Chapter 20
Chapter 20
The following morning, Geet and Maan once again checked in on dadima ensuring that she was recovering and resting. They then headed downstairs to have breakfast together with Naintara and Dev.
“Geet, have you got any plans tonight?” Naintara inquired as she poured Dev a cup of coffee and handed it to him.
“Not really” she shook her head looking at her curiously. “Why?”
“Some of my friends are getting together for some drinks and dinner, you’ve not really gone exploring so do you want to join us?” she asked.
“Drinks?” Geet looked at her stumped.
“You don’t have to obviously drink with us. You can have soft drinks” she laughed.
“Um…” she looked uncertain.
“Bhabhi, it will be good to go out” Dev suggested encouragingly. “How about me and bhai join you?” he added looking at Naintara.
“Dev, you always spoil my night out with my friends”.
“Your night out entails guys fawning and flirting with you including buying you ladies drinks” he countered.
Naintara rolled her eyes shaking her head giving Geet a look as if she were saying, men are impossible.
“Maybe another time for dinner” Geet responded slowly.
“Okay, fine. We’ll go out this weekend. All of us” Naintara agreed deciding not to push Geet. “Even you veerji” she added looking at Maan.
“Okay, I’ll sort something out” he agreed.
Geet looked surprised at Maan which had not gone unnoticed by him.
“Yes, Geet?” he raised his brows.
“Nothing” she smiled faintly shaking her head. Saru is actually going to organise something. He does know its for a dinner? Not a business conference, right? She mused.
After breakfast, everyone stood and dispersed in different directions. Maan offered a ride to the office to Geet and she’d refused.
“Why?” he sighed heavily looking exasperated.
“Because I don’t want anyone to see us coming together” she replied crossing her arms pushing up her breasts drawing his attention to the tight blouse she’d donned.
Geet unfolded her arms just as quickly as she caught his eyes and narrowed her eyes.
Maan cleared his throat and said, “Geet, no one will see. I’ll drop you off a street away”.
She bit down on her bottom lip in consideration then nodded. “Okay. Fine”.
He rolled his eyes internally and mused, Could you not agree without arguing for no reason, jungli?
Once they’d settled in the car, Geet brought up the weekend booking.
“Maan, you know the weekend booking is for dinner, right?” she queried.
“Why are you asking such an obvious question?” he answered with a question.
“Well, I’m just checking you know. I don’t know if you’re assuming if Naintara is inviting you to a conference or something” she shrugged nonchalantly.
“And why are you assuming the worst?” he quirked his brows. “I thought we’re giving each other a chance”.
“We are, but I do have to have some doubt na?” she replied with a sheepish smile.
Maan shook his head. Geet chuckled then shifted forward between the two front seats.
“Sandeep, how is your wife?” she quizzed picking up the conversation in the car. Maan internally rolled his eyes pulling out his phone and started going through his emails and messages.
As Maan promised Geet, she was dropped off a street away and he was driven the rest of the way whilst she walked briskly to the office building.
Geet had dressed in a simple white blouse and skinny dress pants which fitted her petite body and accentuated her curves in all the right places.
“Good morning, Geet” Viren greeted as he joined her side.
“Oh, hello” she smiled brightly.
“Do you always walk to work?” he inquired as they walked through showing their ID badges to security and entered the building.
“Uh, not always. Sometimes” she lied smoothly and paused noticing Maan stood by the elevators with Adi and Sasha waiting for the elevator. He was dropped right to the door and he’s still here. Saru!
“MK sir isn't so scary” Viren nudged her playfully.
“Oh, I wasn’t scared” she chuckled shaking her head.
“I know, I was just teasing” he responded gesturing her to walk ahead of him.
Maan stepped inside followed by Adi, Sasha. He turned around and was surprised to see Geet following in with Viren. He masked his expressions as usual focusing on his phone.
“MK, I notice you’re going to go to see the site for Mr Kapur” Sasha turned her body slightly to him inching closer. “I’m free this afternoon and wanted to join, if that’s ok”.
Geet had stood with her back planted to the side of one of the walls with Viren. They had the direct view of Maan in the opposite corner and Sasha standing besides him.
Viren nudged Geet nudging in the direction of Sasha and smiled playfully. Despo he mouthed. She smiled dipping her chin down holding back her laughter that wanted to erupt. Maan barely listened as he focused on an email humming nonchalantly.
