Part 3c: The Promise

“I love you so much Anu” he professed...yet again, like he could never say it enough...

Swaying to the musical silence that filled their hearts with hope and joy of a life together,  he pressed this forehead on hers as though to pass the baton in the race to confess.

She could sense the urgency in his tone and to avoid any further ado she said “Anuj mujhe aapko kuch dena hai” 

Taken aback by her comment, he frowned curiously and asked “you mean kehna hai?” 

She smiled and said “ shayad iske baad kuch kehne ki jaroorat na padey” fuelling his intrigue...

Breaking the embrace for a brief moment she went to fetch the box from the dresser.

Guessing by the size of the box she held, he wondered if she took Mukku’s words seriously and got him a ring to propose but isnt it a guy thing to do? checking normal standards he thought... but then this was Anu, she liked doing things differently.

“Kholiye” she said excitedly handing him the box.

“Sorry Anu, mai tumhare liye koi present nahi laya” 

With his heart racing at turbulent speed, he bought himself some time unwrapping the box and trying to figure out how to open it.

She saw how shaky he was in anticipation, so she helped him work the box

and there it was...#MaAn- their names joined as one...

His eyes sparkled with blissful tears as he popped the keyring out to hold it in the flesh. He wanted to take a closer look at it to believe what it was meaning to convey...

Overwhelmed to see his erratic reaction of happiness mixed with apprehension and contentment, she felt like pulling him into a tight embrace to calm him down but held back thinking he needed to recover from her confession first.

“yaad hai aapne mujhe aise mere naam ka keyring diya tha jab mai ek nayi zindagi shuru kar rahi thi?” he couldn't get himself to speak so he nodded his yes.

Holding onto him tight, in case he couldn’t handle the euphoria when she said what she was about to say, Anu wiped the wetness from his eyes so he could see her clearly and hear her well.

“Anuj, ab mai apni zindagi aapke saath shuru karna chahti hoon” stressing on ‘aapke’ to make the intent apparent, she gave him a few moments to live and enjoy the most rewarding feeling.

Stunned to hear her say those magical words, he blinked dramatically to clear the haze that had built up in his eyes again.

He wanted to see if she was as ecstatic as he was to be sharing a life together, with each other, as a couple, in love.

And when he felt the intensity of her feelings was a few notches higher than his own, he clutched her hands in his and brought them up to his lips and asked  “itna pyaar karti ho tum mujhse Anu?”

Rubbing her head on his hands that held hers she whispered

”bohot bohot bohot zyada”

She couldn’t dare to look at him in that spine chilling moment, her temptations were on an all time high as she loitered with his touch on her face.

“Anu mai bhi tumhe kuch dena chahta hoon” he said to her surprise so he could get her to look at him.

“par aap ne toh kaha aap kuch nahi laaye” she said innocently and he smiled when she clocked on to his trick.

He then held her left hand out and slipped on the ring of the keychain on her finger and made her a promise “Anu mai tumse vaada karta hoon ke hamesha tumhara saath doonga” 

Pausing for a minute he let her savour the feeling, then pulling her intimately close, he kissed her on the ring finger and said 

“meri zindagi mein aane ke liye thank you”
