Chapter 16
Abhimanyu and Nikita headed back to his place after seeing off her friends.
" I am glad that now we are all going to be cool with each other," he stated as they entered his kitchen.
Nikita smiled.
" Yes now we can enjoy everything that comes along. Also I wanted to say I am sorry for letting them be so rude to you before my accident," she stated solemnly.
Abhimanyu took her hand in his.
" Your accident shook me enough to make me realize I was wrong too. Even if you made a mistake, you tried to clear things up. It was me that was too stubborn. You could have died but I am glad you fought to live," he stated.
She caressed his cheek with her other hand.
" Dekho Abhi jo ho chukka usse bhul jao. Let's move on with life," she stated.
He nodded and started to look around what they would need to cook dinner with. Eventually they started cooking. Sometimes he would sneak glances at her. She looked cute in her half up and half down look.
The door bell rang just as Nikita was finishing the parnathas.
" I'll get the door. You can stay here," he stated firmly.
She smiled slightly and continued her work.
Ajay and Suman Modi arrived ad were delighted to see how their only son kept his home.
" You made your mother proud., You actually decorated this place nicely," his father commented.
Suman looked at the place lost in thought.
" You sure it wasn't her who decorated it?," she inquired.
" Nahin Aunty, yeh sab Abhi ne kiya hai," Nikita stated.
Abhimanyu turned around to look at her. He smiled at her blushing with three pairs of eyes in her direction.
" Lekin khana banana mein, Nikki master hai," he declared.
Suman smiled.
" Toh tum kya kare the itni dere tak?"
It was his turn to smile.
" I was her assistant of course. Now Mom, Dad you both have a seat, we'll serve you in a few moments," he stated.
The foursome had a great meal together. Abhimanyu's parents complimented Nikita's cooking skills. Later on Nikita left to clean up. A storm was brewing outside. Abhimanyu was talking with his parents when suddenly the lights went out.
" Main abhi candle leker aata hoon. Nikita is also afraid of the dark. Let me get her as well," he declared.
Abhimanyu found a candle and lighted it. He noticed Nikki was trembling near the sink and headed to be beside her.
" Nikki, it's ok," he whispered.
She embraced him. They stood like that for awhile when he realized his parents were still in the dark. Nikita stood beside him as he lighted a second candle and they both returned to the main room.
Suman decided to stay with Nikita while Ajay and Abhimanyu went to see if the generator could be turned on .
Suman helped her relax and talked with her about basic things. She noticed Nikita was saddened when she mentioned her parents but lightened up saying that with Abhimanyu and her friends getting along now she didn't feel so alone now.
Some time later the lights came back on and Abhimanyu decided to take Nikita home. His mother took Nikita's cell number before they left.
Abhimanyu grabbed one of his jackets for Nikita to wear since it would be cool and wet outside now.
Suman and Ajay were peering outside the window as their son placed the jacket around Nikita's shoulders.
" They look so cute together Ajay! Main apne beta ke liye bauth khush hoon aaj!"
" Same here Suman. Nikita is a very nice girl."
As they got into the car, she was lost in thought. Would his parents accept their relationship? Her parents had left her side awhile ago,. His parents seemed like they were really caring. She really wanted to a part of their family. Before she knew it they were at her place.
She realized she had forgotten a few things at his place.
" Abhi I forgot a few things at your place..," she trailed off.
He smiled as he cupped her chin.
" Let it be there. Vaise ek din tumhe wahan mere paas toh aane hai," he whispered.
She blushed hoping his words would come true.
He walked her to the door a few moments later, giving her a flying kiss on his way out. She stood there motionless for a moment before turning around to unlock her door.