“Ok great” Sasha gleamed brightly and excitement. “We could go for lunch first then make the trip to the site, what do you think?”
Maan lifted his head as the elevator stopped on their floor. He looked at her as she waited for an answer. “Sorry, Sasha. What did you say?”
“Sasha Ma’am was asking you out to lunch” Geet piped up and felt her cheeks burn feeling everyone’s eyes zoning on her. “Uh… um, I’m going to go” she jumped out of the elevator running towards the office. Viren and Adi briskly followed.
“It’s nothing like that, MK” Sasha muttered feeling embarrassed in front of him. She cursed Geet and cleared her throat. “I was saying, we could have a quick discussion over the Kapur’s project before we visit them on the site” she mumbled uncertainly.
“I’ve got another meeting before I head out” he replied walking past her and headed towards his office.
Sasha clenched her fists by her sides and headed in the direction of the finance office.
“What were you thinking?” Adi laughed as he ushered them into the office.
“That I am feeling ashamed of my gender” she replied rolling her eyes.
“Geet, that’s Sasha! Sasha!” Viren chuckled. “I think I saw smoke coming out of her nose and ears” he added.
Geet stiffened when the door swung open and Sasha stormed inside.
“What the heck was that?” she yelled. “Adi, have you not taught any manners to her?” she shot a glare to Adi then turned to Geet. “Do you know who I am? You’re a junior! An assistant, the trainee!” she snapped.
“Sasha, that’s enough” Adi stepped in placing himself between Sasha and Geet. “She is my employee and works for me. Not you”.
“And I still have seniority over you, Adi” Sasha pointed out angrily.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry. Maan didn’t hear so I was just repeating what you said” Geet replied.
“Maan? Maan? He’s your boss!”
This work wife of his… Geet cursed inwardly. “Of course, sorry” she plastered an apologetic smile. “Maan SIR”.
“Don’t forget you’re a trainee, Geet. I will not hesitate to make recommendations of terminating your contract if you disrespect me again” she stated.
Geet nodded and watched her turn to Adi.
“It will be your job to make sure she doesn’t step out of line, again” she stormed out of the door angrily.
“Wow, she’s crazy” Geet breathed out heavily.
“Like I said, despo” Viren shook his head. “You ok?” he asked looking at her concerned. It was only her first week and she’s got the evil eye of Sasha on her.
“Yeah, I am. I can hold my own” Geet assured with a smile. Mrs despo if you only you knew your MK is already married she mused silently as she walked across and settled on her desk. Adi then dove right into work giving them their tasks for the day.
“MK…” Sasha entered his office then frowned when he wasn’t there. She was about to turn to leave when his desk phone rang. She peered in the office next door and noticed his assistant wasn’t there. So she walked around to pick up the phone, as she answered she noticed the laptop screen he had left open.
She corresponded with the client who’d called but her focus was on the restaurant website he was on and the reservation page. Her eyes widened when she noted it was one of the best restaurants in Delhi which had raving reviews.
Who is he going with? She thought and hummed at the client’s response on the other end of the phone then placed the phone down. She scribbled a quick message on the post-it note then peered closer.
Dinner reservation for 5 people? But there’s only 4 of them in their house she mused. She straightened hearing the noise from the adjoined washroom and quickly rushed to the other side of the desk just in time for when Maan stepped out.
“Sasha?”
“Hi MK, I’d come to check about what you wanted to do for the Malhotra’s suppliers” she rambled quickly. “You also got a call” she added. “I’ve scribbled down the message” she pointed.
“The supplier’s were slacking, right?” he inquired.
“Yes, there were complaints to say they’ve been delaying things and not giving us the correct supplies” she nodded.
He hummed gesturing her to take a seat then they dove into the discussion about the Malhotra’s supplies. Soon after he dismissed her to contact his client back then worked on confirming the booking at the restaurant.
“Adi” Sasha approached him as he sat in the cafeteria with Geet and Viren during lunch.
“I thought you’re going out to lunch?” he inquired curiously.
“MK has another meeting right now” she muttered. “Come here” she gestured moving away from the prying ears of Geet and Viren.
“I’m eating” he pointed to his half-eaten sandwich.
“It will take 2 seconds” she muttered.
“Sasha, you can speak to me here or wait until I’ve finished lunch” he gave her two options. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
“MK only has 3 other members in his family, right?” she asked.
