Chapter Fourteen

 

It had been a week since Dev had left for his tour...there had not been a day when he had not connected with Sona for a video call...everyday they drank in each-other's features over their laptop screen as Ansh would suddenly emerge from out of nowhere with his cute little mischief's to remind the two love birds that now they were parent also to a 6 year old kid...despite of all this Dev badly missed being away from home...he missed his cozy alone time with Sona and  his cool bonding with Ansh...how he wished this one month would fly off soon and he would fly down to India to be with his wife and son...but every time he would express his desire to fly back to India, he would end up getting scolded by Sona for ignoring his work and would be advised to complete his job accurately before returning home...'these women' he thought they can never understand a man's emotions'.

Here Sonakshi was finding it very difficult to manage Ansh all alone...Daadi was not keeping too well so Asha also couldn't come to her aide...she thought of hiring a nanny for Ansh too but these days it was very risky to hire any unknown person to take care of your child...her work was getting neglected and she had to always be at the receiving end form her boss...all this was getting her literally upset as one day she thought of discussing her difficulty with Dev..."Dev yeh sab manage karna mere liye bohot difficult ho raha hai...ek toh Ansh itna jyaada badmaash ho gaya hai ki poocho mat...roz kuch na kuch bakheda karta hi rehta hai...meri baat manana chodiye mujhe har waqt apne peeche bhagat rehta hai...jab aap yahaan the to sab kitna acche se manage kar lete the...abhi to mujhe aisa lagne laga hai  ki I can't be a good mother at all...Dev main kuch soch rahi thi...bolu kya?"...she looked on as she waited for Dev to answer her back...but as he just continued starring at her she replied all annoyed..."Dav aapne suna bhi maine kya kahan?...aap kuch bol hi nahin rahe hai...kuch to jawaab dijiye meri baat ka!!!"...Dev let out a chuckle at her annoyed expression..."tumhe pata hai ...tum jab tension mein aa jaati ho na tab bohot jyaada cute lagti ho...mann karta hai ki tumhe kha jao"...Dev winked at her as she gave him a deadly glare ...trying to persuade her he continued..."accha baba majaak nahin ...bolo kya kehna tha...main abhi seriously jawaab doonga ok...bolo kya socha hai tumne?"..."Dev main soch rahi thi ki job se resign kar doon...Ansh waise bhi bada ho raha hai...uska school, homework, yeh sab bhi ab bada mushkil hoga aapke liye manage karna...aur waise bhi agar humara dusra baccha hoga to use bhi manage karna hoga...isiliye main ghar pe hi rehna chati hoon...if you are ok with it"...Dev couldn't admire her less...not because she wanted to be a good wife and mother...because she was a good human being...she didn't miss her first child while expressing her desire to have a second one...he now realized what makes him fall more and more in love with her by each passing day..."Sona maine tumhe kabhi kisi cheez ke liye force nahin kiya hai...na job karne keliye na use chodne keliye...yeh entirely tumhara decision hoga...tumhe jo bhi theek lage woh karo...bas ek baat yaad rakhna ki tum jo bhi decision  loogi usmein main humesha tumhare saath hoon...har baat tumhe mujhse pooch kar karne ki jaroorat nahin hai...samjhi my dear khargosh"......Sona resigned from her job the very next day and was lucky enough to be asked to serve a notice period of only 15 days...she still had 4 days left before Dev would come back so she decided to visit her parents at Delhi as it had been quite some time she had visited Delhi.

