                 ~"In your Arms"~

REGRET.

The stench of the feeling shot out of his eyes. Khushi shuddered inwardly. Was it her? Was it this moment?

It had been four months since she had rejoined the Raizadas'. In these four months she had seen a disarmingly sensitive side of Arnav Singh Raizada. It wasn't only exclusive to his family as she had first felt. It did go beyond that realm. And the more she got to know about him, the more she felt herself giving into that overpowering feeling that had caged her heart.

They were here to celebrate the success of the Raizada's latest Fashion Show. Akash sir had convinced her to attend the party. She had given in and come.

Her eyes sought their way back to Arnav Singh Raizada. He looked devastatingly dashing in a black three buttoned suit. She had almost gasped when he had walked up to her and asked her for the dance. Involuntarily she had given a tiny nod.

She felt his cool fingers firmly gripping her waist. His other was fitted into her hand. The music seemed slower than usual and Khushi felt her legs stiffen.

She could feel the small tug his hand was giving to hers in a plea to move to the music. All the eyes in the room were fixated on them. She couldn't run. She couldn't faint. She had to stand in his arms and dance.

She looked up into his eyes and saw the exasperation nestled there. It was upsetting. She didn't dare to enjoy the moment. She felt the welcome warmth of his grasp and yet she didn't know is she was allowed to welcome it. That icy look in his eyes kept her from grabbing at this moment and sinking her soul in it.

You've been alone, you've been afraid
I've been a fool
In so many ways
but I would change my life
If you thought you, might try to love me
So please give me another chance
To write you another song
And take back those things I've done
Cause I'll give you my heart
If you would let me start all over,
Again

He pulled her near, quadrupling the pace of her heart beat. She looked into his eyes. There were a luxurious brown. A shadow of loneliness sat cozily in them. She wished she could plunge into them and drive it away'..It marred the beauty of the rich brown. His breath caressed her face tenderly and she breathed in that richness of his cologne. She stood there slowly moving to the music synchronizing with his every move. Together, they were unleashing an unearthly charm in the room. They looked nothing less than divine.

I'm not a saint
I'm just a man
Who had heaven and Earth
In the palm of his hand
but I threw it away
So now I stand here today asking forgiveness and if you could just please
Give me another chance
to write you another song
And take back those thing's I've done
Cause I'll give you my heart
If you would let me start all over
Again

He twirled her around easily. A gnawing ache to reach out to her was intensifying within his heart. He slowly and cautiously lifted his hand. He looked at her to try and fathom what he reaction would be. She looked fragile. It struck a chord in his heart and his finger gently traced the satiny expanse of her skin along the jaw. He could feel a beat there amplifying multifold. She moved closer to him. Her hand rose to position itself against his thudding heart. It felt like the most natural thing to do.

Little girl you're all I've got.
Don't you leave me standing here once again?
'Cause I'll give you my life
Yes I would.
If you would let me try to love you

So please give me another chance to write you another song and take back those thing's I've done

'Cause I'll give you my heart
If you would let me start all over
Again

Again, oh,no no ohh

You know I love you, yeah
give me one more chance
No no, no no no no

He easily lifted her off her feet and swung her around. She succumbed to the wild enjoyment she was experiencing in his hold. It was home. It was right. It was heaven. It was HIS. He slowly and gently placed her down, his eyes never leaving her face. It was an unsaid confession. He too was facing that explosion of sensations she knew. But the fact remained, while she was enjoying it'..He regretted every moment of it.

A round of claps broke out crash landing their plane of thoughts. He stepped back letting the cool air wash over her. The chilliness of the air hit her hard. She caught herself missing the warmth of him. Her eyes searched into his to see if her longing was mirrored in his. All she saw was that unreadable expression humming in his rich brown eyes.

Why was it paining her? She felt the beginnings of tears rimming her eyes. Why was it searing through her heart? Had she been expecting him to look with the fondness he he had exclusively reserved for Lavanya? Had she been imagining too much?

She took a step away and turned her back to him.

"Chamkili, zaraa hatogi?" Lavanya's sharp voice sliced through the air. Khushi turned around and saw Lavanya stuffing her hand into Arnav's. She wasn't prepared for that hellish stab of disappointment. It was suffocating in here. She had to get out of this place.

