling me Manvi!
Geet: Ok
Saru: Ok? Just ok?
Geet: Yes. Ok. I got your point.
Maan shook his head and looked at the containers that Dadima had sent with Sandeep with lunch for himself and Geet in.
He separated some food for himself then grabbed the remaining containers and walked out. He walked across to Geetâs office and opened the door gritting his teeth together when he noticed not only was Viren in the office, Sasha and Adi were here as well.
Shit he cursed.
âMK?â Sasha looked at him confused.
Maan ignored her and stalked across to Geetâs table. âMs Vihaan. Do I look like a bus boy to you?â
âSir?â Geet looked at him confused and then looked at Adi and Viren. âIâm sorry, sir. But did I do something wrong?â
âYour family seems to think Iâm your bus boyâ he countered narrowing his eyes. âYour lunch!â he placed the containers onto her table. âNext time have it delivered to your office, not mine!â
Geet blinked in surprise and frowned when he turned around and stalked out slamming the door behind him.
âWhat was that, Geet?â Sasha approached her desk. âDo you realise who MK is?â
âUm⌠MaâamâŚâ she mumbled still confused and trying to piece together what the hell just happened in the space of a few minutes. As it slowly dawned on her, Geetâs confusion morphed into annoyance. She didnât even hear half of the lecture that Sasha was spewing out.
âIâm sorry Maâamâ she cut her off quickly. âIt wonât happen again. Iâll make sure my stupid saru family knowâ she cursed.
Sasha shook her head and looked at Adi. âThis is why I should have been the one interviewing!â she snapped then walked out of the room.
âIgnore them, Geetâ Viren told her gently. âTheyâre just jealous that their family didnât care enough to send them foodâ.
Geet smiled uncomfortably and nodded. She grabbed her phone and fired off a text.
Geet: You are such a Saru!
Saru: I thought theyâd have gone to lunch by now. Sorry.
Geet: Go to hell with your sorry! Your work wife just blasted me on top of you embarrassing me!
Saru: I had to think on the spot
Geet: That is not thinking. That is you being a Saru!
Saru: Can you stop calling me Saru?
Geet: No, you Saru!
Saru: Jungli
Geet: I am so mad at you right now.
Saru: I did apologise. What else can I do? I only came to give you food so I was doing a good deed actually.
Geet: You, Saru! Iâll show you good deed when I shove my jhoota up your ass
Saru: Is this how one speaks to their husband?
Geet: I could ask you the same. Do all saru husbands bark at their wives in front of others?
Saru: Geet, youâve been insulting and calling me all sorts of names. Iâve yet to say anything back.
Geet: Accha ji! Scroll up to your jungli comment, Saru!
Saru: I feel like Iâm just wasting my time here.
Geet: You are! Donât talk to me anymore.
Saru: Ok
Geet scowled and put her phone away.
âGeet, are you ok?â Adi asked seeing her annoyed.
âYeah, Iâm fineâ she answered.
âWhy donât you both go on lunch now?â Adi suggested looking between them. âYour family also sent you food lovingly so you eat whilst its still warmâ.
âThanks, Adiâ Geet smiled appreciatively. âIâm going to eat in here, if thatâs ok?â
âYeah, sureâ he nodded. âIâm going out with Piyush and Neha for lunch if you want to join?â he informed.
âIâll joinâ Viren said. âI havenât got my lunch with me so Iâm buying. Are you going to be okay alone?â he looked at Geet.
âYeah, yeah. You go onâ she waved off with a smile. Once sheâd put her laptop aside, she opened up the containers and dug into her home cooked food dadima had sent. Whilst she appreciated the food, she did curse Maan and Sasha.
Geet had arrived home at her usual time whilst Maan remained in the office until late. It was around 10pm, when sheâd got ready for bed and tucked in for the night with a book in her hand when Maan had returned. He glanced at her and she looked away focusing on her book.
Maan didnât say anything, he grabbed a towel with a change of clothes and went into the washroom to shower. After heâd showered and changed, he walked out rubbing his hair and looked over at Geet who was trying to ignore him.
He closed the distance sitting on the edge on her side and looked down at her. âAre you still upset?â he asked leaning forward.
Geet glanced at him. âYesâ she answered then returned her eyes to her book.
Maan plucked it out of her hands and placed it on the nightstand.
âWhat are you doing?â she narrowed her eyes before widening them as he placed his hands on either side of her. His hand on the pillow near her head and closing in on her.
Geet sucked in a deep breath trying to not to inhale his intoxicating smell. He smelled of cologne, cleanliness and like salt water. She turned her head to the other side.
He smiled and cupped her chin to turn her to face him.
âKya hai, Saru?â
âI said, sorry na?â
âThat doesnât mean anythingâ she folded her arms crossly pushing her breasts up unknowingly. The v of her kurta showed off more cleavage than she intended. Maanâs eyes dropped and lingered for a second before he looked away and swallowed hard.
She quickly unfolded them and tried pulling the blanket to her neck. But it was trapped with one of his hand on the blanket.
âMaan⌠kya chahiye aapko?â she murmured keeping her eyes averted.
âForgive meâ he whispered.
She looked at him from the corner of her eyes and sighed. âFineâ.
He smiled leaning forward and pressed a kiss to the corner of her eye. She closed them for a moment savouring in the warmth press of his lips.
She opened them as he pulled back putting some distance but not really moving. Their eyes locked together and he leaned down as she lifted her hand sliding her fingers across his nape then through his damp hair.
Maan lowered his head and pecked her lips gently at first, he nibbled before brushing his tongue across the seam of her closed lips. Geet parted and touched her tongue to his tentatively before opening her mouth giving him access to her. He deepened the kiss, curling his tongue around hers, tugging and wrangling. His hands shifted, he stroked her side, gently pulled her hands away from his hair then entwined their fingers together. He pressed their joined hands into the pillow squeezing her hands. Geet pinched her eyes closed as they pulled away trying to catch their breath. His forehead pressed against hers. Their chests going up and down as they breathed heavily.
