Part 7

She was observing when she moved backwards and her one foot went onto some roller and she slipped. Geet would have fallen back on her back when she was caught by someone in his arms.

She was caught in his arms, bent backward and he was hovering above her, supporting her back from his one arm. Their faces a couple of inches away and their eyes fixed on other’s beautiful and handsome faces respectively.

They were for a few moments so lost in depth of each other's eyes (Mahiiiiii),

it took them some time to realize who the other person was.

They realized at the same time and Geet wiggled to get out of his hold and he immediately straightened her and took a couple of steps back.

“What is he doing here?”

“What is she doing here?”

“You?”

Geet looked keenly at Maan and knotted her brows. She took steps forward towards him. Maan did not know why this girl was here? Is she not done taking her revenge? How did she find this is ‘his’ office?

But as she kept moving forward he stepped back “What was she up to?”

She came close to him and pointed her finger on his face

“You are following me? How shameless can you be? Okay so that puddling was intentional”

“Listen Miss, move backward” “No” and she came even forward

“You cheap. What do you think, in disguise of some professional and wearing smart clothing, you can stalk any girl. Sundar ladki dekhi nahi kee lag gaye peeche”

“Sundar? Tum? Who told you?”

“The way you are stalking me and the way you were lost in my face, don’t try to act.”

“Ohh… really?I can as well say that way you were lost in me”

“Don’t divert Mr. Do you know what this place is?”

Now Maan was pissed off with this crazy girl. She really has it in her to test his patience. He crossed his hands across his chest

“Please enlighten me with this place, Miss Sundari”

“Don’t dare give names to me. And for your information, this is my office”

“This is your office? Okay, and,” Maan was now curious with her audacity.

“Listen Mr. Don’t act smart. I will right away call the Security and they will drag you out.”

People surrounded Maan's cabin. His friends got a message and they all landed in front of his cabin. Maan was facing back and Geet was full of anger and ignored the crowd.

“Okay, call the security. I am waiting to be dragged” Maan said with all calmness on his face as anger within was not in control. Geet did not know how to call the security. She looked here and there and then saw people around the cabin, which Maan did not see. It was then Maan raised his voice which people heard

“CALL.THE.DAMN.SECURITY!!!!” Karan and Adi came forward with his loud angry voice. His one loud voice and Geet stepped back

“Everyone out” announced Adi. It was then Maan saw the crowd, which were now moving out except his friends

After all left, Karan came forward “Maan what is this? Why are you shouting at her on her first day”

“I am shouting?” he looked at Geet, who was confused as to how these MDs know about this stalker.

“And her first day?” Maan had completely forgotten his Personal Secretary was joining today. The whole position was just a budget addition for him.

“Yes Maan. She is your Personal Secretary and she is joining you today” announced Sam. Maan looked at Geet and Geet looked at Maan, obviously shocked. Shock would be a very minimal way to describe their reactions.

“And Geet, he is your new boss, Maan Singh Khurana. Sorry he shouted at you on your first day. He is generally not like this” explained Sam, apologetically at Geet.

“Boss” Geet murmured, playing with her fingers. All her boldness transformed to nervousness.

“This is your office” She murmured to Maan in very low voice, she signaled from her hand, still keeping her hand down

Adi then picked the file that Geet had messed up

“Ohh, so due to this file you are upset. But Maan, it is not correct to show your anger on her without her fault. Your file is messed up, I understand but you that’s not her fault, right? She has just joined, you should understand.”

He took the file and looked at Geet “You are right Adi.I totally forgot about this file” Geet closed her eyes

“Geet you come with me. I will show you your cabin” Geet lowered her head and moved out following Sam and Pari.

“You settle here. Here are your login credentials. Login and you will see a list of onboarding emails. We will check on your boss and explain to him.” Sam explained her

In Maan’s cabin:

“This is the girl you guys hired for me and you all think she will help me lessen my work” He looked at the file that she has messed up

“She is a very efficient and organized girl, Maan. Only her first day was a little messed up. Just like your file got mud, someone arrogant man with no civic sense, splashed mud on her clothes.”

