PART 39

'Not today yaar...' Rahul frowned as he spoke into his cell, making sweet faces looking down at his daughter who was lying patiently on his leg. As Armaan rambled about their plan to Lonavla, Rahul sighed again, n spoke, 'Yaar tu jaanta nahi hai ki Muskaan kitni tang hai aaj kal...in fact main soch raha tha ki we'll drop the baby with you guys n I'll take her out for dinner,'

'Pagalon waali batein matt kar...tu jaanta hai na ki mujhse ek mushkil se sambhalti hai, plus aaj surprisingly Riddhima bohot romantic mood mein hai,' he paused, n then snickered, 'Mere liye gobi ke paranthe ban rahe hain,' Armaan ruffled a hand through his hair n crossed his legs on the sofa, beaming all the way.

'Acha hai, waise meri pari ko bhi gobi kaafi achi lagti hai, mind giving her some bits please? aur sun, we'll be there in exactly an hour from now so just keep ready,'

'Abbey oye, Riddhima aur maine kab ki baby sitting chodd di hai. So just shut up n pack your bags for Lonavla,' he stood up, then walked to the kitchen where Riddhima was putting some ghee on the pan as she tucked a lock behind her ear. She smiled at him tentatively from behind her shoulder, as he came n kissed her head casually, talking to Rahul all the way.

'Armaan samjha kar yaar, aur tujhe yaad nahi ki tu mere paas kaise rote rote aaya tha jab tune kaha tha ki Valentines par toh tu Riddhima ko bahar lejja ni saka, uske ek hafte baad mera aur Muskaan ka saara weekend romance cancel karke humein Arima ko dekhna tha..yaad hai ya bhool gaya, anyway, Riddhima se baat karvana, yeh Muskaan ko kuch poochna hai...'

'Muskaan,' Armaan handled the phone to Riddhima, as he picked up a carrot from the counter, munching on it as he placed himself up on it.

'I cant believe unki wajah se hum Lonavla ni jaa rahe,' the last of the carrot was also finished as he looked at her, pouting, his legs dangling as he sat on their kitchen counter.

'Armaan,' she looked at him, 'Tum jaante ho na kitna difficult ho jaata hai baby ke saath...aur waise bhi you are not upto it...acha anyway, ab hato mujhe yeh pack karna hai...Armaan hatttoooo,' Riddhima frowned as he kissed her cheek, n then they heard a loud booming voice as he dropped her hand instantly.

'Abbay yaar yeh Ms Aaloowalia ki toh...' he lifted his arm, as if ready to punch, as she took hold of it, n frowning silghtly, 'Armaan..aise nahi bolte, ab please neeche utro, woh kya sochiengi..?' she felt him kiss her head, n she hissed, 'Armaan,' n a moment later a shockingly fat woman, in what looked as her nightgown with tiger stripes on it, her head looking no less than a nest, appeared in the doorway to their kitchen, beaming at the two.

'Good Morning Mrs Aaloowalia,' Riddhima smiled at her, pushing his hand off her waist, as he was snuggled still on the counter.

'Ah! Riddhima!! How are you doing darling this morning?' she dangled her hands in the air, as she stood smiling her moon face.

'Oh Armaan!! I didnt see you for a sec, n was wondering who was there behind Riddhima,' she chuckled to herself, as he muttered under his breath, 'Khud ka size toh dekha ni hai mujhe kya dekhi gi...' Riddhima looked back at him, n hit his hand, as she busied herself with the tea time snacks.

'Oh hey Mrs Aalowalia! I didnt see you either,' The understatement of the year, he snorted, 'So hows your husbandz gardening doing?' he played with Riddhimaz dupatta as she lifted a pan of milk n kept it on the stove.

'Oh well dear, I have no idea what he is upto,' she placed a hand on her forehead, 'I told him also there was no need for those big plants that we have on the side, separating your garden from ours you know, but aah when does he seem to listen to me..' she shook her head, 'But he does hear you out Armaan, no? Think you could put some sense in his head haan?' she blinked her eyes, as he half-nodded.

'So...you wanted something?' he looked around, his feet hitting the drawers under the counter, as he nibbled on another carrot.

'Ahh well yes, I seem to be getting forgetful by each day...Riddhima honey, you think you have some milk darling? You see we were planning to cook omlettes but then Mr Aaloowalia reminded me that itts Tuesday so we decided on porridge, the new recipe book I got last weekend, remember?'

'Aah yeah, here goes your milk, n say hi to Mr Aalowalia from my side, will you?' Riddhima smiled at her, handing her a little something.

'Oh,' taking the milk, she was surprised by the sudden goodbye; nevertheless, thanking Riddhima n smiling at Armaan she walked off, as both of them sighed.

'Tum isse jhelti kaise ho yaar?' he looked at Riddhima incredulously.