"Mummy, arrey kahan ho aap?...jab bhi jaroori baat batani hoti hai tabhi aap gayab ho jaate ho yaar"...Vicky dashed into Ishwari's room as Ishwari and RadhaRani sat chatting..."haye haye Vicky kya ho gaya hai tujhe...iss tarah se chilla kyun raha hai...koi bhoot dekh liya hai kya?"...scolded an annoyed RadhaRani..."arrey mummy baat hi aisi hai ki aap sunoge na to aapke pairo tale ki jameen khisak jayegi...accha hua bua aap bhi yahin mil gayi...yeh baat janana aapke liye bhi jaroori hai"...boasted an over-excited Vicky..."aakhir aisi kaunsi baat hai Vicky jise batane keliye tu itna utawala ho raha hai?"...inquired a worried Ishwari..."arrey bua aap sunogi na to gusse se laal peele ho jaoge...jab se mujhe yeh baat pata chali hai na tab se...chee sharam aa rahi hai aapko batane mein lekin kya karun batana to padega"..."Vicky dekh jo bhi baat hai jaldi bata, mera dil baitha jaa raha hai"..."arrey bua baat aapke ladle bte Dev aur uss bangalan ki hai...aapko pata hai dono ne bas pichle mahine Mumbai mein shaadi ki hai...ab aap sochengi ki agar shaadi pichle mahine hui hai to Kunal se to woh usse pehle mile the...to tab Dev bhai ne use yeh kyun kahan ki Sonakshi unki patni hai...to bua ab aap na asli mudde ki baat suno...baat yeh hai ki Dev bhai aut woh besharam ladki pichle 6 saaloan se bina shaadi ke ek hi ghar mein reh rahe hai...aur to aur dono ne bas shaadi hi nahin ki thi ...baaki saara kaam pati patni waala hi kar rahe the dono...aap samajh rahi hai na main kya keh raha hoon"...Vicky declared indicating the intimate relationship Devakshi shared with each other..."Vicky chup kar...mera Dev aisa nahin hai...woh kisi bhi ladki se aisa najayij sambhand rakh hi nahin sakta...tujhe jaroor koi galat faimi hui hai"...Ishwari tried her best to dismiss Vicky's claims..."bua Vicky bina saboot ke koi baat nahin karta... unn dono ka ek baccha bhi hai...yaad nahin Kunal ne bhi yehi baat boli thi aapse?"...Ishwari kept mum as Vicky continued to fill her about the details of Dev and Sonakshi's whereabouts in these past years...he also informed her that Sona was at present in Delhi visiting her parents.

Sonakshi was quite jetlagged due to her tiresome journey from Mumbai to Delhi...she had just settled down after putting Ansh to sleep when her phone rang...she was shocked to see someone calling her from Ishwari Niwas...worried and scared she picked up the phone..."Hello ...kaun?"..."Sonakshi main Ishwari Dixit bol rahi hoon...Dev ki maa...tum bhooli toh nahin hogi...khair suna ki tum Delhi aayi ho...baat karni thi tumse...aaj shaam ghar aa jaana"...saying so Ishwari cut the call without giving Sona a chance to reply leaving her all perplexed...Sona knew what was about to come so she decided to go all alone leaving a sleeping Ansh behind with her mother...she didn't want to trouble her parents as well so she even lied to them that she was planning a surprise visit to her friends place and might be late in the evening...as she arrived at Ishwari Niwas she was not at all shocked to look at Dev's family members starring at her as if she had committed a huge  crime.

"yeh lijiye jiji...aa gayi aapki pyaari bangalan...jara poochiye to isse ki kya yahi sikhaya hai iske maa baap ne ise...kisi paraye mard ke saamne apni izzat aur apne kapde utarna?...shaadi se pehle kisi bhi aadmi ke saath ek hi ghar mein yahaan tak ki ek hi kamre mein rehna...aur to aur uska baccha bhi paida karliya isne...aur himmat to dekhiye iski ...itna sab kuch karne ke baad bhi yeh yahaan aise khadi hai muh uthake jaise ki kuch hua hi na ho...ari oo bangalan...woh baccha humare Dev ka hi hai na yah kisi aur ka paap humare bhole bhale Dev ke sar mand rahi hai tu?...bacchalan kahinki"...RadhaRani tried her best to degrade Sona's character infront of all the family members..."bhabhi dheere boliye...Riya aur Nikki upar khade hain sun lenge...accha lagta hai kya yeh?...iss ladki ko to sharam nahin hai par humein to hai!!!"...Ishwari tried to calm down RadhaRani..."arrey sunti hai to sune jiji...unhe bhi to pata chale ki duniya mein aise ladkiyan bhi hoti hai jo chaar paise dekhe nahin ki apni izzat bech khane ko jhat se tayyar ho jaati hai...raam raam...bhagwaan hi bachaye aisi ladkiyon se".

