Chapter 12

The following day when Geet had come downstairs, she'd joined everyone at the breakfast table and shot Maan a glare who'd looked utterly confused.

"What's happened to your face today?" Naintara laughed pouring her a cup of tea and handed it to Geet.

"Nothing" she answered shortly and grabbed herself 4 toasts and started buttering.

"Bete, you're hungry today" Dadima chuckled.

"Geet madam must be" Nakul commented as he placed down the hot omelette in front of Maan. "She hadn't eaten last night".

"Why?" Maan questioned. "You said you were hungry yesterday" he reminded.

"Tum jaise saru ke baatein sun kar kisi ka bhook mitt jayega" Geet retorted.

"What the…" Maan frowned. "Tumhari problem kya hai?"

"Tum! Saru kahin ke" she stood and stormed out of the living room.

"Geet" Dadima called out concerned. "Maan, what did you do?"

"Dadima, I've not said anything to her. I just asked why she didn’t eat. She told me she was hungry when she called me for dinner" he said.

"What did you say last night when she asked you?" Naintara asked.

"I said I wasn’t hungry" he looked between dadima and Naintara.

"What do I do with this boy?" Dadima smacked her forehead.

Naintara chuckled and said, "Veerji, she was hinting at she wanted to have dinner with you".

"Couldn’t she just ask me properly? How does she expect me to understand?" Maan looked in annoyance and stood up.

"Aap kahan jaa rahe hai? Breakfast toh khaaye" dadima said.

"I'm going to catch my wife" he dropped the napkin and hurried out the door.

"Sandeep, where did Geet go?" Maan questioned, he knew she wouldn’t have taken the car and would have gone somewhere on foot.

"Madam turned left there" Sandeep pointed.

"Okay, thanks" Maan walked in the same direction.

"Sir, shall I bring the car?" Sandeep called.

"No, I'll call you if I need you" Maan replied and continued forward.

Geet had slowed her stride as she walked through the park, she continued to curse her husband though in the open air.

"Swear a bit more louder so I can hear what you're saying".

She yelped and turned around, "Tum? Why are you here?"

"Couldn’t you just have asked me yesterday?" he rested his hands on his hips.

Geet realised what he'd meant, she turned her head away rolling her eyes. She continued to walk ahead and Maan stepped besides her walking alongside.

"Geet, I'm not a mind reader nor do I figure out double meanings of anything" Maan started. "That just isn't me. Simply just tell me".

"You said you'll give me a chance, but Maan you couldn’t even join me for dinner yesterday" she pointedly said. "What does your chance entail? Does it involves us getting to know each other? Or does it mean straight off the bat a sexual relationship?"

Maan gritted his teeth, clenching his fists to his sides as he stared intensely at his wife, "That is what you're deducing from me not joining for a dinner?".

"What do you want me to think then?" she snapped.

"Seriously Geet? Is this where you want to have an argument?" he spread his arms out pointing to the park.

"Do you think I want to argue, Maan? Do you think I enjoy this?" she countered angrily. "Tum… You say you'll give a chance but you cannot join me for one dinner. Yesterday… I suggested you join me outside in the rain, you just told me to come inside and walked away. I wanted you to… I don’t know… maybe join me and spend time…" she sighed and stepped back.

Maan brushed his fingers through his hair swiftly in frustration, "Come, sit here for a second please" he pointed to the bench. "Please" he said again when she didn’t move. Geet moved and sat down, Maan settled besides her and took her hand into his.

"Geet, I'm not that type of person. I… I… I like simple things, I don’t like overcomplicating, everything for me should be black and white and that’s how I view the world. There's no grey areas or whatever else for me. It's simple and straightforward" he attempted explaining. "If you want something, then just ask and if I can give it or do something, I will. I don’t want to give you false hopes".

She considered his words for a moment.

"I do want to know you, Geet. I'd set off early thinking we'd spend some time but due to the rain there was a delay in coming and… it escaped my mind when I arrived" Maan spoke again when he did not get an answer.

Geet nodded. He smiled.

"Would you like to now return home to eat breakfast? I've gotta hurry" he said standing up.

"Will you take me out to breakfast?" she asked. Simple and direct as he wanted.

Maan looked surprised then nodded, he pulled out his phone asking Sandeep to bring the car to the park entrance. He then made a call to the office asking Adi to visit the construction site as he will be coming in late.

"Chale?" he asked noting their car parked up.

Geet nodded and they started walking, Maan glanced down when he felt Geet's hand slipping through his. Geet dipped her eyes down smiling shyly when he turned his head, she bit down on her lip feeling his close his fingers and lacing them with hers.

Short update for now, I had only this banked. I've injured my right hand so could not write anything. 🤢

Hope you enjoy update, hoping once my hand is recovered from injury I'll be returning with back to back updates as I had started. No PMs for now either.
