Chapter 10
"Hey…shhh, Kripa." Angad consoled.
"Angad…" she sniffled. She never felt more safe in her life than she ever had in Angad's arms. He too felt a strange comfort. He thought to himself, it was her scent…no perhaps her breath.
He couldn't pinpoint what it was that made him feel what he did for her, but he loved every second he spent with her.
"Kripa?" She had stopped crying, they had sat in silence for over 15 minutes.
"Hmm?" Kripa smiled. She expected him to speak some more sweet words to her, not predicting that her Angad ran out of stock of that.
"What do you eat? My leg is going numb." Angad said jokingly. She got up and smacked him lightly in the arm. Angad looked down at her, admiring her smile but seeing the emptiness in her eyes made him think. Kripa leaned upward to kiss him lightly on the lips, making a loud smacking noise which made them blush.
"HEY! None of that in MY room!" giggled Aaliya, who had apparently just walked in, "Ahem, am I interrupting anything?"
"You interrupted before anything could friggin happen" mumbled Angad, Kripa smacked him jokingly on the side hearing his comment.
"What was that?" said Aaliya mockingly, pretending not to hear him.
"Nothing my darling sister." Angad said returning her tone. The times he loved his sister most was when she wasn't around. But no joke, everyone knew when the time came Angad was the ideal big brother ever. Both annoying and protective, both powerful and caring. Aaliya was an ideal sister when the time came too. In sorts, they were a perfect family…but incomplete in so many ways. Aaliya thought Kripa would make a darling bhabhi, and her and Angad's affection made Aaliya miss Nikhil so much…she drifted into his thoughts while…
"Hey, stop making out in my room!!!!!!!!" Aaliya screamed suddenly pulling herself out of the thoughts of her dream man, who no one in her family knew about yet.
Kripa's lips pulled away from Angad's as she giggled sheepishly. "I love you." She said softly, in a whisper almost.
"I love you too." Angad said planting his lips upon hers once more. Aaliya stood there in disgust.
"EW!"
"Grow up, Aali." Kripa laughed between breathes.
"You're my best friend Kripa, but you two REALLY need to get out. Before I get nauseous." Aaliya said making gagging noises as she fled to the bathroom.
"Hey. You think we seriously made her puke?" Angad laughed
"Mhmm." Kripa nodded as she heard barfing noises from the bathroom down the hallway.
"Wow. This being in love stuff is great…" He laughed casually, before Kripa hit his arm lightly before going to check on her puking friend. When she reached the bathroom, she lightly knocked the door.
"Hey Aali. You okay?...Aali? Aaliya, It's me Kripa." Concerned, she open the door to the bathroom to find a laughing Aaliya, with her stood a denim clad boy about the same age as Aaliya.
"Aaliya? What the hell? Who is that?" Kripa said pointing to the boy. She had to admit he was cute. Tall, green eyes, and dark brown hair spiked with light brown highlights. He looked almost like a model, if Kripa hadn't been thinking of Angad the whole time she would've tried her luck with this boy instead, she thought giggling.
"Ummm this is…my…umm…This is Nikhil. My um…"
"Boyfriend. I figured. My question is how come I've never met or heard of him before. You from around here." Kripa asked, putting her hand forward for a polite shake.
"I'm Nikhil Arora. Actually, I live in Santacruz. So yeah I live pretty close. You probably haven't heard of me because I'm…"
"An Arora." Kripa said in an epiphany, "So you guys meet in the bathroom every night?" Kripa said mocking Aaliya.
"No," Aaliya rolling her eyes, "He usually comes and meets me in my room. But you guys were too busy making out so I texted him to meet me here instead."
"Why can't you people just meet in the park like normal boyfriend-girlfriends?" Kripa inquired. She thought it was kind of romantic how they met but a little weird at the same time. Aaliya lived on the third story of the Khanna Mansion, so it was adorable how much trouble he must take every night to come see her.