"Sonakshi yaa mere bte ke khilaf ek shabd nahin maamiji!!!!"...Dev's voice echoed in Ishwari Niwas silencing the ever blabbering RadhaRani and stunning the triumphant Ishwari...they were rejoicing all this while for having caught Sona alone in Dev's absence ...they had decided amongst themselves that they would humiliate Sona as much as possible so that the self-respect vouching Sona would by herself move out of theirs and Dev's life, thus forcing Dev to get back to his mother with no other choice left...but little did they knew that their Dev was not the same old Dev who would stand any nonsense from his family being dished out to Sona ...he had now transformed into a more defiant individual, thanks to Sona and Ansh ...he had learned to give back to the right person at the right time...Ishwari started shedding tears to gain his sympathy while RadhaRani hung her head low showing off to be ashamed.

Dev reached Mumbai, 2 days earlier then he was suppose to...he was all set to surprise Sona with his sudden appearance...but he himself was surprised to find the house empty as Sona had left for Delhi...guess she knew he would not allow her to visit Delhi if he was aware of this...Dev called up Tina to find out if she knew anything about Sona's sudden disappearance...all she could tell him was that Sona had asked her to book 2 tickets for her and Ansh for Delhi ...she was supposed to visit her parents during Dev's absence ...she also told him that their return tickets were booked and she was supposed to return soon just after a 4 day stay...she also informed him that Vicky had visited office in his absence and was trying to rummage through some important files in his cabin...something inside Dev told him that she was in deep danger in visiting Delhi in his absence...specially when his family almost knew the truth of him being married and having a kid...what if they come across her when in Delhi and find out  that she was the one who was responsible for his dual relationship status...he asked Tina to immediately arrange tickets for him as he too was going to fly down to Delhi to be by her side just in-case she faced any inconvenience...he boarded the next available flight and flew down to Delhi...once in his city he called up Saurabh to find out if Sona was home...when he told him that she had left Ansh at home to visit someone Dev feared the worst...he was about to enter Ishwari Niwas when he bumped into Ranveer...the same guy who had tracked down Ritwick to solve half of their issues...but then why didn't he himself come up to them to inform them about the latest happenings...wait he had been divorced from Neha long back, then how come he knew the secrets of Dev's family despite of staying miles away from them...Dev had to sort out this mess.

"Ranveer tum yahaan...tumse waise bhi milna chahta tha main...tumhe kaise pata tha ki mere ghar pe sabko pata chal gaya hai mere aur Sona ke rishte ke bare mein?...aur agar pata chal hi gaya tha to tum khud bhi to aa sakte the...tumne Ritwick ko kyun bheja?"

"Dev bhai aapse mera koi bair nahi hai...Neha aur mere beech jo kuch bhi hua usmein aapki koi galti nahin thi...maine humesha se chaha tha ki aap aur Sonakshi bhabhi ek saath khush rahaein...par jab aap dono alag hue to mera pyaar shabd par se vishwas uth gaya...phir kuch dino pehle Riya ka call aaya...usne bataya ki uske fianc Kunal ne aapko kisi ladki ke saath Mumbai mein dekha jise aapne apni patni kahaan...mujhe shaq hua ki kahin woh ladki Sona bhabhi to nahin...isiliye main unke ghar gaya yeh pata lagane ki mera shaq sahi hai ya galat...par wahaan chalke mujhe pata chala Saurabh se ki aapki jindagi mein kya kuch ho gaya hai...main kisi bhi tarah aap dono ki madad karna chahta tha...par yeh darr bhi tha ki shayad aap mujhse baat karenge bhi ya nahin...isiliye maine socha ki pehle mujhe Ritwick ko dhoondna chahiye...maine use jaan bujhkar yeh nahin bataya ki legally Sona bhabhi usiki patni hai ...mujhe darr tha ki kahin agar uska mann badal gaya to woh aap dono ke beech na aa jaye...mujhe yeh yaqueen bhi tha ki ek baar woh aapke saamne aa jaye to aap usse divorce papers sign karwa hi loge...bass maine kisi bhi tarah use manakar Mumbai bhej diya...aur aage aap sab jante ho"...Dev couldn't thank him enough for reliving him from such a big stress of his life...he hugged him overwhelmed thanking him for his support despite being ruined in the name of love by his own sister.

