Chapter 6
She slams his door really really hard! After Arushi gets in the building, she heads straight into the lobby washroom. For some strange reason there was a weird stinging sensation in her eyes. She brushes it away and takes out her cell phone to call Maya. She picks up on the fourth ring.
Maya: hello?
Arushi: Hey Maya, its Aru. Where are you?
Maya: I'm uhh with Raj, why?
Arushi: did you forgive him?
Arushi could hear the smile in Maya's answer, "Of course, it's kind of hard not to."
While they are talking, Arushi is making her way up to her office. She sits down at her computer desk, and logs on to check her email.
Arushi: can I ask you a serious question about Adi?
Maya: um sure.
Arushi: does Adi like anyone???
Maya: why are you suddenly asking this question?
Arushi: wait a second, I just got mail.
Arushi check her email, and is surprised to see one from a private sender, curious, she still clicked on it. The entire message said, was "That girl I like, is you Arushi!"
It takes Arushi about two minutes to figure it out
Arushi: (under her breath) omg
Maya: what happened?
Arushi: I just got an email from a private sender that says, "That girl I like is you Arushi!"
Maya: so?
Arushi: Maya you're so clueless!! This email has to be from Adi!
Maya: and so? Ooo wait, does that mean he likes you?
Arushi: oh um
Maya: Aru tell me, do you like him too?
Raj: (in the background) who likes who? Someone want to tell me too?
Maya just tells him, "no one likes anyone, except I like you okay? Now Shush!"
Raj: I love you too!
Maya: RAJ?? I said like, no one said the word love!!
Raj: oh really?
Arushi yells into the phone: Will you guys continue you romantic talk after my problem is solved??
Maya laughs: sorry! Raj go make me something to eat….
Arushi laughs: ok so what do I do?
Maya: well do you like him?
Arushi: yes I do…
Maya: seriously? OMG that is sooo exciting!!
Arushi: hello, let's continue with the help first…
Maya: sorry, ok so you both like each other, but he's admitted it, and you haven't right?
Arushi: right…
Maya: then torture him!
Arushi: what? How?
Maya: ok well, don't tell him that you like him just keep flirting with him...
Arushi: but…
Maya: no but's!! Please do it?
Arushi: but I hardly ever see him…
Maya: oh…. um…I just got a totally brilliant idea!!!
Arushi: what? WHAT?
Maya: come over for a sleepover tonight!!
Arushi: ummm sleepover? At your house? With Adi and Raj there?
Maya: you don't trust my brother?
Arushi: I do…. but are you sure?
Maya: ya…it'd be so much fun…then I wouldn't have to be the only girl in that house…. with those two guys!
Arushi: ok I'll come around 7:00pm is that okay?
Maya: ya that's fine…oh this is going to be so much fun!!
Arushi: I guess, but how am I supposed to torture him?
Maya: I'll tell you all his weaknesses tonight!
Arushi: ok, now let me get back to work!
Maya: ok I'll start planning!!
Arushi: You are so weird!
Maya: it's because I'm your friend!! Anyway cya tonight! Bye!!
Arushi: bye
When Arushi finally gets into her pile load of work and articles, time seems to fly by for her, until Ms. Adams phone call.
Arushi: hello?
Ms. Adams: Arushi, nice to actually hear your voice, not the answering machine! Where were you?
Arushi: I was uh…
Ms. Adams: don't even bother answering, it's not like I really care anyways! I only called you to let you know that the girl working with you will be coming in on Monday, which is tomorrow, not on Thursday like it was originally planned.
Arushi: (gritted her teeth) that's fine!
When Ms. Adams finally hung up the phone, Vinit walked right in her office.
Vinit: I'm sorry Arushi!! I really am!!!
Arushi: whoa Vinit!! Calm down!
Vinit: Arushi…. I love you!! I can't live without you!!
Arushi is completely shocked and doesn't know what to say!
Arushi: I…uh…uh…Vinit, I don't think of you in that way!
Vinit: Oh Arushi, I'm not saying it to you! If I say this to Raashi, down in accounting, what would she answer?
Arushi: Raashi? In accounting? You like her?
Vinit: I don't like her. I love her! What would she say if I told her?
Arushi: I don't really know her Vinit, so I don't know what she would say.
Vinit: You know something Arushi? I haven't told you this ever but…. I…. really…liked you a few months ago, and then I realized that I can never be with you so I opted for someone almost like you, even her name is similar to your's. Arushi, Raashi. Arushi please don't say anything, I just needed to let you know how I felt….
He moves towards her, for a hug, but Arushi quietly moves away.
Arushi: Vinit, could you leave my office please right now? I'm not sure I can look at you right now…
Vinit: sure I understand I'll go profess my love for Raashi!
Arushi gives Vinit the trademark thumbs-up.
Taking that as more incentive, Vinit went off to the accounting department.
Arushi: (thinks) what a creep? He likes Raashi because her name sounds like mine?
Gradually the time comes around for Arushi to go to Maya's house. When she gathers up all her stuff and opens the door to leave. She is startled by Vinit who is holding a tissue by his nose.
Arushi: Vinit? What happened?
Vinit: Arushi!! Arushi, she said she'd think about it!! Isn't that great news?
Arushi: (thinks) He's excited about a girl saying that she'll think about him?
Arushi: Oh wow Vinit!! That's very exciting!! You better got home and tell all your friends!! (Thinks) if you have any!!
Vinit: I don't have any, that's why I came to tell you!!! But it's ok!! I'll go and tell my fishes!!
Arushi: Ok Vinit! Have fun! BYE!!
She ushers Vinit out her door, and into the service elevator that goes straight down to the car park. She leisurely locks up her office, and walks to the main elevator in order to avoid Vinit! When she gets to the lobby, she is surprised to see no one there, except the guard and the receptionist.
Arushi: Hey Maria! Where is everyone?
Maria: Hi Arushi! They're all upstairs in the board meeting, why aren't you there?
Arushi: I wasn't um informed about it.
Maria: oh well, maybe it's not important for you!
Arushi: ya but if Vinit's head editor then why isn't he there?
Maria: he's not? Oh Arushi, that's because the meeting is for everyone who works in the lobby.
Arushi: Maria! Why didn't you tell me? I was so worried! But what's the meeting for?
Maria: we're doing some maintenance down here….
Arushi: oh ok! Bye Maria, see you tomorrow in the afternoon!
Maria: you're not coming in the morning?
Arushi: no, I'm going to have a late night tonight, and I'll do some work in the morning from home. Bye!!
Maria: Bye Arushi!
Arushi finally makes her way to the service elevator and takes it down to the car park. She is happily surprised to not see Vinit anywhere there…She goes to her car stall, and is shocked to not see her car there!
Arushi: Shit! Where the hell is my car?
She thinks back to how Adi dropped her off in the afternoon after their lunch date.
Arushi: (thinks) crap now what do I do?
She quickly calls Maya.
Maya: Hey! Where are you?
Arushi: I'm still at work.
Maya: what, why?
Arushi: Adi dropped me off here after our lunch date, so I have no way of making it to your house unless I catch a ride with a co-worker.
Maya: hey, don't worry about it! I sent Raj in my car to go rent a movie for tonight, and I'll just call him and tell him to pick you up too!
Arushi: (quiet voice) not Adi?
Maya: oh ho? So you want Adi huh? Well too bad! My poor brother is working over time right now so he can come home in an hour. Only for you!
