Chapter 3

“Mera hai yeh baccha!”

Raavi moved back in shock, Dev was taken aback, the family members were astonished . Rishita who was looking at Shiva with tears in her eyes digested what he has just said.

 Shiva didn’t wait for a second after that, he left the house without looking back. Rishita couldn’t control herself and ran inside her room, closing the door. And Raavi, she was too shocked to react. She walked aimlessly towards her room like a zombie.

“Gaumbi!” Dhara yelled. “Rishita isn’t in her room!”

“What?” Dev said as he walked inside the house. “Where did she go?”

“I don’t know Dev.”

“How can you not know?” he shouted. “You know she is pregnant. You should be taking care of her!”

“Dev, relax!” Gautam interrupted. “Agar Raavi ne sun lia toh aur museebat hojaye gi.”

Dev moved back but didn’t lower his tone. 

“Musibat hoti hai toh hone do, I give a damn. Mujhe bas meri wife chahiye.”

“Kya ho raha hai?” Raavi asked as she came out of her room. “Kya hua Dhara Di? 

“Raavi, pata nahi Rishita kahan chali gayi hai.”

“Kahin uske bacche k asli pita k paas toh nahi chali gayi?” Raavi wondered. 

“Enough Raavi!” Dev yelled. “Do you even hear yourself?”

“What is the matter with you Dev?”

“What is the matter with me? What is wrong with you Raavi? Tum Rishita k baare mein kya kuch bole aur soche jaa rahi ho?” 

“Main kuch galat nahi soch rahi, Dev. It’s her choice if she wants to keep her baby out of wedlock but I know that Shiva was lying.”

The family looked at her amazed. 

“For an instance, if you had said that it’s your baby that I might have had a second thought. But Shiva, he is not like this. He would never hide something like this from anyone. Agar Rishita sachme uske bacche ki maa banne wali hoti, toh wo abtak usse shaadi kar chuka hota.”

“Raavi tum…”

“I am not saying that I don’t trust you, I do. But I have seen something brewing between you and Rishita. You care about her more than me. You talk about her more than me. You know what, it wouldn’t even surprise me if you are revealed to be the father.”

Raavi said and marched into her room. Everyone gaped at her retreating figure.

“Yeh tuney sahi nahi kiya Shiva,” Rishita said as she and Shiva sat on a bench in the park. 

“Toh main aur kya karta Bhabhi? She was insulting you, I can never repay the favour you have done for us, but I can stop you from being insulted. I am sorry for whatever she said to you,” Shiva said and Rishita just looked at him blankly. “Let’s go home.”

“How will you face Raavi?” she asked as he stood up. 

“I don’t know.”

Raavi entered her room and stopped midway. She was shocked at her own words. When did she loose all the faith in Dev and started trusting Shiva so much? Did she really know Shiva better than Dev? What was happening to her? 

“I heard you defended me,” Raavi heard Shiva's voice. She didn’t know why, she was nervous to face him. 

She took a deep breath, turned back and glared at him raising her hand in a defensive manner, "Listen. Don't. Just don't bother."

After a long time, Shiva smiled seeing his nervous chipkali again. He just wanted to tease her and couldn't help but take big strides towards her but then it all happened suddenly and unexpectedly. He tripped forward onto Raavi who instead fell back the bed. Shiva fell over her. 

She gasped as she felt a hot breath on her neck then a tender brush of the lips where his breath just tickled her. Burning as they make contact with her skin, making way for a possible inferno. He felt a wave of pleasure running through his entire body, her natural scent intoxicating him. He pulled his face back, slowly opening his eyes but was unable to withdraw himself from the proximity with her. He finally mustered up the courage to look at her eyes to meet with an emotion he couldn't name. 

He so wanted to kiss her at that moment but he knew it wasn’t right. He got up from the bed and left the room without looking at Raavi. 

Fighting with her own feelings, Raavi looked at his retreating figure.

Raavi had made peace with Rishita living with them. Dhara had went with her to the doctor. Gaumbi and Dev were at the store. 

While cooking dinner, Raavi was lost on her thoughts again. Her heart was racing faster remembering the unexpected moments she spent with Shiva. 

All of a sudden she felt and saw a rat crawling over her feet. 

"Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh!"

Shiva flied to the kitchen, hearing Raavi scream. 

"Kidhar? Kidhar?" He asked frantically, looking at a Raavi sitting fully on the platform now, with her legs curled up, and the rolling pin clutched to her chest like a sword.

"Udharrr... Abhi abhi mere pairr k upar se gaya!" She let out a voice, which was a mix of squealing and screaming at the same time.

"Ruk jaa, abhi dekhta hoon issey," Shiva rushed to the direction she pointed in, removing one of the chappals he was wearing, and taking it in his hand.

"Aaaaahh! Wo raha! Wo raha! Wahan!" She pointed rolling pin at a corner of the kitchen. 

"Nahi! Wahan nahi hai! Chillanaa band kar!" Shiva shushed her. 

It was amazing how he could distinguish from her screams now, that which one was for a cockroach, which one for a lizard, and which one was for a rat.

But that didn't mean it made his life easier.

Every threat level came with its weariness. 

Today was the highest threat level, it was a rat!

He looked at her frightening face and smiled. She looked cute. 

But soon his ears were filled by those ear-piercing screams again, when she saw the dark-grey crawling creature, running in its fastest pace.

"Shivaaaaa! Shivaaa! It's coming towards me!" She ran towards him, with flailing hands.

Before he could judge anything, she had jumped on his arms.
