Chapter 16
Chapter 16:
"Karan, why the hell are you making it so obvious, your not supposed to be doing that? Have you seen what a pathetic little officer she is…..she put my brother, K.K. Verma's brother in jail! I will make her pay, oh she eventually will!" K.K. roared with anger while Karan kept quiet, lost in his thoughts. "Karan are you even listening to a word I am saying? That girl has gone far beyond her limits not only professionally but personally as well, I will teach her how to respect others, and that is my promise!" K.K. said walking out of the room, his glide expressing his frustration and hatred towards the new officer.
What am I going to do now, how am I supposed to finish this work and still not harm….Karan trailed off in other thoughts, finding it harder than usual to not think about one individual. Perhaps if, but no he stopped that thought would never come true especially with someone like his brother K.K.! "Man if only life wasn't so complicated with an arrogant brother!" Karan blurted out to himself in frustration.

"Akash, do you think its possible to find any information about my father's case?" Manya asked just merely coming out of her thoughts. Akash turned to stare at Manya that was something he had been hoping she would not ask. Slowly he stuttered, "I'm sorry Manya, but family members are not allowed to rummage through previous cases linked to them!" I turned to stare at him, this was going to be complicated, perhaps if I had spoken to him in a much stronger voice. "Actually Akash, I know that no family member is allowed to do something of that sort, but if I keep it to a professional level don't you think its possible? I mean I am strong enough both physically and mentally; after everything that has happened in the last five months up to now, I am sure I can handle this, don't you think?" I spoke to him on a more personal basis hoping to find him falling prey for my new mind tactics.
"I'm sorry Manya, but this is just something we can't allow you; we can research for information but your word is very little in something that happened years earlier and well…" his voice trailed off as smoothly as he had started. "Actually Manya, I think you deserve this chance, something doesn't seem right and we both have dealt with that this week; surely enough there has to be something behind your father's case that someone would try and kill you for trying to gather any information possible!" his voice rang in a new enthusiastic trail. I smiled at him things were finally starting to work my way and I only had three days to figure out all the details and events linked to my father's death!
*****
Day 1 of the three days I had to finding my father innocent! As any other morning I walked out of my home, finding Ma and Dadu lying carefully in the living room while Rupa took care of them. I smiled it was great to have her around to take care of my family while I was off declaring justice! Walking out of my home, I immediately drove off for my new destination; the home of the old police cops who had once worked with my father for that one day!
"Namastey uncle, I am your fellow late police officer, Akshay Sharma's daughter, Manya Sharma!" I spoke introducing myself to a fat and chubby old aged man. As soon as the words slipped through my mouth, he backed off nodding his head as he allowed me in. "you know I would have never thought you'd have taken this line of occupation after what had happened to your father on day one, but the looks of it surprise me! Anyways what can I do for you, my child?" he asked strangely. I noticed the sudden sharp intake of breath, and watched him carefully from then on. Something about his sudden coldness was strong enough to alarm me that he knew more than what I would be asking.
"Firstly Uncle I would just like to ask you some questions involved with my father, I mean Sri Akshay Sharma's death; if that is okay with you?" I asked calmly and professionally. He eyed me one last before nodding quickly and turned his gaze towards a sudden object in the back of his house. Trying not to be rude, I kept my focus on him as I one by one asked him questions.
"First uncle, can you tell me exactly the details that had happened that day?" I spoke hoping to disguise my anxiety as nervousness. He didn't fall prey for that, instead he turned to look at me before he got up slowly and headed towards the back of the room grabbing the certain item he had been eyeing all along! "I think this will solve all your questions and as for Akshay he was a great and courageous man, no one would have dared to do what he had done, so please don't try and do anything out of the ordinary, just keep in mind you are the last of the family!" and with that he kicked me out of the house hoping that somehow his cold words would have sunk in by now.
But what did he know, he had just added to my suspicion, this old man knew much more than what I had been wanting to know, perhaps there were more who would help me with this, but as of now I was late for work! Finally ending my investigation for the day I drove off towards the police station where Akash was nearly bouncing off the chairs with some important details I suppose? "What is it Akash, you seem very um what's the word excited?" I asked confused. He laughed and pulled me into a bear hug unknowingly placing a kiss on my cheek. I backed off slightly mesmerized and uncomfortable. "Well I think we have a link to this case, earlier last night I went to meet someone who worked in this police station while uncle had just started his job, eventually both of them got close enough and I'm sure he witnessed the entire situation, he's fat and bald…his name was umm what was his name ah yeah Khan uncle!" I froze. He was the missing link.
"you're right Akash! He is the missing link to papa's case, I just met him…he was very well lets say reserved when I first approached him but as soon as I mentioned papa's and my name he went cold. And instead of providing any evidence strong enough he handed me this old newspaper, perhaps we can find something through this!" I said and froze. "Damn where'd I put the newspaper?" I rushed back towards my car, hoping to find it and there it lay underneath my bag, the newspaper, 18 year old newspaper that had evidence or something related to my fathers case! Akash walked in after me slowly and smiled….we would finally find justice!
*****
Day two; we only had these two days to find anything else about my father and something told me I wouldn't get far today! However tomorrow would be the big day when I hopefully unfold the entire truth. Thinking that I headed off to work, while driving off; a strange familiar black car tagged behind along with me. The driver couldn't make out, but whoever it was sure wasn't planning on going to the police station! But then again what am I here for? I smirked to myself and made a sharp turn.