 Sona looked upto Dev, teary-eyed as he walked past Maamaji who was standing like a statue in the living room...he didn't even feel the need to stop his sister and wife from humiliating an innocent girl...his wife moreover, Dev thought as he dejectedly looked in his direction before moving ahead and supporting a sobbing Sona by her shoulder...calming her down he said..."rona band karo Sona...kinke liye aansu baha rahi ho tum...inn sab keliye...yeh sab iske layak tak nahin hai...jab inn sabne aapne bte ki marji jaanane ki koshish nahin ki ...use samajhne ki koshish nahin ki to yeh tumhe kya samjhenge?...tum yahaan aayi hi kyun...maine mana kiya tha na tumhe...kahaan tha ki humara ghar woh hai jahaan main, tum aur Ansh saath rehte hai...yeh ghar humara nahin hai "...as he was comforting a devastated Sona, Ishwari butted in trying to be all sober..."yeh tu kya keh raha hai Dev ...ab yeh ghar bhi tera nahin raha?...iss kal ki aayi hui ladki ke liye tu apni maa ko chod dega?...iss ghar ko chod dega"..."yeh kal ki aayi hui ladki meri patni hai maa...aur iska naam Mrs. Sonakshi Dev Dixit hai...aap agar yeh baat na bhoole aur meri patni ko izzat de to mujhe jyaada accha lagega...waise main aapse aur kuch to expect kar nahin sakta par itni umeed jaroor karta hoon ki aap rishtoan ka lihaaj to karengi kam se kam".

Ishwari was too stunned to say anything as Dev turned to RadhaRani to give her an earful..."aur maamiji aap...parayi ladki ke saamne sharam aur kapde to aapke ghar ke bte ki bhi utri the...sharam to mujhe bhi aani chahiye thi...par sawaal humesha ladki par hi kyun uthe...humesha ladki ko hi dosh diya jataa hai iss baat ko andekha karte hue ki ladke ki bhi iss sab mein utni hi marzi bhi hoti hai aur galti bhi...aapne aaj Sona se jo bhi kahaan sab ke saamne uske baad aapko maamiji kehne ka man bhi nahin karta...iss baat ka to khayaal kiya hota ki Ria aur Nikki khade hai yahaan...jo Sona se bohot chote hai...aur Sona se umar mein bade Maamaji bhi yahaan khade hai...itni ghatiya baat bolne se pehle aapne ek baar bhi nahi socha ki kaisa lagega Sona ko?".

Dev had kept quite all these years...he had always tried to protect his loved ones and to keep his relations intact...but now it was high time he would give back in a right manner  to each and every person who would put down his wife and try to demean her...at this point of his life he had to stand up for his love...he couldn't commit the same mistake he had committed all those years back...entwining his fingers with Sona's he looked straight into Ishwari's eyes as he spoke ..."aapko pata hai maa, jab mujhe Sona se pyaar hua tabhi main shayad iss duniya ka sabse khush insaan tha...maine kitna kuch socha tha humare rishte ke liye...Sona  ke saath ek hasti khelti jindagi bitana chahta tha main...use sabse chupake sirf apne liye, apne paas rakhna chahta tha...isliye nahi ki main kuch galat kar raha tha ...par shayad isliye kyunki bachpan se lekar aaj tak main apne liye kabhi kuch wish hi nahin kiya tha...Sona woh pehli insaan thi jise maine khud se apni jindagi mein shamil kiya tha...waise to mere liye har cheez tu hi decide karti aayi hai bachpan se...mujhe kaunse school mein jaana hai...kitni der tak padhai karni hai...padh likh kar jab main kaam karne lagunga tab mujhe kitne paise kamane hai...kaise tera aur meri behnoan ka future secure karna hai ...yeh sab tune hi to decide kiya tha mere liye...bas Sona se pyaar karna yehi ek woh cheez thi jo maine apne liye khud se decide kit hi...par tujhse woh bhi dekha nahin gaya...tu toh neend ki goliyan khake hospital mein jaakar bharti ho gayi...par tujhe andaaja bhi nahin hai ki teri iss harquat ki wajah se main aur Sona kitni maute mare hai...aasaan nahin tha mere liye yeh decide karna ki mujhe tum dono mein se kise chun na hai...yeh to wahi baat ho gayi ki aap kisi insaan se yeh poochlo ki use apne shareer ka dayina hissa jyaada pyaara hai yah baina"...Dev was getting choked up as he continued speaking..."phir bhi maine tujhe chuna...isliye nahin ki main Sona se kam pyaar karta tha...par isliye kyunki woh tujhse jyaada samajhdaar, mature aur strong hai...mujhe pata tha ki agar main use chod dunga to woh toot jaroor jayegi par jaan dena jaisi bachkaani harkat kabhi nahin karegi jaise tu karti...par tune kya kiya...mujhe laga tha ki tu mera dard samjhegi...mujhe kahegi ki main Sona ko waapas le aau...par tune to woh kiya jo koi apne dushman ke saath bhi na kare...sirf iss chah se ki Sona meri jindagi mein kabhi wapas na aaye...tune uska rishta Ritwick se karwana chaha...tune ek baar bhi yeh nahin socha ki jab yeh baat mujhe pata chalegi to mujhpar kya beetegi...kaise dekh paunga main ki jiss ladki se main beintehaan pyaar karta hoon woh kisi aur ki hone jaa rahi hai ...ek baar bhi khayaal nahin aaya na tujhe?"...Dev questioned her as Ishwari stood silent glaring at him as if she had seen a ghost...she didn't have answers to any of her deeds...she knew she was wrong but didn't wish to admit it as for her she was always right in what she did and her son should always look upto her as an ideal human being...little did she knew her faade had worn off over the years ...now her son no longer worshipped her ...he only fulfilled his duties towards her and the other family members as a matter of obligation...otherwise he had got nothing to do with them.

