Location:
Pratapnagari: A small provincial state in Rajasthan. A mere kingdom which has only 5 villages under its reign. These 5 villages are Sadashivpur, Rudrapur, Maheshwarpur, Harapur ,Mahakaalpur. Even though it's been decades since independence the villagers still believe the royalty and the social hierarchy.
The Highest position in Pratapnagari is of the Royal family(The Rathores) They may not have any more administrative power of the state but the villagers still consider them as their rightful leaders.
The second high position is of The High Priest and High Priestess. The power vested by the high priestess is more than the high priest as this was a matriarchal position. The high priest was supposed to serve the royal family while the high priestess was supposed to maintain law and order in the absence of the high priest. And because of this reason the High Priest and Priestess were appointed by the much scrutiny and examination. The committee which appoints them are group of learned scholars and aides of previous Priest and Priestess. Only a married couple can become High Priest and Priestess.
The appointment of new priest and priestess can only happen on a special 'murutha' That is Mahatritiya. Only on Mahatritiya, can a priest or priestess or both can be relieved of their duties and pass it on to new couple. The coronation of priest and priestess will be done by the King and Queen.
'Mahatritiya' is also a big festival when 108 couples get married.
'Mahatritiya' happens only at every 21 years.
The royal family has practically abandoned the village.
The Grand Temple holds the power in the political affairs of the five villages.
The government and its organizations had little power there as the village strictly refused...
But 5 youngsters brought change and slowly Pratapnagari opened itself to the outside world. This is the story is set when the village is still in the process of evolving... the old enemies gain their power slowly and a new battle between traditionalism and modernisation begins.
While the previous war was fought by the villagers themselves, this time outsiders may also have to take up arms.
