A small light in the dark



For the fifth time that night, her husband woke up screaming and clutching, and in small and shallow voice, she would hear him call out her name. She hugs him to he feel safe enough to hug her back and she feel him shake in her arms as he ask her the same question:" did I come fast enough to save you?" Moving out of the hug, he cups her face to see through her soul and she wonders if he can see her yearning to get him through this


How many times she sees the black and lifeless eyes, it still pierce right into her soul like the first time. She wants to take away all the pain, but has no idea how to. His looks at her with fear and pain and ask desperately, holding her firmly yet the touch is so gentle like he is afraid she will break, and it reminds her how different it is from Milan 's:" please Ishani tell me they did not hurt you "


Ishani wipe of the sweat that is on his forehead with her dupatta and whispers gently:" no , but they hurt me by hurting you" she tells him and he repeat the words :" she is safe " he takes his both legs up in the bed and start rocking himself back and forward repeating the words about her being safe.
She feel like someone has hit her with a dagger when she sees him like this , she gently takes her hand on his shoulder and sees him flinch .


It takes him some minutes before he relax , when he is assured that it is his Ishani and that he is really back home and this is not something he imagines.


She makes him lay in her lap as she gently plays with his hair and sing for him, trying to ease his pain. She can't 't stop but think that even he is getting better but sometimes she feel like time is going for slow because she really don't know for how long she can be strong enough to see him suffering like this .



While she sings for him, she wonders if she ever took the smile of his for granted, if she will ever get the chance to see him smile and joke around with everyone. She wonders if he will ever call her Sunny again, she wonders if he ever will not be afraid and will not hesitate when she touches him.


Her thoughts are interrupted by his voice sudden whispering:" Ishani ", the tone is so gentle and peaceful that it surprises her, as she had not heard her name sounds like that from his lips for a while. She looks down and sees him sleeping on her lap, peacefully like a small baby. It warms her heart and she presses a soft kiss on his forehead. His next words make her heart fall for him all over again

" I will find a way to find you in this darkness, without the darkness consuming you"
