A tear rolled down her cheek as she collapsed on the floor of the room. She looked up at the large portrait of her newly wed husband and burst into tears. She couldn’t believe she now has a life where all she has to do was breathe and not live. Fake a laughter and not smile genuinely, pretend not to love, but actually in love with him. Within the four white washed walls, she was going to be a mere stranger with her husband.

Yes! That’s Ishana Mehta, now Ishana Singh Oberoi's life. She recoiled at the thought the man whose existence in her life she regretted. Now she was stuck in a marriage with the same egotistic heartless Omkara Singh Oberoi.

At first, she thought he was a soft spoken, kind-hearted gentleman. But no, he was an enigma within enigma itself.

"I know you married me for money. So divorce me after six months and take all you want," she could still feel his grip on her arms, hurting, biting.

Sub-consciously, she raised her hand to caress the bruise that she knew she would find on her arms if she looked.

Yes, she had tried to con him, but when Omkara proposed to her, she thought he was the one. She dreamt of a life with him, with trust, with compatibility and with love. She felt like nothing and no one could really harm her as long as he was with her.

But she was wrong. He was the one from whom she needed protection. Omkara Singh Oberoi was a storm that she stepped into.

"I hate you Ishaana and I hate the fact that I am stuck in this marriage with you."

He was stuck? Ishana scoffed. It was she who was stuck with him for 6 months, which were going to be equivalent to 6 births for her. Wiping her tears, she walked out of the mansion.

__________

Omkara walked inside the room tired of his family’s melodrama. He looked around trying to find his contract wife of six months. Last he saw her was when she crawled up like a ball on the floor, still wearing her wedding dress. Her eyes were closed but he knew she was crying, because her mascara and eyeliner were running. She looked like a mess.

He could never forget this marked fateful day in his and Ishana's life. He spoilt his own life. Reason? He got married to a gold digger. They were husband and wife in front of the world for six months. Well, she’s better than any girl Mr. Tej Singh Oberoi chose for him.

You talk about idealism, but today, I feel like you are no different from your father.”

She had said it with so much anger and annoyance that not even for once she had averted her blazing eyes from his.

But that didn’t do any better to their situation, it just angered him more.

How dare she compare him with Mr. Oberoi?

No, I am not like him, Omkara said to particularly no one. But where was Ishana? As if he cared!

________

She walked slowly, her foot steps measured; her feet carrying her in their own accord to the small courtyard outside the Oberoi mansion. The soft cold breeze blew gently her tresses. A faraway clap of thunder reverberated in the soulful chill of the wind and gathering darkness swept across the wide expanse of the sky. It felt like as angry grey clouds celebrated the union of rain.

The numbness that Ishana felt inside her could not be for the sole reason of the cold. She felt sickened, ill, almost nauseated. The vile words spoken with the splinted tongue of the demon haunted her every waking moment.

Where did it all began and where did it all end?

She couldn’t believe those words were said by the man- the very man she loved?

"With your second class mentality, girls like you will do anything to get what they want"

"You are a cheap opportunist who'll do anything to get what you want"

"You are a cheap gold digger"

"I don't even want to breathe the same air as you. I feel disgusted to even share the same room as you. Don't know how I'm going to survive these six months"

"You will never leave behind all the prospects offered for being Mrs Omkara Singh Oberoi. Money, comforts, status. Like a cheap gold digger, you are with me because of my wealth!"

Rain drops fell in torrents, she looked up and closed her eyes. She let the rain soak her frozen skin, now pouring down from the heavens above.

Why?

---

Omkara walked out of the house when his eyes fell on  the open courtyard. And there, right in the middle lying still and silent was a lone figure, sprawled on the ground.

"Ishana!" whispered Omkara as he ran through the courtyard, into the mantel of water pouring from the sky.

"Ishana! Ishana?" he shook her drenched body but she remained silent, her eyes fast shut and cold as a shard of ice.

"Shit!" he swore again, panic grappling him in torrents as he felt his own drenched cloths making his teeth chatter.

He lifted her up like a doll and rushed her inside trying to warm her as much as possible even while he carried her.

"Oh my goodness, what happened?" Annika screamed as Omkara carried Ishana inside and ran to their bedroom. He needed to get her off the rain drenched cloths as fast as possible.

Lying her on the bed, he hesitated for a moment before reaching for the zip closing the opening of her soaked bridal wear. He pulled his hands back.

"Bhabhi, can you please change her clothes?"

Annika turned around appraising, “She is your wife, Om.”

“Please, I’ll call the doctor.”

Omkara left the room.

After calling the doctor and ordering him to come immediately to attend to his wife, he sat on the steps of the semi darkened living room. He closed his eyes as pain and clenched his deranged heart. Would she go away from him? Would she be taken away from him? Is he going to suffer a life time of misery? Wait, why would he suffer if anything happens to her? Why was he hurt and scared so much seeing Ishana in that condition? Did she steal what Omkara Singh Oberoi thought he didn't have?

Had she stolen his heart or had he fallen in love with her a long time ago?

________