Geet’s ears perked at that but she didn’t look up and instead continued eating her lunch and chatting with Viren as if they couldn’t really hear her.
“Yes, why?”
“He’s booked to go on a dinner this weekend with 5 members” she informed.
“And how do you know its for family? and not for clients?”
“Has MK ever booked for anyone except his family?” she quizzed narrowing her eyes.
“Who cares what he does?” Adi sighed heavily.
“You’re just… useless” she snapped and stalked off.
“She sounds very invested in him” Geet remarked once Sasha was out of earshot.
“Like we said, she’s got a major crush on him. Probably more now since it’s developed for 5 years” Adi replied picking up his sandwich and continued his lunch.
“Why do you work longer than others?” Geet inquired as she stepped out of the washroom having finished her nightly routine. She had left the office at 5pm as usual whereas Maan was busy and didn’t come home until 8pm when they’d all sat to eat dinner.
“As far as I remember I was the boss” he looked up. He sat leaning against the headboard. He’d showered and changed into his lounge pants and a black vest. His laptop resting on his lap as he tapped away on the keyboard.
Geet hummed tossing the towel on the sofa and climbed into the bed. “Don’t you think you should stop working now? It’s nearly 11” she pointed to the clock.
“I’m just finishing up a few emails then I’ll sleep” he said with a smile.
Geet leaned against the headboard pulling up her book from the nightstand and opened it up on the page she was on and started reading. The silence in the room wasn’t stifled as before or awkward. But almost comfortable and content.
Geet’s eyes flickered to the corner as he murmured softly under his breath re-reading whatever it was he typed then corrected. She smiled faintly seeing his attention so focused. She let her eyes wander as well, his legs were stretched above the blanket and his feet crossed at the ankles. His lounge pants were pretty much curled around his calves and thighs showing off the thick lean muscles. His black vest stretched across his body like a second skin. His pectorals looked firm and in place.
She continued her ascension to his collarbone then throat to his m shaped lips then his eyes. The soft caramel coloured eyes were locked onto hers.
Maan smirked seeing the two spots of pink colouring her cheeks. “Anything interesting, Geet?” he asked.
She rolled her eyes and turned her head away biting her cheeks to stop herself from laughing. “Nothing”.
“I’m sure you were admiring me” he stated smugly as he switched off the laptop and placed it aside.
“Hmm, you’d like to think so” she shook her head returning her attention to the book.
“I know so” he whispered. His voice so close as was his breath brushing her ear.
Geet turned her head, her nose almost touched his nose. She swallowed. Her eyes dropped to his lips then his eyes.
Maan leaned forward pressing his lips against hers. Her fingers loosened around her book. It dropped to the side. Completely forgotten as her attention was now on him. A rush of adrenaline coursed through her. She shifted sliding her fingers through his hair as he wrapped his arms around her hips pulling her close.
Geet closed her eyes melting in his kiss, he pecked and nibble. He tentatively stroked his tongue between her lips before he delved further deepening the kiss.
She moaned clenching her thighs together at the ache in her core. Unfamiliar intense emotions coursed through her body. A wave of yearning streamed through every nerve cells making her body tingle.
Maan withdrew breathing heavily. The need to inhale air had them pulling apart. It was then they realised how close they were. Geet was sitting astride on his lap, the v of her legs pressed down on his evident bulge. She blushed furiously trying to leap out of his lap. He chuckled keeping her place and pressed his forehead to hers.
“Nothing to be embarrassed about” he muttered.
She nudged him and shook her head. “You would say that” she mumbled. “You’re shameless” she added.
He laughed and pressed a kiss to her nose. “Let’s go to sleep”.
She hummed in agreement climbing off his lap and stretched out on the bed. Maan curled around and spooned her. Geet sighed heavily feeling relaxed and filled with warmth.
“Sasha has a crush on you” she cut through the comfortable silence.
“What?” he tightened his arm around her abdomen.
“Your work wife is obsessed with you” she laughed.
“No, she isn't” he dismissed it burrowing his face into the hollow of her neck.
“She keeps tabs on you” she pointed out.
“Geet” he tsked. “We’re in bed. Holding each other. Do you want to bring work right now?” he questioned.
“No, I was just saying…” she shrugged. “But she is obsessed with you”.
“Geet” he groaned pressing a kiss to her throat. “Enough now. Let’s sleep. I’ve got to be up early”. She hummed softly and closed her eyes letting sleep consume her.