'Jaise tumhein sehti hun...' Riddhima smiled, placing her arms around his neck.

'Oh really?' with one leap she was there in his lap, as he looked down at her affectionaltely.

'Armaan,' she put her head on his chest, 'Tumhaari tabiyat kaisi hai ab?'

'Ab?' he looked down at her, sitting in his lap, 'Ab toh theek honi hi thi,' n with that he pulled her closer as she laughed.

............................

'Armaan,' she called out, looking at him from beside her shoulder. He was sprawled over the bed, his legs folded under him, as the newspaper he was so deeply engrossed in was half-pressed underneath him.

'Hmm,' his eyes didnt drift to his helpless wife, standing there in front of the mirror, totally frustrated. Instead, he kept reading the story on the Cricket World Cup that was the headlines for the Times that Wednesday.

'Armaaann,' she whined, frowning as she looked at the mirror. The whole blouse n dori system was pathetic n tiresome. She made faces in the glass before her as she looked at the two loose strands that her fingers could not tie into a knot.

'Armaan,' he looked up at her, put the paper aside n jumped out of the bed. It wasnt a cry anymore, instead he recognised the stern way in which her voice called out to him, half-angry n half-frustrated. Men, seriously!! Riddhima thought, here she had to do a hundred things before they headed off to one of his cousin's wedding, n there he was easily scanning the paper, least bothered by how angry she was.

'Bolo,' he looked at her. She had her navy blue petti coat on with her sky blue blouse, the borders of which glittered in golden. Her turquoise sari was half draped around her waist, the other half scattered on the floor. Her hair reached down to its original length, straight, yet curly from the ends. Without any jewellery on, her eye lashes moved, painted in black, as she looked at herself in the mirror.

As he proceeded to tie the knot at the back of her blouse, his finger tips lightly grazing against her skin, Riddhima adjusted the folds of her sari, looking down at it. Ignoring his breath on her neck, his mind still wavering over the story he had been reading in the paper, there was just this fraction of a second when they both looked up in the mirror, their gaze held there for a moment, before she looked back down n he finally tied the knot. Instantly, she got reminded of a similiar encounter...

.............................

Four years n some months ago.
Anjali's god-bharai rasam...

'Riddhima...Riddhima!!' Padma's voice cried out in the hall, before her younger daughter looked up at her mother's voice, n saw her searching for her.

'Jee ma, aayi!' she got up from where she was sitting, n looking back at him once, she blushed as he winked back.

'Dude, you think you can control yourself here?' Armaan was still in a daze as Riddhima left, Rahul's voice reached his ears, 'I mean come on yaar...Dr Shashank ke saamne bhi...'

'Yaar..kya karoon, woh aaj lag hi itni achi rahi hai,' Armaan's eyes were fixed at her as his fiance walked towards her mother. Riddhima was dressed in a pink n yellow lehenga choli, her hair loosely fixed at the back with the help of two clips.

'Riddhima toh har waqt hi achi lagti hai,' Muskaan smiled, as Rahul looked at her n snickered. 'Anyway, yeh Anjali kahaan reh gayi? Aur hum yeh function shuru kyun nee kar rahe?'

'Naa karo, wahi achcha hai...waise Muskaan yaar ek baat bta, yeh kisne kaha ki sirf ladkiyan hi iss khushi mein shaamil hongi...hum ladke kyun nahi?' Armaan looked at her, his eyes slightly narrowed, him bending as his hands were clasped into each other.

'Woh issliye kyunki ladkiyan hi bachon ko paida karti hai, toh tumhaara yahaan kya kaam?' she looked at him.

'Ajeeb log ho yaar...yeh bhi koi baat bani kya?' he shook his head, as Rahul snorted.

'Chalo chalo...sab boys baahar ab,' she cried out as a pair of intoxicating eyes looked at her, n she felt a slow blush creeping up her cheeks.

As Rahul, Atul n the others vacated the little room, she saw him walking upto her.

'Are you sure tum mujhe baahar bhejna chahti ho?' he deliberately grazed his breath with her ear, n the expected result was her gasping.

'Armaan,' she slowly turned to look at him, when Anjali appeared.

'Ridzy, Armaan please,' she cried, 'Humein pata hai tum engaged n all ho lekin please kam se kam sab ke saamne toh nahi...'

Riddhima had never felt more embarassed as she shifted a few feet away from him, as he looked down with a soft smile on his lips.

'n now Armaan..what are you waiting for...? Jaldi kero humein yahaan bohot kaam hai...' she folded her arms.

'Anji, main actually soch raha tha ki,' he brushed his fingers in his hair as he walked upto her, 'Kyun na hum...'