“Arrogant and No civic sense… hmm. She must have told that, right?”

“Yeah.. she was so pissed off”

“And we have a six month contract with her for this position and we can’t fire her before that, right?” Maan enquired

“Yes Maan. She is good, yaar.” said Karan

“You can test her capabilities. You can ask her to fix this file and see her efficiency” added Pari

Maan looked at the file

“Hmmm… this file she must fix. Okay I'm fine. You guys carry on”

On the other side, Geet in her cabin could focus on nothing but curse her

“You never speak this much and this rude. And today on your first day and to your Boss” She hit her head.

Further realizing, how she had just been placing allegation after allegation on him and he had been all listening.

And then that file. She looked up

“Babajiiii.. Please save my job for once. I will work hard and think twice before speaking. Please please Babaji”

Maan looked through his cabin blind and found her in the next cabin, talking to herself.

“Really? They hired this one for me” He then looked at his file that was messed up.

Geet was restlessly pacing in her cabin when the phone on her desk rang

Ohh no, she has not even logged into the system

“Hello, Miss secretary” Geet realized with a tone who must be speaking. She looked to the next window and their eyes met

“Yes sir,” Geet said in an ever polite voice. Maan got confused with the politeness in voice and looked at his phone.

“ In case you are done with cursing me more, can you come to my cabin”

“Sure sir” And Geet kept the phone to rush to the cabin before he could speak further.

Maan closed his eyes and shook his head as the phone was abruptly disconnected by her.

“My friends have found real unique way to trouble me “

In a rush, Geet entered without knocking and stood in front of his desk “I am sorry sir. This is not me Sir. It just happened. Aur aapke saath hi…” “kyuuuunnn”

she moved her hand for ‘kyuuuunnn’ as she made baby face

“Are you done?” Maan closed his eyes tight, to control his frustration.

“No Sir. I mean, yes sir”

Maan took a deep breath. No he was a cool guy not a hot headed and angry person like his Dad. He has to keep his cool

“Miss..”

“Geet… Geet Handa Sir”

Maan again took a deep breath again. This girl, from where did they find her out. She was not even letting him complete his sentences.

After calming himself down, he picked that file and forwarded to her

“This file…”

“Sir this file… Sir, I know my mistake. You will throw me out of this job due to this one file. It’s not fair sir” Now Maan lost his patience

“Will you stay shut and let me complete my one sentence… Pleaaasee”

“Yes Sir. Sorry Sir…. bohut nervous hoon”

Nervous hoon - from which angel he could not figure out. Anyways he should not be diverted.

“Is only this file for which you think I should throw you out? You are asking for sorry, and what about when others ask you Sorry? Do you forgive or is this file the answer to people’s sorry to you.”

She opened her lips to speak, but his one stern look and she closed her lips

“Further, did I say I am throwing you out? Do you think I am same as you, who does not analyze the consequences and act in anger”

“Abb boss hain, mauka mila hai.. Suna hee loo” she murmured

“Yeh kya budbuda rahee hoo. Did I say a word wrong?”

“No Sir, you are not wrong. ‘Boss is never wrong’.”

Maan looked at her confused “Now where did that come from?”

“Sir, as part of my job preparation, I have gone through the Secretary job guide. For us the first rule is - Boss is never wrong”

Automatic smile formed on Maan’s face “What is this girl? God'' he thought

“Wrong. Whatever you have read in your guide forget it. We here, in ‘The Innovator's Land’ work differently”

“No Sir, I will follow the guideline and you will see one day you will have best Personal Secretary”

He shook his head and forwarded her the file - “Go through this. You have ruined it, you will have to get it fixed” He got up and left.

Geet kept looking at his retreating figure and then looked up “Babaji, this means my job is safe”. She gave a quick prayer. But soon, her eyes went on the file in her hand.

“Now what do I do with this file? I have no idea what work happens here? How do I fix this important file of his”

She entered her cabin and again looked at the file and made her face “This is what happens when you try to be oversmart. But it is not all my fault” She brought her index and thumb together to make a small circle

“Itti si hee sahi, per galti toh unkee bhi hai.” She then shook her head

“Chaddo Geet, Boss is always right. This should be the mantra”

Let’s see how long Geet can follow this rule.

