Tapaswini Vedavati, the daughter of Brahmarishi Kushadhwaja was meditating near a havan kunda, of Vishnu begging to be her husband. Captivating her incredible beauty, when she was meditating, oblivious of presence of evil eyes over her.

Ravana, the king of Lanka found Vedavati sitting in meditation posture, praying to Lord Vishnu, insisting him to be her too be husband, approached her to marry him  but she didn't even bother to hear him, and kept meditating.

He kept insisting but she didn't bother again and again which fumed him in angst, and after facing firm rejection from her, Ravana in the rage grabbed her hair and tightened his hold over them.

Ravana tried to drag her towards him but she being a tapaswini chanted an hymn and controlled all his Maya, so the last weapon in his pocket was to assault her.

The furious Vedavati cursed, "I will born again to become the reason of your death. Mark my words!!," at which he laughed out loud as he believed, "No curse work on Ravana, Mark my words, you beautiful," and smirked.

But with blink of eyes she jumped into the havan kunda and burn herself to get re-birth, which stunned Ravana, but didn't burn Ravana's pride, it has time to kill his pride, which was coming soon.
