Dharam thinks the days how he started to fall for Sanyogita and how he fails to confess his feelings to her due to some circumstances 

All these things Started after attaining second in the half-yearly exam in class -9. It was during the time of Durga Puja Last year

Sanyogita came to Meghna's complex on the day of Maha Saptami. Every Year in Dharam's locality a large Durgapuja's pandal was held so all the residents enjoyed the days from the core of their heart, they bestowed their respect, love, affection in the feet of Maa . Meghna was wearing a below-the-knee-length green frock with a jacket above it . Both the girls were looking for Dharam whom they could not find anywhere. Afterward, they found a boy who was sitting at a lonely place a distance from the pandal. Both the girls were about to walk to Dharam when Meghna’s mother called for her. She told Sanyogita to go to Dharam and she would join them a little later. Sanyogita reciprocates a light smile to her as a reply. Sanyogita took her steps towards Dharam 

“Hey ! what are you doing here?”

Dharam looked at Sanyogita who wore a half sleeves royal blue front slit Kurti and golden leggings. It was the second time when he saw her with her open long dense wavy natural brown hair below her shoulder. For sometimes he stared at her even in her simple attire, She looks wonderful. He saw her two cute small earrings which increased the charm of her glow.

“Hey what happens Dharam? Sanyogita shook him slightly 

Dharam shifted his gaze from her; he tried his best to hide his feelings as usual.

Sanyogita sat beside him on the chair “what happened? What are you doing here? Aunty [Dharam’s mother] is looking for you!

“Nothing Sanyo, I don’t like crowds!

“Ohh! ok. But what happened? Why are you looking so upset? “

Dharam glanced at her [How does she know I am upset even I have told this to anyone ]

Sanyogita looked at him with confused eyes “Dharam what happened, is there anything that is bothering you ?”Sanyogita asked him worriedly

“Nothing Sanyo, I am fine “He did not want to tell her if he said this to her if she felt bad. 

Still, Sanyogita was not confirmed by his answer. Dharam was about to change the topic but her question made him baffle 

“Dharam, what happened with your left hand, I mean looked at the red marks on your wrist ?”Sanyogita asked shockingly

Dharam looked at her astonishingly. From deep down, he was feeling happy seeing her concern for him.

“Dharam why are you hesitating, am I not your friend? you can me, maybe I can help you? Sanyogita said to him with a soft voice "How did you get these marks?

This time Dharam told her everything, he knew Sanyogita was different and she could not take him wrongly.

At the night when he shows his report card to his father, he became furious at him , if your marks deteriorate this much just thought yourself which rank you will get among all those students, the competition was going high day by day, lakh  lakh students appeared in entrance exams but only gems get selection there, had you thought yourself, you have to ruin your life like this.Dharam was frightened by the anger of his father , he could not get the courage to utter a single word to his father. His mother tried to calm down the situation. “Why are you scolding your son, he came second only, he didn't fail in exams, and these things are very common in the study. Only marks rank matter for you. Why can’t you see the effort for him”

“Don't try to support your son Barnali, the effort which gives no fruit is of no use. It was all the bad influence of his companion and also the fault of you, you never scold him, your son, for anything always agreed with him, if day by day his results worsen how he will get IIT ”

Dharam at night lying on his bed he was weeping.

Sanyogita  was feeling very bad for him “Dharam I am sorry “

“It’s okay Sanyo if you're not the reason for it you don't need to say sorry “

Sanyogita gave a sigh ,she looked at Dharam”Don’t lose hope, one day your Papa will understand.Your mother loves you so much."

“It’s my belief nobody can beat you Dharam, you are the best, in fact, you are one of the good guys, a decent, intelligent, good-hearted person, I have a belief in you next time your Papa will realize your effort and how you are willing to make his dream come true and I hope one day he will definitely going to believe marks aren't everything".

“Thank you Sanyo, you are one of my good friends .”

Sanyogita gave him a half-smile

“Sanyo please don’t tell this to Meghna ?”

