Chapter Sixteen

Rey is sitting in his room engrossed in deep thoughts. Swayam enters his room.

"Wassup?"

No response from Rey.

"Rey?"

"Ha..haan..?"

"Kahan kho gaye the?"

"Kuch nai?" Rey shook his head.

"Really?" Swayam asked raising an eye brow.

"Swayam agar koi ja raha ho aur peeche mud ke dekhe toh iska kya matlab hota hai?" Rey asked looking at him.

"Ahaan the famous 'Palat' moment. Iske bare mein itna kyun soch rahe ho? Chakkar kya hai? Kisne tumhari dil ki awaz suni aur palat ke dekha?" Swayam teased Rey.

"Usne dekha nahi yehi toh problem hai." Rey mumbles but Swayam heard it.

"Kisne?" he asked.

"What kisne?" Rey questioned.

"Kisne mud ke nahi dekha?"

"Mein generally puch raha hoon aur tum mere peeche kyun pade ho?" Rey said getting irriated.

"Rey what's the matter?" Swayam came to the point.

"Nothing." Rey avoided.

"Taani?" Swayam asked and Rey's head jerked his direction.

Rey remained silent.

"You like her right?" Swayam asked.

"No." Rey said sternly.

"Rey mujhse toh jhoot mat bol" Swayam protested.

"Mein jhoot nahi bol raha." Rey stated.

"Rey, I saw you adoring Taani from the window above the rehearsal hall. Agar tu usse pasand nahi karta toh vahan kya kar raha tha? Aur Taani ko aise kyun dekh raha tha?"

Rey remained silent as he was unable to make up something to justify his behavior.

"Will you just speak up! Chal kya raha hai? Tum keh rahe ho ki you don't like her but your actions are totally different! You spend most of your time with her, jab humare saath hote ho tabhi bhi ussi ki baate karte ho aur upar se keh bhi rahe ho ki you don't like her!" Swayam shouted at him.

"Yes, I like Taani! Happy now?" Rey replied in high tone while Swayam was shocked to see such a reaction from Rey.

"Toh apne aap se aur hum sab se jhoot kyun bol rahe ho?" Swayam asked calmly.

"Because I know I'm not the right one for her."

"What? Do you even know what are you saying?"

"Yes Swayam I do. Bachpan se aaj tak sirf ek hi ladki se pyaar kiya hai aur aaj Taani aayi toh I don't know how but I started liking her. You see, I'm not at all a trust worthy person. Aisa agar fir se hua toh?  Isiliye mein usse koi signs nahi dena chahata. I don't want to make her sad because of anything I do." Rey let out his heart to Swayam.

"Pehle toh get one thing clear, you are the most trust worthy person I have ever come across. And I mean it. Aur rahi baat Taani ki toh shayad aisa bhi ho sakta hai ki vo bhi tumhe like karti ho." said Swayam.

"That's impossible!" Rey said getting up from his bed.

"Why so?"

"Kyunki aaj jab meine usse bulaya toh usne mud ke nahi dekha." Rey pouted.

"Are you sure ki tum Rey ho aur koi aur nahi? Yeh konse zamaane ki baat kar rahe ho? Find out whether she likes you. If yes toh ek dusre ko ek chance do." Swayam persuaded him.

"Swayam I know that she doesn't like me and its better ki mein bhi uske jyada close na rahu. I don't want to lose my friendship." Rey was adamant.

"Par yeh baat toh sach hai ki tum Taani ko like karte ho?" Swayam asked Rey.

"Yes. But please tum kisiko mat batana." Rey pleaded.

"Don't worry Rey I won't" Swayam smiled at him and left.

Taani was sitting idle in her room thinking about the thought that came across her mind while coming home. Her thought process was broken by her phone. She looked at the screen and saw that it was her mom calling her.

"Hi mom." She said happily picking up the phone.

"Ahaan, aaj bohot khush sound kar rahi ho. Kya baat hai?" her mom replied.

"Aisi koi baat nahi hai." Taani answered blushing.

"Kaash mein wahan hoti tumhe aise blush karte huye dekhne.." Her mother let out a sigh.

"Mein blush nahi kar rahi!" She said pouting.

"Atcha buhba theek hai. Ab bataogi apni iss khushi ka reason?" she asked.

"Mom, vo mein..actually..the thing is.." Taani was finding for words to tell her mom.

"Who is he?" She asked directly sensing her tone.

Taani was dumbfounded. She knew her parents knew her too well but this well, it surprised her. She didn't know whether to tell her mom directly or not. She decided to take the second option.

"Mom aisa kuch nahi hai."

"Taani stop lying and tell me the truth. Now!" Her mom demanded.