'Nahi Armaan,' Anjali smiled at him, her best artificial one, 'Main jaanti hun tum kya chahte ho...lekin NO,' she mouthed it loud n clear n he made a cute puppy face.

'Pleaaasseeee,' he bent down on his legs, as he took hold of her legs, n folded his hands before her, nearly knocking her over.

'Armaan!!! Get off me, please...tum mere baal kharab kar rahe ho..' Anjali cried, as Riddhima stifled a smile n Armaan made a face.

'Ridzyyyy!!! ...HELP!!!' Anjali screamed, as Armaan let go off her n stood up, smiling fakely at the crowd that Anji had managed to create before them.

'Armaan,' Riddhima took hold of his hand, 'Kya tamasha hai yeh? chalo ab jaldi kero, nahi toh Naani bohot gussa hungi..'

'Riddhima please naa...' he pouted, leaning towards her.

'Armaan,' she chided, 'Jaoooo'

'Acha aik kiss...'

'Armaaaannn...'

'Riddhimaaaa...'

'Armaann...'

'Riddhima...''

'ARMAAN'

Hearing Padma's voice, he let go off her hand n walked out reluctantly.

'Nahi nahi nahi...Naani aap aaj humein woh kahaani suna rahi hain, n thats final,' Anjali looked at her grandmother, as she smiled from her wrinkles.

'Kya bachon,' her old voice was now shaky as she spoke, 'Abhi itne saalon baad bhi tumhaara mann nahi bhara? ...acha acha, sunati hun,' she rocked herself slightly on the chair, n then smiled as six pair of eager eyes, all of them sitting on the carpet before her, looked into hers.

The ceremony was one that Armaan hadnt enjoyed; simply coz he couldnt be there. But now, as he stole glances at Riddhima from the corner of her eye, his hand slowly creeping towards hers, he smiled.

'Bohot saal pehle...' Riddhima looked at him as she felt him touch her hand. Thankfully for them, they were sitting at the back from everyone else, n so when he clasped it tight into his, she let him do so.

'Ek rajkumaar tha...jiske liye sabhi ek sundar si rajkumaari dhund rahe the...' her eyes were half closed, as she mumbled. Totally unaware of what was happening before her eyes, she didnt even notice when Armaan snuggled closer to Riddhima, making her face turn all shades of red.

'phir nani...?' she heard Armaan ask, as his fingers now brushed against her arm, his eyes looking straight at her face, taking in her heavenly fragrance, as she shut her eyes tight, n gasped.

'Bade bade khaandanon se uske liye rishta aaya, par rajkumaar ko koi pasand na aayi...' Riddhima was losing her senses slowly as Nani's words reached her ears, but to know effect. As his fingers lingered over her shoulder, n then to her neck, she shifted all of her weight on to him, her head now resting on his shoulder as they sat.

'Aise kayi hafte guzar gaye, aur phir ek din unke mehel mein Ajmer ki rajkumaari ki khabar pahunchi...' Nani continued, 'Jab rajkumar ne suna ki duniya mein usse zyaada khoobsurat aur koi pari nahi, tab unhone turant use dekhna chaha...'

As his lips lightly brushed over her ear, Riddhima suddenly let go off him, n ran outside the room. He looked at her wander off to the terrace, n smiling slightly, he got up from there n followed her.

The terrace was adjacent to the room, n from the window they could hear Nani ramble the love story of the prince n princess. The whole house was adorned with streaks of light, inside out, n it flashed in the night sky. As Armaan made soft steps towards her, she had her back to the door, her hands pressed against the railing of the terrace.

As his fingers reached her neck, Riddhima shut her eyes tighter, n when they slowly opened the knot to her choli, she breathed heavily. He was looking down at his hands on the small of her back, she was centimeters apart, her hair making him lose his senses.

'Armaan,' the dori of the blouse came undone, as she moaned. While Naani talked about how they fell in love, Armaan bent lower as his breath tickled her senses. She was arousing the craziest feelings in him, n no longer could he keep himself from her.

'Wah chori chori har raat mehel ke verandah mein mila karte the...kabhi woh usko chedta, kabhi chidata, kabhi koi daastan sunata...aur woh khil kar hass padti thi,'

Her family was in the next room, n here she was so close to her fiance of twelve days, hardly able to think anything. Her mind had stopped working long since, n all that she knew now was the fact that she loved this man more than anything, n she trusted him. She could go to any extent for him for he meant everything to her. The manner in which he slowly closed in the distances, lightly pulling her to himself, she wondered how in the world could anyone love her so much. Love her without any limits or boundaries...what had she done to get a someone like him...it all seemed too good to be true, the fact that she was his, now n forever was too overwhelming for her to take in, but when she slightly opened her eyes to peep into his, not once did she doubt his love, n moving closer to him, she felt his fingers on her back, tying the knot to her blouse.