Sanyogita looked at him with wrinkled eyes 

Seeing her confused expression he spoke” You don't know her Sanyo, how delicate she is, if she sees my scars she will cry and I can’t see her tears, it will make me feel guilty “

Sanyogita glanced at him” You think so much about Megh, Do you like her ?”Sanyogita asked him with a teasing smile

Dharam smiles at her remark” Yes I like her but as a friend among the girls, she is my best friend. You don’t know how childish she is, still, she is scared after seeing a cockroach. In fact, her bubbliness makes me smile .”Dharam laugh 

Sanyogita listen to him carefully 

“So, tum hi baato, ' Sanyo, how will I cry to the girl who makes me smile ?’

“Yeah, childish toh hai. I believe you and Megh will be a good pair”

“No Sanyo it’s not like that”

“Why so?”

“She is my best friend among girls and I like her that way”

Afterward, both of them talk more about Meghna and other things.

Meghna heard all the conversion from behind, it broke her heart “why Dharam thought of her as a child. Why can’t he share his problem with her why he shared his  scar with Sanyogita “

After she left the Puja, she was feeling dejected from the inside, even angry at Dharam. In the night when her mother called for her during Dinner, she told them

“Maa, why does everyone think of me as a kid?”She asked her mother innocent but still in anger

Her mother was surprised by the sudden question of her daughter.

When her elder brother joked to her to enlighten her mood” Who said that my little sister is a kid, you are my 100 years old grandmother, So GrandMaa why are you looking upset. Who makes my little sister angry I will throw away that monkey from our balcony “

Instead, Meghna became more irritated hearing her brother's words. She became angry when her brother tagged Dharam as Monkey, nevertheless, she did not take out his name from her mouth.

'Maa, tell Dada[brother] not to bother me?”

Meghna’s mother show fake eyes to her son “You both sister and brother, still remain kids, no one would of you grow up”

Dharam loves when Sanyogita catches his upset mood and solaces him with her sweet words.

Yes, it's obvious to him that she was one of the sweetest girls to him. After that day he commenced to like her more, seeing those concerns in her eyes for him. He realized she was so concerned about him. She is a nice girl.

He recalled those days when He, Meghna, and Sanyogita used to eat puchka after the end of their group study. He got more time to enjoy her company.

Her smiling face raises the heartbeats in his chest. But only for the sake of his father he had to leave their group study so he had to Miss that little brief of a chance to see her after the end of school. 

During the early days how he furtively adored her when those small hair buds fell on her face mistakenly and she tugged them behind her ears, it made butterflies in his belly. But his fantasy world intruded after coming 4th in the final exam of the class-9,  that day his father scolded him awfully. 

He had been admitted to a renewable private coaching institution for engineering entrance exam preparation. All-day he hardly could get the time to talk with anyone including his treasure Sanyogita. He didn't want to Miss school as if in case it happened those few moments of opportunities also would be snatched away from his fortune to see Sanyogita who was still clueless about his feelings. He has not even expressed his feelings to Prithvi nor Meghna. According to him, she was so childish and still immature about this topic. And for Prithvi, his father already warned him to stay away from his company. Gradually he was getting confined between the high ambition of his father, lots of pressure of studies, and his first love, Sanyogita. Even he couldn't get the chance to confess his feelings to her due to the fear of his father.

Meghna took out the sketch of Dharam which she had drawn once when she was in class -11. Those days she missed Dharam so badly because he visited the hill station with his family. But she hid it from him very cleverly when he almost caught her when he came to meet her at her flat.

Meghna was thinking about those days which she had buried beneath her rib cage and did not tell anyone, not even Sanyogita within the last 10 years, that guilt never left her. She always had the fear of what Dharam would think after knowing the truth about what she had done with her best friend at the school. Will Dharam hate her after knowing the truth, will Prithvi forgive her.

She thought about the incident which had happened in class. How she put the cigarette packet inside Sanyogita’s bag just a few minutes before the school assembly. She did not concentrate on the study the previous night because the thought was playing inside her small head when she saw the expensive cigarette packet on the table near the sofa of their living room, in late-night she kept it inside her bag. She did not want to bother Sanyogita all she wanted to make ashamed of her in front of Dharam who thought of Sanyogita as a sincere, chivalrous, honest girl who was, even more, superior than Meghna. But she never imagined the teacher would scold Sanyogita awfully, moreover after all these efforts seeing Dharam taking Sanyogita’s side she was startled. She was feeling guilty and also disheartened from inside. After the midterm exams she was always there for him, during childhood when they played on the ground she fought with all those local wicked kids only for the sake of Dharam. She did so many things to get single attention from him but still, she couldn't reach his heart. He always loves Sanyogita, and it’s torn her heart.

