Part Seven  

 

He had decided. Today was the last day, either they would get into a relationship today, or else part ways forever, he couldn't avoid her, but he would never look at her with those eyes again if his plan failed tonight.

He hadn't planned anything, it was just an age old tactic which he had seen in so many hindi films, why not try a cinematic way to solve his problem, he knew he was not being practical, but he hadn't got anything so far in this case from being practical, so he had decided the previous night to try it out.

 He broke eye contact with her as soon as possible and got doing his own work, ie avoiding her. He talked  to all and sundry but didn't look her way even once, she was missing his attention on the other hand.

What was with him? He was behaving kiddish now she thought to herself, the chat resounded in her mind of yesterday. He was being stubborn but she was not less she tried avaoiding him too, but realized that she  was being silly too, she just couldn't decide what she wanted in life and so ego's laid apart she headed in his direction to strike a conversation with him and she started

 

"Hi Rajveer"

 

He was at the bar at that time

 

"Hi Naina"

 

That was all that he said and he turned the other way around and concentrated on his drink

 

"Rajveer, why are you doing this to us"

 

Now he had had enough

 

"Me, is it me  who is doing everything, fine then from today it will be back to old days, when we were strangers to eachother, you lived without me those days, so just press the rewind button and get back in time"

 

And he just got up and moved away, she was too shocked, what was happening? She thought

 

As the night went on she kept glancing in his direction, she kept thinking of what Sonali said, did she really love him or not. It wasn't fair to her at all, one night was not enough. She was in complete turmoil.

The clock struck 12, it was getting late, she thought, soon their relationship would be over

It wasn't fair at all, she wanted to be with him, she thought of all the past memories, how he had taken her to those rocks spoken to her, gave her advice, how he had played with her at the beach, forgetting her real age, she realized how  she loved his company, she loved his talks, she loved Him. Finally she had got her answer, as her feelings surfaced finally, she had finally decided . She really did love him, he had affected her so much, his words, his ultimatum, had made so much of a difference, cud it be anything but love, surely not.

 

And as she headed to tell him that she did get a shock of her life, Rajveer was dancing with Ritu way too close, way way too close, they were inches apart, dancing to a slow romantic number, her happiness was short lived. She saw them in a distance enjoying themselves, laughing at some joke Ritu had cracked. Naina was shattered.

 

She ran out of the venue and started walking up the sea front, the hotel was at juhu, and she started walking up the famous juhu beach, there was no one at this time of the night. Only her and her loneliness, she had been a fool, thought way too long, and he was already with another female, enjoying himself. What was his fault, he was a man after all, and Ritu she was desirable… oh Naina just wished she would have been a little faster then at  this very  moment she would have been with Rajveer in his arms. The thought sent butterflies up her tummy. She had been a fool and there was no doubt in that

 

Earlier that night, after ignoring her, he wanted to make her jealous, that was his last plan, if that failed then she never did love him, and he would be ok with that, he had prepared himself for the worst, but still hoped for the best, but whom would he make her feel jealous with, and suddenly a thought struck him, in the form of Ritu

 

And he ran upto her

 

"Hey Ritu, I need a favour"

 

"Sure, anytime, what is it"

 

"Actually….. hmmm…. I actually…… have aa… have certain feelings  for Naina"

 

He spoke up with a lot of hesitation

 

And to his amazement Ritu just smiled

 

"Did you think I was blind Rajveer, everyone has been noticing the special bond developing between you and Naina"

 

"Really"

 

"Offcourse, now what do you want with me?"

 

"Well actually she hasn't yet confessed her feelings  for me, she just seems to deny the fact that there is something called love between us"

 

"Hmmm…."

 

"And so today is going to be the last day, either she confesses or we never see eachother again, and so I need her to realize that she loves through something called jealously"

 

"Hmmmmmm…. (Ritu suddenly looked dumbstruck) no ways Rajveer, I am not doing anything to hurt Naina"

 

"Ritu listen to me, its not going to hurt her, its only going to help her decide what she wants"

 

"Rajveer I am just not sure about this, there can be another way"

 

"No there isn't, please Ritu"

 

"Ok.. fine… how do we make Naina feel jealous"

 

"A close dance"

 

He said this with a smirk, he was doing it the total filmy style, but he didn't care, he wanted her and this was his last chance, reluctantly Ritu said a yes and they waited for the right song to play