"Cuz I'm an Arora and she's a Khanna, and I am the CEO of Arora Industries, Inc and she's the daughter of the much famous Dilip Khanna. The press would tear us up before we even got to see each other."
"HEY! What the hell is going on here?" Angad said walking into the bathroom. He stared the boy who held his sister's hand up and down. He didn't recognize him at all. "Aaliya."
"Bhaiya, this is Nikhil." Aaliya said gulping, she tightened her grip on his hand. Kripa thought it wouldn't be long before this very cute boyfriend of Aaliya's would be turned to ground meat.
"Angad. Just listen." Kripa pulled on his hand. She took him into the adjoining room.
"What listen, Kripa? She's just a baby. She doesn't understand things. That boy tricked our innocent Aaliya into God knows what…This is no age for her to have a boyfriend. Especially HIM. Have you seen him, his face shows how cunning he is. I don't trust that boy with her for one second." Angad yelled at her. Kripa never had seen his protective side before. It was as cute as it was scary. In fact, she had never seen Angad serious in her 22 years. This was a shock.
"Aaliya is your baby sister, true. But she is NOT a baby. You have to understand that. Angad, she's an adult…she can make her own decisions. And if she really cares about this boy, and Nikhil really cares about her too. We should be okay with it. After all, she needs someone to be in support of this relationship. No one knows but us." Kripa stayed calm and tried to make him understand.
"Fine Kripa, whatever you say. You can be in support to this but I'm still skeptical. Until Maa and Papa don't okay it, I'm gonna sleep on it."
"NO!!!" Aaliya ran into the room, "You CANNOT tell Maa and Papa about this. They'll kill him…or me. Papa will freak!"
"Why?" Angad asked confused.
"Angad, this is Nikhil…Nikhil Arora." Kripa said pointing at the nervously smiling boy.
"ARORA?! HELL NO! Aaliya go to your room. Now!" Angad screamed.
"Angad, listen to yourself. You sound worse than your father." Kripa sighed. Nikhil sat on the bed.
"Listen man, Angad. I really love Aaliya and she really loves me. I really don't care if she's a Khanna or if I'm an Arora. We didn't fall in love with each other's names. We fell in love with each other…and none of you guys can change that. If we had you all's approval, this whole thing would be a lot easier."
Angad sighed and sat beside him. "If you EVER hurt her, I promise I will break every bone in your little lover boy body. Got it?" Angad said without looking up.
Nikhil laughed and replied, "The thought would never cross my mind."
"And if you touch her in any way that is inappropriate…Me and Kartik will hunt you down."
"She's told me…" Nikhil sighed.
"And man…" Angad looked up at him, "You break her heart, and I'll break you."
"I know. Not that I would either way." Nikhil said getting up, "Thanks you guys. You don't know how much it means to Aaliya that you're being so cool about this."
"Nikhil.." Kripa said.
"Yeah?" Nikhil said turning around, he was about to leave.
"How do you come to meet her every day?" Kripa smiled.
"I climb the pipes to get to her window." Nikhil laughed. He walked into Aaliya's room. Her face lit up seeing him in one piece. Wrapping his arms around her, he brushed his lips over hers and watched her giggle. Then he climbed out the window. Kripa watched and laughed. She wrapped her arms around Angad, and rubbed his tense shoulders.
"She had you that worried?" Kripa said lifting an eyebrow.
"She's my little sister. It's my job to protect her. Yeah, that boy scared the living crap outa me." Angad sighed, laying down on his own bed. Kripa plopped down beside him.
"They're cute, nah? So romantic, nahin?" Kripa said her eyes twinkling. "He climbs pipes every night to come see her. Away from the world, all secretive…it's so…Romeo and Juliet."
He laughed sarcastically "Yeah, to top it all off the Arora and Khanna families hate each other. Remind me to get that pipe cut later on…"
"Angad! If our families hated each other, would you still love me…?"
"I dunno. Probably. I didn't fall in love with your family, I fell in love with you."
"You snapped at that poor boy for saying the same thing.