She fell on the couch shattered as Dev continued to pour out his emotions that he had held back for all these years..."ussi din maine socha ki main sirf apne liye jiunga...sirf apne aur Sona  ki khushi keliye...woh to meri kismet acchi thi ki Ritwick ne mujhe samjha aur woh iss shaadi se peeche hat gaya...sach kahoon maa to jindagi ke asli maine uss din pata chale mujhe...uss din se maine jaana ki selfish hona kabhi kabhi acchi baat hoti hai...aur sach mein main apni jindagi mein khush hoon kyunki mere saath jo log rehte hai woh mujhse pyaar karte hai bina kisi cheez ki umeed kiye...bina kisi shart ke"...Maamaji had been consoling a continuously crying Ishwari as she kept telling him..."yeh mera Dev nahin hai bhaiyya...iss ladki ne badal diya hai ise...maine ise aise sanskaar nahin diye the...yeh sab jhoot bolna...bina shaadi  ke ek saath rehna ...bina kisiko bataye shaadi kar lena...yeh sab mera Dev nahin kar sakta bhaiyya...yeh jaroor issne sikhaya hai ise...isiki khushi keliye yeh sab kar raha hai mera beta"...Dev was now really feeling offended as his mother still continued blaming Sonakshi and tried to justify her behavior...his eyes reddened in anger as he spoke up loud enough to be heard by everyone..."mujhe laga tha ki itna sabkuch sunne ke baad tu sudhar jayegi ...tujhe apni galti ka ehsaas hoga aur tu use maankar Sona ko apna legi...par main bhool gaya tha ki tu to khud ko devi manti hai...jo kabhi galat nahin ho sakti...to ab tu meri baat bhi sun le...tu iss layak hi nahin hai ki koi tere saath rahe...tu bas akelapan deserve karti hai...isiliye main Sona aur Ansh ko lekar humesha keliye US shift ho raha hoon...tum sab se bohot dur...jahaan na tum log to kya tum sabki parchayi bhi hum tak nahin pohunch sakegi...tu ghabrana mat, tera aur tere gharwaloan ka khayaal meri company rakh legi...har mahine tere account mein paise jama kar diye jayenge...taaki tujhe aur tere inn rishtedaaroan ko koi takleef na ho...tu inn selfish logon ke saath rehna hi deserve karti hai"...with that he turned to leave as Sona tried to intervene..."Dev yeh aap kya keh rahe hain...yeh humara parivaar hai...aise inhe akela chod kar hum kaise US shift ho sakte hain?...aap abhi gusse mein hain...hum shaanti se baith kar baat karenge"...she was cut short by an already annoyed Dev..."tumhara parivaar sirf main, Ansh aur tumhare gharwaale hain Sona...yeh log aur yeh ghar tumhe aur tumhari acchayi ko deserve nahin karta...ab isse pehle ki mera gussa aur badhe please chalo yahaan se"...he dragged Sona out of the house as Ishwari tried to stop him with her sugar-coated words, all in vein...a week later Dev and Sonakshi left for US after bidding adieu to the Bose's who promised to visit them soon.