During this time Rajveer looked at Naina a couple of times, she looked completely lost and to her self, she looked hot and desirable, he just felt like running up to her crushing her into him and giving her a tight hug  and a  passionate kiss, but no, it was not the time, he didn't even know if that time would come, but his gut feel said that she would land up in his arms tonight. A nudge in his ribs brought him back to reality and soon he and Ritu took to the dance floor, they pretended to be lost in eachothers eyes, Rajveer told Ritu strictly that she shouldn't look in Naina's direction, and he too avoided looking at her, he just hoped that she looked at the pair of them dancing, she was in her own world and if she didn't look at them then this dance with Ritu would be a complete waste, in between he stole a glance at naina thru Ritu's hair and was thrilled to find naina staring at them with a shocked expression, the dance got over and they stayed with eachother for a few more moments, if naina was still looking she shouldn't feel that they were acting

After a while Rajveer spoke up to Ritu

 

"Thanks Ritu"

 

"No problem Rajveer, anytime for you and Naina, just enjoy yourself now"

 

And as Rajveer turned he scanned the entire hall, she was no where to be seen maybe she was in the washroom and so he waited for a few more minutes and when she didn't come out he started thinking, where could she go, on an impulse he ran out and looked around, and movde in the direction of the beach to his relief he saw a shadow walking on the sand, he couldn't make out if it was Naina or not but it was definitely a woman, took a guess and ran for her

 

Naina was surprised to hear heavy breathing, she turned around and was even more shocked to see Rajveer running towards her, once he reached her he caught up with his breath, and she started talking

 

"What are you doing here?"

 

"What do you think ill be doing here Naina"

 

"Hmmm… I don't know… why don't you go back and enjoy another dance with Ritu"

 

Her voice was full of sarcasm

 

"Oh ho, so someone is jealous out here"

 

She gave him a dirty stare and continued walking

 

"I always thought that anyone who feels jealous is envious, but I cant find a reason for you being jealous"

 

"Rajveer just leave me alone"

 

He just disregarded her last comment and continued

 

"Did I hear you say something about Ritu, yeah me and ritu dancing, but why should you feel jealous of that, I jus cant find a reason"

 

"It was so easy for you, wasn't it? To move from one girl to another, it was just yesterday that you told me that you loved me, didn't you, and now you are with Ritu as if she is your girlfriend"

 

"Why shouldn't I be with Ritu? You refused me outright didn't you, we were just friends, aren't we?"

 

"Forget it Rajveer, I don't want to have this conversation with you, after seeing you with Ritu like that, I just don't  want to think about that, I was even re considering our relationship, I had just found out that I was in love with you"

 

And she bit her tongue. She had made a huge blunder, oh god what could she do, she thought of the most insane thing ever and began running, running like a maniac, he caught up with her soon enough and caught her wrist.

 

"What did you just say Naina?"

 

Her eyes were downcast, she didn't want to confess again, but he was in no mood to give up. He slowly lifted up her face by placing his palms on either side of her cheeks

 

"I love you Rajveer"

 

Those words meant a lot to him

 

"I love you too Naina"

 

And he crushed her into him, finally they were together. And happy in eachothers arms.

Naina had finally found solace in his arms. They were happy to be this way, with eachother, Naina was happy that it was Rajveer and no one else and she hoped that it always stayed that way . that they always stayed  Together. After a long time they broke apart and looked into eachothers eyes, there was content in them.

 

They soon sat on the sand and lay there, with their hands held tight, he told her everything about his plan. The filmy plan, which had worked finally, so Hindi films were not that insane after all, she couldn't figure out if she should be happy or upset at the way both Ritu and Rajveer had fooled her but soon realized that  she was way to happy to get upset with anyone. And later on that night they headed home,  they were satisfied.

 

She had entered the Indian subcontinent, and their descent had begun, it would be no time and she would be back to Bombay, the city that had given her everything and had taken a lot back too,  when she had left that place, Prachi was inside her, she couldn't even feel her at that time, she didn't even know if her child  would survive, but had left her everything for the sake of her child, it was after all her flesh and blood, and now Prachi was with her, she was not as tensed getting back into Bombay as she was when she was leaving it, at that time, she had been an unwed mother, she didn't care about people talking but she had no experience about mother hood, how would she ever bring up her kid, those were horrid memories.

 

Sonali was coming to pick her up, she just hoped that he would not find out, she just had work of a few days and she was heading back, never wanting to look back at that city again, at times she did feel that she was being foolish running away, her poor kid was denied a father's love and presence, was Naina too was selfish, those thoughts tormented her.
