Part 49

Breakfast was on in full swing at the Shekhawat's. The whole family had descended down to Jodhpur. Sharon's cousins too had started coming. The whole palace was hustling with people. Amidst so many people Sharon and Taani had managed to find a quiet place to sit and chat.

Taani: Toh abh batayiye kya baat karni thi aapko?

Sharon: Yahan ho kya raha hai?

Taani: Kya matlab? Aapki aur bhai ki sagai ki preparations shuru hai aur kya?

Sharon: But itni grand?

Taani: Bhabhi yeh humari family ki first shaadi hai. Grand hona toh banta hai!

Sharon: Yeh shaadi shaadi bolke mujhe aur nervous mat karo tum sab. And engagement itni grand hai toh shaadi kitni hogi?

Taani: Bhabhi relax!

Sharon: I wish I could.

Taani heard Vishesh calling out for her.

Taani: Bhabhi mein aati hoon.

Sharon: Sab mujhe akela chodke jao!

She said to no one in particular and in return she heard, "Isiliye toh mein yahan aaya hoon, tumhare saath rehne!"

Sharon: REY?

She excitedly turned around to find Rey smiling ear to ear at her. She ran to him and gave him a tight hug. She felt really happy to know that now there was someone with whom she could openly talk to. Not that she couldn't talk to Taani, but there was a different level of comfort she shared with Rey.

Sharon: Tum yahan kab aaye? I'm so happy!

Rey: Mujhe pata chala ki tum yahan lonely feel kar rahi ho and how could I let my best friend feel lonely? So here I am!

Sharon: I love you Rey.

Vishesh: Love story mein villain ki entry?

Sharon and Rey didn't notice Taani, Vishesh and Swayam approaching them. Rey gave a confused look to Vishesh while the other three laughed at his silly comment.

Taani: Yeh villain nahi cupid hai bhai aur bhabhi ki love story mein.

Vishesh: Ohh I see. So, Mr. Cupid mind fixing me up with her?

He pulled Taani to him by her waist. This action made Rey's blood boil but there was no reaction on Taani's face. She was just giggling away.

Swayam: Rey you made it here.

He half smirked at Rey which caught Taani's attention.

Rey (smirking): Yeah!

Taani: Guys andar chalte hai bohot kaam baaki hai.

Swayam: Tum log chalo. Mujhe Rey se kuch baat karni hai.

Taani: Bhai aap?

Swayam: Taani andar jao.

Vishesh: Taani tum chalo yaar. We have loads to talk about! Inko jo baat karni hai karne do.

Vishesh dragged her in and Sharon followed them wanting to give Rey and Swayam privacy to talk.

Swayam: So Rey yahan kaise aana hua?

Rey: Kal mujhe ek call aaya saying my best friend is missing me so mein chala aaya.

Swayam: Are you sure koi aur wajah nahi hai?

Rey: I won't lie saying no.

Swayam:  I'm really sorry.

Rey: Chal be saale abh overdramatic mat ban.

Swayam: But seriously thanks for coming. Tu nahi aata toh mein apne aap ko kabhi maaf nahi kar pata. Mein gusse mein kuch jyada hi bol gaya.

Rey: Swayam you need to stop before I go back. Kal raat se same cheezein sunke mein pak gaya hoon.

Swayam: Okay. But just one last question.

Rey: It better be good!

Swayam: Tune sara blame khud pe kyun liya?

Rey: Dekh, Taani pe tu already gussa tha ki voh mere ghar aayi thi aur agar tujhe yeh pata chalta ki vo uske choice se aayi thi toh tu aur gussa ho jata and I didn't want her to face your anger. Already voh upset thi. Mein usse aur upset nahi dekh sakta tha.

Swayam: Thanks.

Rey: Tu phir shuru ho gaya! Mein ja raha hoon isse pehle ki tu mujhe pagal kar de.

Rey went in to find Taani and Vishesh sitting together and laughing continuously. If he would have been in a cartoon right now, smoke would be coming out of his nose and ears. He couldn't stand the sight in front of him and decided to interrupt them.

Rey: Taani, tum mujhe mera room bataogi?

Taani: Aap yahin baithiye na humare saath. Aapke bags mein upar bheejwa deti hoon. Vishesh kuch ideas de raha hai for..

Rey interrupted her.

Rey: I actually wanted to freshen up.

Vishesh: Sharon bhabhi.

He called out for Sharon who was walking past them.

Sharon: Bhabhi?

Vishesh: Aap Taani ki bhabhi ho toh meri bhi hui na? Aap Rey ko uske room tak leke jaogi please?

