Chapter 29
~29~
Anu was sitting propped up between his legs, leaning on his chest, reminiscing cheerfully the events of the day. Today was the 6th month anniversary of their wedding and her husband had made sure to make it really special. He had arranged a surprise party in the afternoon with their kids and Devika followed by a candlelight dinner in their balcony. He had also gifted her a china kettle set she had long coveted for. She couldn't help but recollect how often she had dreamt and wished for her husband to just wish her once during their special days without being reminded in her previous marriage. She lifted her hands and deftly removed the buttons of his shirt and gently grazed his chest with her fingers.
"Anuj...."
He nuzzled his nose against her ear.
"Hmmm"
"Thank you..."
He clicked his tongue and grazed his lips against her cheeks mumbling
"Wifey... you have thanked me almost a 1000 times today... enough now...."
She placed feather kisses on his chest.
"I want to confess something, Anuj... can I?"
He nodded not stopping his ministrations.
"I have always had a thing for special days... you know... got ready, beautified myself and all that.. when I was young I used to be so excited and I always wanted someone to celebrate my special days.... Childish, I know... but I loved it when someone would remember what those days meant to me..."
He stopped and looked at her.
"Not childish at all Anu..."
"But I never knew that before... Initially I used to dream for something to happen... but over time... I stopped even wishing. One dreadful year.... everyone forgot my birthday. Only Samar came home from school and wished me apologizing for being late... later that night when I confronted Mr. Shah.... he opened his wallet gave me some money and asked me to get something for myself and stop bugging him... That night I broke down in front of the washroom mirror... How did I ever become something like this? I decided however hard it maybe I would celebrate all my special days silently alone but never ever bother that man... He always had to be reminded by someone in the family about our anniversary too... I decided that day it wouldn't be me.... on some dark lonely days, I wondered if it was because I didn't deserve such celebrations... but now I know I do... don't I?"
In response, he rubbed his stubble against her cheek and she closed her eyes enjoying the soft tickle. He then gently let his fingers dance on her neck stopping at tender spots to give a little squeeze while he softly said
"Anu... you deserve to be celebrated... in every way... every day... every hour... of the year..."
She gave a contented sigh as his fingers dropped lower. Knowing they were bound to stray, she opened her mouth to say what she wanted to before he switched off her senses.
"I look forward to everyday every minute.... all because you made my life so beautiful, Anuj... I can never thank you enough..."
She leaned upwards and captured his lips with hers while her hand reached to his ears and fondled his lobes gently, just the way he loved. He moaned in pleasure
"Ah... now this is what I like better... wifey... you really need to put your mouth to better use often..."
She hit him playfully and he caught her arm, leaning forward, he lowered her onto the mattress making her feel cherished, loved and celebrated yet again.