Anyways Geet went to her cabin and logged into the system to start her onboarding process. It was all so new to her. She had never done these kinds of formality. She never knew these processes were needed. But she was happy to be in such a professional environment. The environment she never imagined she would be in.

The only problem was, on her first day she has done all to displease her Boss.

Geet got a call from Sheela “Hi Geet, how is your first day.”

“Hi Sheela, I will talk to you in the evening. Just know that my job has just been saved. I did all effort to be thrown out on first Day”

“Why what happened?”

“Will talk in the evening, Sheela. It is all so different here.” she disconnected.

It took Geet a whole two hours to get done with the onboarding process. It was all online and interactive.

It was lunch time and none of the friends were together due to their meeting at various locations. Only pinky was there looking at the HR works when she got the call

“Yes Bhabhi”

“Pinky, how was their first meeting”

“Explosion”

“Wow!!”

“Not in a positive way, Bhabhs. Had we not fixed Geet with a six month contract from both sides, Maan would have thrown her out. We don’t know exactly what happened though”

“Good”

“Good?”

“Maan, is an expert at ignoring all girls around. This girl took his full attention in the first meeting. Excellent!!”

Pinky shook her head with the logic Naintara gave her.

After having her lunch from her lunch box in her cabin itself, Geet looked to her boss’ cabin next to her.

He was not there yet. Geet thought of being productive from day one. At least this way she could make some positive impact on her boss.

Till she gets his further instructions on file, fixing that file was not her cup of tea. She got up and moved to his cabin.

The cabin was all messed up. Maan had just dumped his stuff there. Geet thought to start from there.

It took Geet another three hours to fix his cabin. She was a methodical person so before arranging the file, she arranged the office first. Then she looked inside each file and noted a few header parameters. Then based on whatever classification she understood, she kept the file in a different colored folder and arranged it in that order.

It was now already six, the office was almost empty. Geet was waiting for her Boss to turn up and then take her leave but there was no sign of him.

Maan was done with all the client meetings and then to avoid any encounter with that crazy non stop girl, he had decided to finish his work in the cafe itself. Later he directly left for home from there.

It was now seven and alone in the new office Geet was getting a bit scared. She did not even have her Boss number. Also, her Aunt would shout or taunt her. It was her time to cook dinner at home.

Geet thought of leaving the office now. She was looking for her Boss number so she could tell him of her absence.

Maan was about to reach home when something struck him. He had left that girl there in his office. It was a risky thing, not knowing what she must have messed up further.

Just to check if all was fine he called his office and Geet who was about to leave picked the phone

“Hello, Maan Singh Khurana’s office”

“Tum? What are you doing in the office till now? ”

“Sir, I was waiting for you to come. I wanted to seek your permission before leaving.”

“Are you out of your mind? Office must be completely empty”

“It’s Ok sir. I am just leaving”

“It’s late winter evening and it’s dark. How far is your home?”

“About an hour, Sir. But I will take an auto Sir”

Maan looked around, it was pretty dark. And in that dark, a girl alone an hour ride in an auto. He didn’t want any further hassle.

“You wait in the office. I will be there”

“Sir, I will be fine” Maan closed his eyes tight. Why does this girl have to argue on everything

“Wait. It’s an order” and he disconnected. Maan never ordered anyone. He was friends with his staff. He believed everyone played their role. But this girl had ways to force him to break his own rule.

Not to upset Boss further, Geet obeyed. But she was worried, it was getting late and she had to cook dinner and teach Titu. She is going to lose her personal time.

Today her dream boyfriend would have proposed to her in her made up dream sequence. But now it looks like she is not going to get time for her boyfriend.

Maan saw Geet standing at the reception of the building

“Come, I will drop you”

“Sir, why did you trouble yourself?” Maan controlled his anger. Since he has met her, all this girl has done is to double his work

“Chalo” he said, a bit loud and stern. Geet nodded and quietly followed.