Sharon: Why the hell should I?

Vishesh: (To Taani) I was right. Poori teekhi mirchi! (To Sharon) Kyunki yeh aapke friend hai isiliye.

Rey: Sharon chale?

Controlling his anger, Rey walked out with Sharon. Sharon understood his grumpy behavior and smirked inwardly at the thought that crossed her mind.

Sharon: This Vishesh is too much. Jabse aaya  hai Taani se chipka hua hai. Be careful haan.

Rey: Go and tell him to be careful. Agar phirse Taani ke close dikha toh I swear mein uska kuch kar dunga! Aur vaise yeh baat tu Swayam ko jaake bol na. Mein Taani ke saath hota hoon toh mujhe aise dekhta hai jaise ki mein koi criminal hoon. Iss se usko koi problem nahi ho rahi?

Sharon: Vaise uska naam Vishesh hai. Anyways, Swayam se baat hui? He was way too pissed off at you.

Rey: Haan voh sab sort hogaya. Thanks to you.

Sharon: Me?

Rey: Haan, usne kuch kaha nahi but I think you did calm him down.

Sharon: Well, you're welcome! And here's your room. Aur ek important baat.

Rey: Kya?

Sharon: Tumhare baju wala room Taani ka hai.

Sharon left winking at him. Rey ruffled his hair looking at the adjacent door and went inside his room.

In the evening, Rey, Sharon, Swayam, Taani, Vishesh and some of their cousins had gathered in Taani's room and were discussing the upcoming engagement. The girls, except Sharon, were trying out their lehengas and taking everyone's views on them. The boys were lying idly on the bed and were just passing comments on everyone's clothes. Ishita, Taani's youngest cousin came out wearing a baby pink lehenga.

Ishita: How do I look?

Swayam: You look good.

The other boys appreciated her dress as well.

Ishita: Rey, aapne kuch kaha nahi?

Rey (awkwardly): You look pretty in it.

Ishita: Thanks.

Ishita was in her late teens and had developed an instant crush on Rey from the moment she saw him.

Taani (to Rey): Pretty haan?

Rey smirked as he understood what that meant and continued just to make Taani more jealous.

Rey: In fact the colour is really suiting you. I feel you should always wear pink.

Ishita: 

Swayam: Rey, behen hai vo meri. (He said sternly.)

Rey: Sharon, how? How do you bear him?

Sharon: 

Taani (thinking): Rey aur bhai normally baat kar rahe hai. Iska matlab? I'm so happy sab theek hogaya. But yeh flirting bohot mehengi padne wali hai.

Vishesh: Taani, tum apna lehenga nahi try karogi?

Taani: Nahi vo mein baadmein karne wali thi.

She didn't want Rey to see her in her lehenga.

Ishita: Di aapko try karna hoga. Sharon bhabhi nahi kar rahi yeh hum samajh sakte hai but you have to.

Abhinav : Yes Taani you have to!

Vishesh: Chalo ab maan bhi jao.

She looked at Rey and the look on his face told her that he wanted her to dress up.

Taani: Okay okay. I'll try it now.

Taani picked up her lehenga and went to change. Rey's eyes were glued to the door. He was eagerly waiting for Taani to come out wearing the lehenga. Sharon smiled looking at the eagerness in his eyes but didn't disturb him. After a while, Taani came out wearing a dark blue lehenga. He scanned her from bottom to top, as if making a permanent painting in his mind, and finally met with her eyes. The look of appreciation in his eyes was so overpowering that she shied away. Their trance was broken by a loud whistle.

Vishesh: Wow! Taani you look.. hot! Toh bata mom and dad ko rishta leke kab bheju?

Swayam: Vishesh. (In a warning tone.)

Vishesh: Come on Swayam, iss jhalli ko aise dekhne ke baadmein aur kya keh sakta hoon?

Taani gave a murderous look to Vishesh and turned to look at Rey who had turned red due to anger. She gulped down seeing the fierceness in his eyes. She tried to open her mouth but no voice came out.

Ishita: Vishesh bhaiyya aap meri di ke baare mein baat kar rahe ho and I won't tolerate such talks.

Sharon: Taani tum jao change kar lo and we'll leave. Tum rest karna subah se bas kaam kiye ja rahi ho. Chalo people bahar niklo sab!

Sharon moved everyone out of her room. She didn't want Rey to lose his temper. Taani changed and sat on her bed. She was feeling scared. She didn't want things to go wrong. The only thing coming in her mind was Rey's fierce face. She heard a knock on her door and saw Rey coming in. He got in and locked the door. This scared her even more as anger was completely visible in his eyes.

