Chapter 9

Hi Friends, 

This is a very short, emotional chapter of Ajab Si Kahani Hamari. 

To capture the effect, i couldn't drag it to a long chapter.

CHAPTER 8

 

NEXT MORNING

 

Breakfast table was extremely silent. Harish noticed that Mehek didn't cook the food served and could comprehend degree of her hurt. PD watched her grand children with disapproval, "Why Sanjay did this drama on the day of engagement? He could have told us before or later. When will your husband learn , Svetlana?". Svetlana was embarrassed. "Dadi, please. For once , Sanjay took an apt action. He brought the truth infront of everyone" Harish told. "Hari, you don't talk about being right. Once again your temper got the best of you. Whatever excuse you give, it can't justify the way your ill-treated Khannas yesterday" PD scolded. Harish couldn't reply. "Have you even thought about Mehek's feeling or  her future" PD was concerned. "Why would he think about my feelings, PD? All Dad ever wanted was to save his company's reputation. He wanted to overwrite one news with another news. That's all", Mehek came down dressed up and blamed her dad. "Hari, what is Mehek talking about?" PD inquired. "Please explain to her, Dad. You have all day to convince her that you are right" . Mehek was leaving. "Mehek, where are you going ?" Hari asked. "I am going to Karuna Ma'am's house. I need to see her". "Just say you want to meet Shaurya" he mocked. "Maybe I will. But my primary concern is to meet Karuna Ma'am and apologize. I can just hope that she will forgive us, forgive YOU. Coz frankly speaking, your actions are unpardonable. She is my teacher, my role model. Years back you shattered my dream of being a professional chef and imprisoned me in this fake world of yours. Still I accepted it, thinking it as my duty. But yesterday, you ill-treated Karuna Ma'am, you dishonoured Shaurya's identity." she wiped her tears. "I dislike my mother. Even then if anyone ever dare to insult her, I would have torn them apart. Shaurya loves his mother so much. I can reckon his anger when you insulted Ma'am. Yet he didn't misbehave and controlled himself. It's all due to the culture and values imprinted in him by Karuna Ma'am", she paused to face PD. "PD, Dad will never understand. I cannot come in terms with yesterday's incident. I have to meet them" she said confidently. "Ladoo, you go and follow your heart. I have full faith in you and I am with you always" PD gave her confidence. "Yeah, Di. I am also with you.", Nehal supported her.  Mehek felt positive and left without waiting for her Dad's approval.

 

Karuna was lost in thoughts when Mehek came in . "Ma'am" Mehek called. "Oh, Mehek. Please come inside Beta" Karuan was indeed happy to see her. Mehek grabbed her hand and wept, "I am sorry for everything that happened yesterday. Please forgive me. "she pleaded. "Beta, stop crying. Please sit. Have some water", Karuna tried to calm her. "Ma'am , the way Dad treated you cannot be forgiven. Yet I seek your forgiveness. He is completely at fault. I love my dad. It would have broken him if I went against him. I didn't have courage to oppose him in public, I was weak and couldn't support you. I am really sorry", Mehek pleaded. Karuna observed her,. "You are not at fault, Mehek. You are a good daughter. I wish I was like you.  I was never a good daughter. I disobeyed my parents. My father was heartbroken when I left home to live with my lover. I was young and impetuous. I fell in love with most desirable man in our college. He was a rich, handsome , charming rebel. He suggested to have a live- in relationship which was unacceptable in our society. Yet I trusted him and agreed wholeheartedly. I didn't know about his marriage until I was carrying Vicky. My whole world came apart yet I decided to leave him. He pleaded , reasoned and even threatened me but I didn't concur. I could be an unmarried mother but never a mistress. Shaurya was too young to understand anything and Vicky was still in my womb. However I managed to fight and survive in this world." Mehek hugged her tightly, " You are a HERO, an inspiration to many". "May be I am. Although I realized that one wrong step taken by me, still affects my children. They are punished for my sins. Perhaps my dying father's baddua (curse) is haunting us.", Karuna was on verge of tears. "Nothing will happen to Shaurya. I won't let it happen. Can I...Can I see him?"Mehek requested. "Sure Beta. He is in his room" Karuna told her. Mehek walked to his room.

 

Shaurya turned off his laptop and leaned on the chair with his eyes closed. He had sent his resignation letter. He cannot work anymore with Sharma group of companies. Harish Sharma was his idol but today he disgusted him. He called Shaurya a b*****d child, painted his mom as a wanton home breaker and dishonoured their family. He decided to move to London where his friends were settled. They had been constantly asking him to join them. Till now he refused coz he wanted to be near Mehek. Mehek, his lovely Mehek. Her helpless face flashed before him. She was devastated with the turn of event but was unable to fight for him. Fate brought them so near, only to be ruthlessly thrown apart. He cannot remain in same city, knowing that Mehek will soon belong to someone else. It won't be hard for her to move on, since she never loved him. Besides she was always an obedient daughter. He will always love her, his life may be doomed yet he want her to be happy. He yearned to see her one last time, hear her voice and feel her presence. "Shaurya". Shaurya opened his eyes in disbelief. Mehek, is she here for real? "Shaurya" she called him again. Shaurya stood up to face her. She walked swiftly to his arms and wept. "Why did this happen, Shaurya? Everything was going fine. We were so happy.  How could this happen ? Am I so ill-fated ?" she wept in his arms. Shaurya didn't know how to console her. He couldn't believe that Mehek was there with him. It would have taken immense courage to disregard her father and come to him. He was happy that Mehek decided to fight for them. "Mehku, please don't cry. I can't see you like this. Please don't cry", he tried to pacify her. "I am so unlucky. I was so close to my mother yet she left me. Now you are also taken from me", she cried. "No, Mehek. You are not. If you dare, we can be together". Mehek threw him a questioning look. "I have decided to move to London. Come with me Mehek. We shall be happy together. If you are with me, I can aim for the sky" he told. She quickly moved away from him. "What are you suggesting ? It will be a scandal. I cannot betray my family. My dad will be broken. He is a heart patient. He will not survive the shock" she told. Shaurya was hurt realizing that her loyalty still belonged to her selfish father. "Shaurya, I care for you. Being away from you is painful for me. However I cannot comply to this request. I love my dad.". "What about me, Mehek? What are your feelings for me?", Shaurya questioned. "I like you a lot. Thought of losing you breaks me...I.. I can't imagine..."."Admit it, Mehek. You are in love with me. As much as I am in love with you", Shaurya said. Mehek was left speechless. She was surprised that she couldn't deny his claim. "Please leave", Shaurya asked her . He left her alone and went to balcony. He was afraid he would do something he may regret , if he stayed with her longer. He was hurt , angry and felt helpless. Her eyes were brimmed with tears , she quickly wore her googles to hide them and left.

 

She bid adieu to Karuna Ma'am. When she reached door, Shaurya came down and offered to walk her till the car."Me and Ma are leaving tomorrow night. If you change your mind, come to airport and I will take you with me. No one can stop us once you have decided to be with me. Now the ball is in your court. Choice is yours." he said opening door of the car. "Shaurya... I can't...", he silenced  her by capturing her lips. They were lost in each other fully ignoring their surroundings. Shaurya withdrew and whispered "I love you, Mehek. My heart and soul belong to you. Always ". He left her behind and walked to his home.