When Prithvi told the teacher maybe someone trapped Sanyogita hearing that her palpitation goes on higher. There was a rush of adrenaline in her body, she was sweating heavily, her palms were getting cold due to nervousness. But she became more surprised when Prithvi took the blame on his head, which made her more guilty. When she returned home neither she talked to anyone nor she had food.

In the late-night,

.Meghna was sitting on a chair in front of the dining table and she kept her hand on the rice on the plate  but didn't eat anything although she was present physically her mind was somewhere else

Meghna! beta, why did you not start eating? Meghna’s mother called her

Meghna, Meghna Her father jerk her gently 

By the jerking, she gained back her senses “humm”.

“What happened beta? Why are you not having your dinner? Did not you like the dish? asked by Meghna’s mother is concerned 

She replied 

“No Maa, it's good “she started eating

Madhumita[ Meghna’s mother] glance at her husband who blinks his eyes once and assured her through the gesture of his eyes He will be asked his daughter 

“ beta have you a fight with any of your friends?”Meghna’s father asked

“No Bapi[dad], I haven't fought with my friends, everything is alright .”

“Then have you tensed about studying ?”

Meghna simply node her head

“Don’t worry beta, everything will be alright and your friend Sanyogita also be with you I know you both will make us proud,” Meghna’s father encourage his daughter 

“Okay, Bapi” she gave them a tight smile [Hearing Sanyogita’s name from her father, Meghna felt more guilty for her deed. She knew everyone loves Sanyogita whom she loved too but today’s incident was killing her from inside]

Meghna entered her room and wanted to dismiss the matter from her head and started her study. But whenever she opened her books Dharam’s face had been flashing in front of her eyes.

She reminisced the day how all these things happened a few weeks later of their group study. When she asked him why he agreed to group study with them, Dharam told her among the girls she was her only best buddy, how can he refuse her proposal. Meghna was so delighted after getting to know that Dharam thought about her so much.

But gradually she felt insecure about her friendship. How Dharam gives more importance to Sanyogita over her. It was the day when all the three of them were going above the footpath talking with each other suddenly Sanyogita fell on the ground and got collapsed by a few rods which had been kept near a construction site. 

Meghna caught Sanyogita’s hand “Sanyo, are you okay,” She asked her worriedly 

Sanyogita stood up by getting support from Meghna who saw her knee slightly cut and a drop of blood started to come out from her fair skin. 

“Sanyo, don’t worry I always kept a bandage inside my bag,” Dharam told, he was going to put the bandage on her leg, But Sanyogita interrupts him” It’s okay Dharam I will put on it myself, thank you for it”

Dharam glanced at her once then gave her a tight smile.

Meghna did not like it however did not know the reason behind this.

All those blurry incidents gradually flashing in front of her eyes like a reel” On the day after the end of the group study seeing a puchka stall Meghna requested them to go there but Dharam was not in a mood to enjoy it but when Sanyogita requested him he agreed. Meghna was totally confused although she had dismissed the matter from her head she did not give much attention to it. It was another day the rain had appeared suddenly  Meghna and Sanyogita both forget to bring an umbrella but Fortunately Dharam always carry his umbrella inside his bag Meghna knew about it but He gives the umbrella to Sanyogita instead of her, it’s hurt her she asked herself why he gives it to Sanyogita he could give it to her too! During the group study a pen dropped from Sanyogita’s hand she was about to pick up the pen but Dharam has also reached their mistakenly their head hit against each other although that day Meghna made fun of them by telling them they should hit their head once more unless horns would be grown up on the head of them both. Sanyogita and Dharam were smiling at her remark. But today it burns her stomach thinking about the incident.

June had arrived so the school once again reopened after the hot summer vacation, after hearing the news school will be half-day for today. Everyone was very happy. They all have discussed what they had done during the summer vacation. Arjun had learned many more things in the carate. Raghav again got plenty of time with his guitar. Meghna visited her Uncle and Aunty's house in Siliguri and also visited Hill station, Darjeeling. Sanyogita visited Shimla with her father and Grandmother. She was very happy as her father gave all his attention to her, not to his work during those 10 days. Prithvi visited his village hometown and also practiced football lightheartedly. Dharam told them he visited at his Mama’s house but the truth was he was studying during the whole summer vacation which she hid from them. They compare their heights with each other. Raghav laughs at Arjun as he became 0ne inches taller than him who used to call him Chota haati.