"Rey." Taani could no longer hide it from her mom and confessed it to her.

"Meine toh pehle hi kaha tha bas tum hi mana kar rahi thi." Her mother said playfully.

"Okay mom listen, you're over-thinking. I just like him. And I know it's just me."

"Kya matlab?" Her mom asked back.

"Meine aapse kaha tha na ki Rey kisi aur se pyaar karta hai. So he doesn't like me." Taani told her.

"Kya usne khud tumse yeh sab kaha hai? Nahi na, then why are you assuming all this. It might be possible that he too likes you back." Her mom tried to make her understand.

"I don't know mom. But I know that I don't want to lose our friendship. So I won't let him come to know that I have feelings for him." Taani made her decision.

Her mom wanted to tell her to just talk it out to Rey but she knew her daughter too well. If Taani has decided that she won't confess so she won't, no matter what happens!

"Okay beta. But ek baar janane ki koshish karna Rey ke feelings ke baare mein. Aisa na ho ki tum dono ek dusre ko pasand karte ho aur kuch reasons ke wajah se batane se darr rahe ho."

"Theek hai mom. I'll try." Taani smiled.

"Your dad's here. Voh tumhe kuch batana chahate hain." She handed over the phone to her dad.

"Hey dad." Taani greeted him.

"Hello princess kaisi ho? Mujhe toh tum bhool hi gayi ho."

"Oh come on dad, mein aapko bhool jau yeh ho hi nahi sakta!"

"That's my girl! I have a really good news for you."

"Good news! Seriously dad? You're gifting me a sibling?" She teased him.

"Mera batcha seriously bada ho gaya hai!" He said making her giggle.

"Good news yeh hai ki your mom and I and coming to Mumbai very soon."

"What? Really? Kab aa rahe ho?" Taani literally shrieked into the phone.

"Dates sure nahi hai, but jald hi." He answered.

Aftera long talk with her parents and getting a really great news she passed out on her bed with a sweet smile adorning her face.

Next morning sun got a bright new hope for everyone. Sharon called up Taani saying they won't be attending college and instead practice in the rehearsal hall at the Sighania's. Taani got dressed up and left for Singhania mansion.

Unaware of all this, Rey was sitting in his room with an open drawer and a 'T' locket hanging in his hand. Khushi slowly sneaks into his room. She sees the locket and the 'T' pendant. She finds it very attractive and starts to wonders who this 'T' is. The only name that comes to her mind is Taani!

"Bhaiyya yeh locket kiske liye hai? Aur app kiske bare mein soch rahe ho?"

"Taani." He replies back dreamingly to the second question but comes out of the dreamland when he sees Khushi running out of his room with the locket.

"Agar unke liye hai toh pehna do na." Saying this she runs down to the dining hall where all have gathered for breakfast.

She runs to Taani and makes her wear it. By the time Taani wears it Rey reaches downstairs. Sharon and Swayam are shocked to see the locket around Taani's neck, and so is Rey. Sharon quickly drags Rey to a chair and makes him sit there quietly.

"Taani yeh locket?" Swayam asks her.

"Abhi Khushi ne pehnaya." She replies.

"Rey bhaiyya ke paas tha. Meine pucha toh unhone di ka naam liya." Khushi explains and starts eating her breakfast.

"Mujhe bhook nahi hai." Saying so Rey gets up and leaves to the rehearsal hall followed by Sharon and Swayam. Taani follows them quietly.

"Tum dono wahi the toh Khushi ko roka kyun nahi?" Rey barks at the two.

"We had no idea ki Khushi ke haath mein Tina ki locket hai. Hum dono ne khud voh baadmein dekhi." Explained Sharon.

Taani was shocked to learn that the locket was Tina's.

"I don't know anything. I want it back." Rey was getting stubborn.

"Taani se aise dene bolenge toh she will get hurt, usse bura lagega. Please you calm down hum koi rasta nikal lenge." Swayam tried to calm him.

"Swayam do something. Get it back." Rey pleaded.

"Rey, yeh rahi locket." Said Taani coming inside and handing him the locket.

Rey quickly took it from her and held it securely in his hand.

"I'm sorry mujhe nahi pata tha ki yeh Tina ki hai." Taani apologized.

"Don't be." Rey smiled at her. "Mein isse upar rakh ke aata hoon."

"Taani, listen don't feel bad, its just ki it's her only possession that Rey has and voh usse apne jaan se bhi jyada sambhalke rakhta hai." Sharon tried to make her understand.

"Sharon I can understand." She smiled back.

The whole day went in rehearsals. The competition was just a few days ahead and all four were putting in their best. After a tiresome day of continuous rehearsals, they went back to their room and slept. This was the only way to recharge themselves.
