Chapter 19
"You're still with HER?" Gemma asked angrily.
"How is this dumb Brit even in this country?! And why are you kissing her?!" Both women looked angrily to Kartik. He looked as if he were about to cry.
"Tanya, Gemma is as much Indian as you are, if not more. And I'm kissing my wife, do you mind?" Kartik said loudly.
"You guys are divorced!" Tanya exclaimed.
"How would you know that?" Gemma asked smartly, suddenly everything fell into place.
"I…I…I…" Tanya stuttered dumbly. Kartik slapped his forehead at his stupidity. How could he have possibly believed that his Gemma would want him to leave?
"Tanya, get out of my house right now." Kartik said in a fit of anger. Tanya looked sorry leaving. Angad walked in with Kripa on his arm. Gemma embraced Kartik again, she whispered in his ear, "You know our wedding anniversary is coming up?" He nodded smiling.
"Whoa, what? I could have sworn she just said…" Angad said laughing nervously.
"Wedding anniversary?" Kripa completed, scratching her head.
Kartik kissed Gemma's lips and whispered, "3 years baby." Gemma giggled like a schoolgirl, "Mhmm…"
Angad and Kripa yell at once, "WHAT?!" Their yelling brought the two out of their daze.
"Oh, I forgot to introduce you guys. Angad, Kripa, meet my wife: Mrs. Gemma Kartik Khanna."
"When did you guys…How come we never…What the hell?" Kripa rested her head, tired on Angad's shoulder. Angad punched Kartik hard, "You didn't even tell ME!?" Kartik rubbed his arm and shrugged.
Kripa sighs sadly, "Does this mean we're not eloping?" Kartik shakes his head gloomily. The two laugh.
"Me and you are both Mrs. Khanna, cool nah?" Kripa looked at Gemma, she nods happily.
"What?" Kartik said confused, Kripa beams as she brings her hand up and flashes the diamond to Kartik.
Aaliya walks in.
Kripa says to Kartik, "Congratulations on your wedding." Kartik replies, "Congratulations on your engagement."
Aaliya stands at the foot of the stairs, "What did I miss, and who are you?" she asks pointing to Gemma.
"That's your bhabhi." Kartik smiles putting her arm around her.
"Wow. She's pretty. But isn't she a little bit…"
"White?" Gemma laughed, "Actually, me adhi Hindustani hoon, lekin dil mera poora Hindustani hai. Like the Shahrukh Khan-Juhi Chawla film. Waise mein yahaan hi pali-badhi hoon." She smiled at Aaliya's shocked expression at her perfect Hindi.
"Wow, you watch Bollywood films?" Aaliya says surprised
"Love em." She grinned.
"Really?" Aaliya looks toward Kartik, "She's in. I like her." Gemma smiled at her cute sister-in-law. Aaliya continued, "You got married without telling anybody, that doesn't surprise me. Kartik has always been quite useless." Gemma laughed at her remark. "But YOU!" She poked Kripa hard in the ribs.
"How could you get engaged without telling ME?!"
"The same way you got engaged without telling me!" Kripa said offended. She slapped her mouth shut, "Oops." She added. Everyone stared at Aaliya.
"Okay Sorry. But I've been wearing this thing for 3 weeks now and nobody has noticed, now whose fault is it you all are dumb. Minus my bhabhi, I like her." She smiles at Gemma. She held her hand up beside her face, displaying the ring very obviously.
"Hey, it's great every one is in love and getting, or in Kartik's case is married…but umm...who is gonna tell mom?" Angad says rubbing his head. The room goes dead silent. Aaliya says happily, "I'll tell Mom."
Clicking of keys in the front door is heard, "Tell me what?"
