Devakshi FF: Reaching Out

Part 28

"Ma! Yeh waali saree bohot zyada bright nahin hai? Sonakshi whined, trying to push the saree off her shoulders, where Asha had kept it, to see how it would suit her daughter.

Asha smacked Sonakshi's hand away.

"Chup kar Shona. Dekhne de mujhey! Zyada time nahin hai humarey paas!

Sonakshi grumbled. But she stopped struggling and let her mother do what she wanted. What could she do? Everyone knew how mothers became when it came to their daughter's wedding.

Yes, that is exactly what was happening.

Sonakshi smiled at herself in the mirror. She was getting married.

Who's the lucky guy you ask?

Well it was this business tycoon who thought he could rule the world. But slowly came to realise that he couldn't rule the world without this particular doctor by his side.

Sonakshi laughed lightly when she remembered his absurd proposal.

**Flashback**

"Dr. Bose, kya sare patient reports review kar liya aapney? Dr. Sinha asked Sonakshi.

He was the one organizing the board meeting with the head doctors of every department along with the board members to monitor if everything was going smoothly. Sonakshi nodded with a smile.

"Ji Dr. Sinha, yeh final patient ki report hai, jo maine abhi ready ki hai.

Actually, Sonakshi could have finished her reports much earlier. But her last patient was a difficult person to handle. He was a boy of twenty, fighting depression after having lost his elder sibling in a freak accident. Sonakshi had taken the longest time to get through to him.

In fact somebody had helped her get through to the boy.

Dev.

He had helped her a lot in that respect. Similar to Dev, this boy had somehow ended up blaming himself for his sibling's death. Only when Sonakshi made Dev talk to the boy, did he start talking to Sonakshi. But there was obviously a condition he put forward. It was pretty simple. She would have to bring Dev along. Surprisingly, Dev agreed without a word. In fact he seemed to almost enjoy helping the boy. And that warmed Sonakshi's heart.

So as the break through took time, so did the report. Sonakshi had finally managed to finish report that morning. She was pretty relieved and secretly wanted to hug the life out of Dev for helping out. But she would never tell him that. He would get too ahead of himself and demand things like a public kiss. Sonakshi could definitely entertain no such thing in the hospital.

She smiled thinking of Dev.

He could be such a kid sometimes.

Sonakshi bid farewell to Dr. Sinha promising to be on time at the meeting that evening, and made her way to her cabin. Midway, a nurse came running to her.

"Dr. Bose!

Sonakshi turned to her, alert.

"Kya hua?

The nurse was panting heavily, " Woh-woh aap mere saath chaliye. Ward two me kuch ho raha hai.

Sonakshi grew alarmed. Ward two was where the boy had been kept. And sometimes, when his anger would get out of control, he would send things flying. Sonakshi immediately ran towards the said ward. There were five other patients in that room along with the boy, while one bed was still free. All her patients. While one was an old lady two were middle aged women. The fourth was a young girl in her teens and the fifth one was a man in his forties. They could be in danger right now.

On arriving she quickly threw the door open, expecting the worst.

But what she saw wasn't something she could ever be prepared to see.

On the free bed, lay Dev, in the patients' uniform, with a hand over his eyes. There were a billion nurses in the room along with Neha and some more of her Doctor colleagues, who were surrounding Dev with a look of worry. The other patients were also sitting on their beds with looks of pure confusion. Sonakshi was partly relived to find the boy in one piece and visibly calm. He seemed to be staring at Dev with a curious expression.

Sonakshi hurried forwards, moving aside, the mass of people so she could reach Dev.

"Kya ho raha hai yahan?

Neha looked at Sonakshi uncertainly.

"Bhaiyya ko kuch hua hai kya?

Sonakshi grew even more unnerved.

"Yeh toh main poochne waali thi. Dev ko kya hua hai?

Hearing his name Dev made a few groaning sounds. Sonakshi immediately started tending to him.

"Kya hua Dev? Kahin dard ho raha hai aapko?

Dev removed his hand from over his eyes and stared at Sonakshi, nodding.

Sonakshi's fear grew.

"Kahan?

Dev brought his hand to his chest and said, " Yahan

Sonakshi placed her hand on his chest, looking for injuries, but she found nothing.

Seeing her confusion Dev said, " Dard dil me hai!

Sonakshi's eyes windened, " Heart problems? Neha! Tum kuch karo.

Dev didn't seem to like the suggestion.

"Isme Neha kya kar sakti hai Sonakshi?

Sonakshi was sure Dev had lost his mind.

"Aapki behen cardiologist hai Dev, yaad hai naah aapko?

Dev turned his face away from Sonakshi, as if upset.

"Par ussey mera problem solve nahin hoga.

Then he turned to look at Sonakshi reached his hand out to her.

"Mere dil me dard tumse duur rehney ki wajah se ho raha hai. Mujhsey shaadi karlo, to phir dard bhi theek ho jayega.

For a minute there was absolute silence in the room. All the fussing stopped and everyone froze in their places. Sonakshi's jaw dropped. There was absolutely pin drop silence.

Then Sonakshi clenched her fist and hit Dev on his chest, very hard.

"Dev! Aap pagal hai kya?

Dev sat up, massaging his chest where Sonakshi hit him.

"Haan nahin kahogi toh ho jaunga.

He clutched her hands to himself and said, " Nahin hone dogi na pagal?

Sonakshi stared at him in disbelief. But slowly she smiled and nodded.

"Nahin. Karungi main shaadi, aapsey.

And that's when the whole room burst into laughter. There was a sudden shower of flowers from everywhere.

To hide her embarrassment, she hugged Dev, who had now abandoned the bed and was standing with a triumphant smile.

Sonakshi couldn't remember when she had been this happy.

And slowly she realised that there never had been a moment like this before.

Because without Dev, her happiness was incomplete. She gazed up at him tearfully, while he patted her head affectionately.

And from the corner of her eye, she even spotted the boy clapping with a big smile on his face.

The moment was truly the best.

**End of Flashback**

A shrill ring tone broke her reverie. She came back to reality to find her mother still looking for sarees, even though they already had a mountainous pile beside them.

She looked at her phone and smiled at the caller Id. She looked up to find her mother looking at her with a knowing smile. She urged Sonakshi to take the call and then went back to her saree hunting.

Sonakshi blushed, excited that she was going to talk to him.

It was weird how she still blushed like crazy whenever she thought about her boyfriend. Oh no, to-be-husband eh?

It had a nice ring to it!

Laughing she received the call.

She couldn't wait to spend the rest of her life with him.