"I did, didn't I? But that was different. He was…" Kripa raised an eyebrow at him.
"Kripa… Whatever." Lying down, he pulled at her waist. She giggled. His body towered hers as she felt herself melting under his gaze. Both their smiles vanished as they absorbed the heat from the others' eyes.
"Angad" she said in a whisper, tears brimmed her eyes as she choked out the words. "I have to go…"
"Where?" Angad was pulled out of his daze.
"Home."
"This is home."
"For you. Not for me. I have to go." Before he could stop her or even understand what had just happened, Kripa had fled the room.
"Kripa…come back." Angad looked for her next door, in her house but her mom said she wasn't home. He tried the college, library, the park, her favorite restaurant, but he couldn't find Kripa. Finally, he called the cell phone his mother had gifted her for her birthday.
"Hello Kripa?" Angad said eagerly, instead of Kripa he heard a recording.
"Hey, this is Kripa. I can't come to the phone right now, please leave me your name and number after the beep and I'll hit you up. By the way, If you're Angad don't bother." She heard her laugh. It made him smile, he was there when she recorded that message, they were at the beach that was where she went when she felt down…oh duh, that was where she was.
He pushed the accelerator to the maximum and got to the beach in what seemed like less than a minute. He saw Kripa's phone on the sand. He picked it up: 1 NEW TEXT MESSAGE.
Oh God, he should've known. He read it:
Sry darling for givin u dat scare earlier. But wat else culd I do? See u at 2…showing up would be the smart thing 2 do, or else u kno me love.
-prithvi
2 o clock? It was 2: 45 now. She should be here. Why had she gone alone? He was angry and confused all at once. He spotted Kripa near the boardwalk.
"Kripa!!" Angad yelled, running towards her. She ran towards him with double the speed. Before he could get even half way, she wrapped around him, sobbing all over his jacket.
"Kripa? What's wrong? Kripa?" Angad said pulling her away by her shoulders.
"Angad….Let's go. I don't wanna be here. Let's go now, please."
"Kripa, we'll go but what happened?"
"Nothing, let's go." She said still sobbing. Without further questions, they went back to his house. She laid in his arms for a little over half the day, and not a word was spoken by either of them. They just laid there, on the living room sofa, Kripa sobbing Angad trying to console her.
Eventually, she fell asleep. Angad didn't have the heart to wake and move her so he slept there with her, with Kripa still in his arms. His parents came, saw them smiled and passed by. No one woke them or said anything. They looked too peaceful. The next morning, Dilip and Naina went to work, Kartik and Aaliya went to school. All that were left were the still sleeping Angad and Kripa.
Around 8 o clock, the doorbell rang. It woke Angad with a startle, it continued ringing. Maybe the servants were on a leave. Kripa was awake by then too.
"I'll get it." Kripa said seriously. Her eyes were red and puffy from the night before.
She opened the door to find 4 men and a woman at the doorstep.
"Yes?" Kripa asked, "How may I help you?"
"Yes, is Mr. Angad Khanna there?" asked the oldest man, Kripa recognized him.
"Umm…yeah. Angad." She said glancing back to her half-asleep boyfriend. He was awake enough to stumble to the front door.
"I'm Angad. How may I help you?" He asked rubbing his eyes.
"I'm ACP Pradyuman and you, Angad Khanna, are under arrest for the murder of Prithvi Bose."
"What?" Angad said as he was being handcuffed by Abhijeet. Kripa's eyes widened in amazement, as tears flowed freely down her cheeks.
"Kripa, don't worry. You know I didn't do it. I'll be back in a while. Call Dad and Kartik. Don't tell Maa, she'll be worried."
"Angad…" she said a salty river flowing down, she could taste her own sadness curving around her cheekbones. It was bitter in her mouth, she hated the taste but she couldn't help but continue as she saw the man she loved being taken away from her.
As the door slammed shut, she crumbled against it as she thought out loud, "This is ALL my fault." She let out more angst before she called Kartik, who fortunately was also the family's lawyer.