Arnav saw the trailing baby blue dupatta disappear out of the room. He felt his whole body go into relax mode.

It hadn't been easy standing there and dancing with her. It was with the greatest of difficulties he had refrained from crushing her against himself and dropping a kiss that would knock her senseless. His every move had been strung with tension. He didn't trust himself to stay away from her any longer.

He closed his eyes and continued the lifeless dance with Lavanya. It had been different with Khushi. He didn't want to remember the look in her eye when he had caressed her cheek. He didn't want to remember how pretty she had looked when she had entered the party. Baby Blue accentuated her untouched loveliness. He didn't want to remember''

He froze.

Had he imagined the shimmer of tears in her eyes before she ran off from the room? No he couldn't have imagined that.

"Errr'.Am sorry Lavanya. I have to go. Have some important work. You carry on with the party. Will catch you tomorrow."

Lavanya pouted. "But ASR'.."

"Lavanya, please not now!"

He sprinted across the dance floor and exited the party.

*******************************************************************************************************

Khushi stood in the rain letting the shower wash away her tears. It was so hopeless. She felt the agony whirl pooling thorough her heart.

"Khushi'..." The voice sounded distant.

"Khushi'..."

Khushi wheeled around to see Arnav standing there, drenched in the rain. She stood there transfixed. Was it some pathetic hallucination? Some sort of neurological breakdown she was suffering from. Arnav Singh Raizada couldn't be standing there. He should have been inside, dancing with Lavanya.

She watched as he regally strode towards her.

"Are you okay?" he asked her. The concern in his voice was bared to her.

She nodded vigorously.

"Sir, aapko andar jaana chahiye," she quietly said.

Arnav could hear the edge in her voice. She had been crying.

He reached out and titled her chin, leveling her eyes with his.

"No you are not okay. What is it? What is troubling you? I know I am no friend of yours. I don't even fall in the category of friendly acquaintances. But still as your employer I would like to know what is it that is troubling you," his voice resonated with bitterness at not being in the inner circle of her confidants.

She rudely pushed his hand away and stepped back. Her face crumpled with pain and her hands were shaking due to the chilliness of the downpour.

"What is troubling me?" her voice was dripping with incredulity.

She gave a derisive laugh.

"Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada. The self-claimed omniscient one! Have you no idea what is troubling this poor employee of yours?"

Arnav was taken aback by this outburst. He had never again posed off as being the Almighty. It was a closed chapter. He had accepted the human side of himself and given berth for errors. The words from Khushi's mouth were hurtful.

"What? Hurt?" she asked him in a taunting voice.

"I am hurt more than you can ever fathom. Do you know how it feels to want something you can never have? Wait. What am I talking about? You have everything you've ever wanted. Do you know what it feels like to hopelessly fall in love with someone who can never love you back? No you don't know Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada. You don't know about broken hearts and unachievable dreams. And guess what the saddest bit of my situation is??? I have fallen in love with YOU. Yes, you! A person who regrets every moment he spends in my presence. A person who can't ever gauge the pain of unrequited love," her voice broke.

Her knees buckled under the burden of her emotions but he got there quickly. She collapsed in his arms, tears endlessly pouring forth from her eyes.

All this while he had been fighting off his growing attraction to her. He had always been under the impression that she loathed him and put up the faade of cordiality. Her words hit him hard and it took a few second for them to sink into his head.

Khushi Kumari Gupta loved him.

"You think it has been easy for me?" he growled. His tone was dangerous and his grip on her upper arm tightened.

Khushi looked up at him with a perplexed expression.

"Battling against myself everyday to stay away from you. Seeing you give sunny smiles to everyone your way and reserving the coldest smile for me. Khushi, I thought you despised me with your heart's greatest might. Yes I have been REGRETTING! But not your presence but the fact that you prefer my absence. How could I bring myself to tell you how desperately I wanted your friendship, your trust."

Khushi's complexion lifted a bit. He had wanted her trust. Did that mean''.???

"But Lavanya Ma'am?" she voiced her confusion.

"Lavanya will understand'." his voice was heavy with assurance.

He pulled her close into a tight, all-consuming hug. Each, letting the rain kiss away their hurt and slipping into a completeness that was each other.

"I love you Khushi," he muttered against her hair.