Taani: Reyy.. (was all she could manage to say)

Rey: I'm relieved that at least you remember my name, warna jabse aaya hoon meri taraf ek baar dekha bhi nahi hai tumne.

Taani: Aisa nahi hai Rey. Mein bhai ki wajah se. Mujhe nahi pata tha ki aapke aur bhai ke beech sab sort out hogaya tha. I swear I wasn't ignoring you.

Rey: Hey.. hey.. hey stop crying. Mein mazak kar raha tha. I'm in no way angry at you.

Taani: Pakka aap mujhse naraz nahi hai na?

Rey: Bilkul bhi nahi bas ek baat hai.

Taani: Kya?

Rey: Tum engagement pe vo lehenga nahi pehen rahi ho.

Taani:  Kyun? Mein usme atchi nahi lag rahi hoon? Yaa phir aap darr gaye ki koi aur mujhe pasand na kar le?

Rey: Kisi aur ka toh pata nahi par uss Vishesh ne tumhare saath ek aur baar flirt karne ki koshish ki toh mein usse chodunga nahi!

Taani: Are you jealous Rey?

Rey: Mein kisi aire gaire se jealous nahi hota! Voh toh tum hoti ho.

Taani: Kya matlab?

Rey: Kyun jab meine Ishita ko compliment kiya tabhi tum jealous nahi hui thi?

Taani: Aisa kuch nahi hai aur aap please uske saath flirt mat kijiye..

Rey: And then you say you aren't jealous!

Taani: Shut up! Mein bas keh rahi hoon because voh abhi bachchi hai. Don't mislead her.

Rey: And you don't mislead your mom.

Taani: Huh?

Rey: Haan! Mein abhi sunke aaya hoon. Tumhari mom Swayam ki mom ke saath baath kar rahi thi about you and that moron Vishesh. Aunty ko mein dikhta nahi hoon kya? Pehle voh Cheevam and now this moron!

Taani: Mumma kya? Mujhe unse baat karni hogi.

Rey: No no please don't. Pata nahi iss baar tum unse jaake kya kaho.

Taani: Rey that was a mistake. Aap aise?

Rey: Atcha buhba sorry.

He held his ears with a slight pout on his face. Taani removed his hands from his ears cuddled in his arms. They both sat in comfortable silence. Rey was absent mindedly playing with her fingers.

There was a knock on the door which woke them up. Unknown to each other they had drifted off into a sound sleep.

Naina: Taani? Beta darwaaza kyun band hai?

Taani: Oh shit mumma! Rey aapko jana hoga.

Rey: Kaise jau? Yahan toh window ke bahar pipe bhi nahi hai.

Taani: Aap bathroom mein jayiye. Wahan ek door hai jo aapke bathroom mein khulega. Go fast!

Rey: So our bathrooms are connected? (He smirked.)

Taani: Rey stop your imagination and just go! Mein door open karne jaati hoon.

Naina: Itni der kyun lagi tumhe darwaza open karne ko?

Taani: Voh mumma mein so gayi thi.

Naina: Khair vo sab chodo. Tumne Rey ko kahin dekha hai?

Taani: Rey ko? Nahi toh. Kyun?

Naina: Uski maa ka phone aaya tha. Voh keh rahi thi ki Rey phone nahi utha raha.

Taani: Kuch kaam tha kya unhe?

Naina: Nahi bas inform karna tha ki kal voh sab aa rahe hai. I mean tumhare friends aur voh.

Taani: Ohh. Mein Rey ko bata dungi. Aap tension mat lo.

The next day Rey's parents and the team arrived. The chaos increased ten folds with their arrival. People were just running around to check on all arrangements as only a day was left for the engagement. The team was assigned work as soon as they stepped into the palace. They were more than excited to do it considering it was the first engagement amongst them. Rey kept intentionally bumping into Taani to see her irritated face which he had grown an instant liking to.

Juhi: Yahan chal kya raha hai?

She found Rey grinning and walking backwards caring a plate full of flowers. He jumped a little hearing her voice.

Rey: Engagement ki tayari. (Hiding his smile.)

Juhi: Really? Do I look that dumb to you?

Rannvijay: Chodo na Juhi When he is not interested in telling us about her, toh hum bhi kyun iske peeche pade?

Rey: Dad aap emotional blackmail mat karo. And I'll tell you about her after the engagement. I promise.

Rannvijay: What if you don't?

Rey: I promise dad that I will. But now spare me!

So I'm done.

Just one last part left, then we can all mourn over it. Cut it no one's gonna mourn.
