Part Eighteen

 

 The construction had begun on New Sanjeevani. Nikita was assigning the committees with the new interns. Each group had their own duties in the medical camp nearby and then they would discuss how to plan certain areas of the hospital and report back to Abhimanyu or Nikita.

 

 Nikita and her  friends were all now doctors. One day Abhimanyu came to see her. He stopped short to see Nikita guiding a student on a certain procedure.

 

He  stayed in the doorway of the room. This was to be the virtual learning classroom. For now the  walls were up, they just needed the equipment and a door for it. His parents had just called. They had dates ready for their engagement and wedding. He was eager to tell her.

 

 When he noticed another intern named  Krishna was headed Nikita's way, he  grew jealous. Krishna was new, but he had a way of charming girls. He interceded  and tapped Nikita on the shoulder.

 

" Excuse me Krishna, I need to borrow Dr. Nikita for a few minutes," he said with clenched  teeth.

 

Nikita smiled brightly.

 

" Krishna I am sorry. I have some important work with Dr. Abhimanyu. I will try to talk you later about your case," she stated pleasantly.

 

 Krishna smiled knowingly and headed over to grab his stuff.

 

 Nikita turned to face Abhimanyu.

 

" Janab bade jealous hore the aaj," she teased. ( You were feeling jealous right then  weren't you?)

 

 He rolled his eyes.

 

" Come on Nikki I have to tell you some good news," he declared.

 

" Theek hai baba bolo, kya hai?"

 

" My parents have gotten dates for the enagagement and  wedding," he declared.

 

 She smiled.

 

" That's great. Lekin tumare koi bhai, bhen ya cousin aagayene ki nahin?" ( Will any of our siblings or cousins come?")

 

 Abhimanyu turned grave.

 

" My sister we are  trying to track her down. She works for the government. If she contacts before next week perhaps she can come. The problem is my cousin Avianish, his wife is just too much make up and attitude," he declared.

 

 She put an assuring hand on his arm.

 

" Don't worry, I can  take care of her.  I just hope your sister can come. What is her name anyway?," Nikita inquired.

 

 Abhimanyu smiled.

 

" Simiran. She is very cute, that's probably why she does what she does. Anyone looking at her cannot tell her intelligence. She always walks away after giving the whole room a  shock," he stated.

 

 Nikita smiled.

 

" I can't wait to meet her. Let's go eat. I am  starving now," she  declared.

 

He offered her his arm and she linked hers in his. They went off to eat at their favorite caf.

 

 The day of engagement arrived. Nikita wore a lavender lengha with a sliver necklace, Suman said that Simiran had sent it. Simiran had heard about her brother's upcoming wedding and  wanted her Bhabhi to have something of hers.

 

Sheena, Aviansh's wife commented that Nikita should have not worn the necklace, but worn something from her parents.

 

 Nikita froze up not sure how to explain to Sheena of why this couldn't have been possible. Suddenly Suman came back into the room with her husband and a younger girl. Abhimanyu walked in behind them beaming with pride.

 

Sheena rolled her eyes at how much attention the girl was getting and went back to stand away from Nikita.  Atul, Anjali, Rahul and Muskaan were running late. Meanwhile Armaan and Riddhima  were away for a medical camp with their students.

 

Nikita  realized who this girl must be and it was confirmed soon enough.

 

" Bhabi I am so happy to meet you ! Mom, Dad and especially Abhi Bhaiya have  told me so much about you!"

 

Simiran hugged her and then gave a cold stare at Sheena.

 

" Vaise thanks for wearing the necklace I sent. I saw it in this nice shop on of my trips and knew it was meant for you!," she declared.

 

Sheena squirmed with jealously.

 

Nikita  felt relieved. Simiran had saved her some discomfort. She even felt better when her friends arrived. If she had all of them for company she didn't have to get disgusted with Sheena and  cause a scene. After she was officially Mrs. Abhimanyu Modi she could find plenty of ways to  deal with Sheena. She just didn't want her in-laws or Abhimanyu to be embarrassed with their other relatives present.

 

 Everyone clapped when the rings were exchanged.

 

 She blushed as everyone egged Abhimanyu on to kiss her as he placed the ring on her  finger.  He quickly placed a peck on her cheek.  Her smile grew brighter much to Sheena and her gang's distain.

 

 

Later Simiran took Nikita aside.

 

" Nikita Bhabi, I must say  I am proud of you. You didn't let Sheena  create a scene here today. However after hearing about what you put Abhi Bhaiya through in the past, I am sure you and I can plant some nice jokes on Ms. Sheena Modi in the near future," she  declared.

 

 Nikita smiled.

 

" Yes Simiran, I didn't want to hurt the feelings of the ones who are truly genuine in this family.  Don't worry , I will not back down  next time," she promised.

 

 They both enjoyed talking about girl stuff for a bit before Sheena said she had some work but would try coming back for the wedding.