Everyone decided they all would visit at a nearby ice-cream parlor as it was a hot summer day. Dharam also joined them as only he could enjoy his life when he was with his friend's group.

Dharam’s jaw dropped when he saw his father's car in front of the main large entrance gate.

“Dharam what happened, will you not go with us?”Prithvi asked 

“No.bro, you people go and enjoy, neither will I feel bad “Dharam replied and ran toward his father's car in haste. He was worried about what his father would do if he saw him with his friends and also with Prithvi.

He was sitting inside the car in the driving seat. Dharam was very much disappointed and at the end having no option except to return to his home with his father. He bid bye to everyone by waving his hand towards them.

All the friends were feeling dejected. Seeing their upset mood Sanyogiota requested them to eat Golla from a nearby stall. Meghna agreed with Sanyogita and also Arjun and Raghav. Prithvi wasn't in a mood but when Sanyogita pleaded with him he couldn't abandon her request. He started to enjoy her company. Due to some circumstances, Where Dharam was gradually going away from Prithvi who was getting closer to Sanyogita as she was also glad to get a good friend within Prithvi.

Prithvi failed in 3 subjects at test, he gets 30 in physical science 

35 in mathematics and 28 in History, while the passing marks were 45 in 60.

Prithvi’s father felt ashamed in front of the class teacher. He became furious at him. Prithvi’s father wanted to make him an Engineer but he did not want to be. His father forced him to focus more on the science group as it was necessary for cracking joint entrance. He needed a good concept for those subjects.

At home his father slapped him so hard, he was continuously slapping on him, beating him with his belt, Prithvi was lying on the cold floor of the house helplessly “Baba, please don’t beat me! Prithvi growled in pain, tears dropped from his eyes 

“You Rascal, how many times should I warn you? It's useless. My blood-sucking leech, I have worked hard the whole day at the office and here you ruined all my money. Today I will not spare you, scoundrel. Today I will kill you, Rascal, my money eating monster”

Prithvi was lying on the floor crying heavily. His mother was trying to stop his father but those were of no use.

“Baba!don't beat chote , next time he will do good” Prithvi's elder brother tried to stop his father but he didn't listen to him.

His father beat him until his blood became cool. He tore all the photographs which Prithvi bought after collecting all his pocket money for a few months, those are all his favorite players.

His idol,” Only for this you ruined your study. From today If I hear anything regarding sports in this house or also if I see You rascal in the local clubhouse then you will have to pay for this. I will warn the local club that you will not participate in any football games, not even in simple locality games. Now away from my eyes,``shouted Mr.Adhikary whose blood was still boiling in anger.

Even he was going to throw all those medals, prizes, trophies which Prithvi had won in sports in school and also in their locality areas’ games

. Mrs. Adhikary continues pleading for restraint.

Prithvi was continuously sobbing that night. Neither does he eat anything nor can close his eyelids for a second. He glanced around his room and he felt like someone had twisted his chest, shuttered his dreams. His mother tried to calm down the situation. She requested her husband to think once about their youngest son. Although he is a teenager now, he is still a kid. And which kid did not wished-for games. He got fewer marks this time. That did not mean he would always remain the same. You should think about this matter with a cool mind.

The next day Prithvi was absent from school. He didn't want to show all his bruises to the students unless they would laugh at him.

another day,

Prithvi discusses the incident with Arjun, Raghav, and Dharam. His father gave him a condition that he had to come first in the upcoming Pre-test unless he had to forget football for his entire life. Prithvi did not have anyone whom he could say his entire life is growing with surrounding football which was his life, how could he forget this.

If he could not complete the challenge given by his father he wouldn't be permitted for the District Tournament which will be held in December while he had his pretest in November. Only 2 months had left for the Pre-test via which he had to prove himself. He had to practice games and study for exams together else he had given up on his dreams.

Hearing him 

Arjun said “Don’t worry Prithvi we will definitely sort out a path for you”

“Yes Prithvi ,we will be ready to help you but how ?”Raghav was thinking continuously 

“I have an idea, Dharam can you write Prithvi’s name on the paper instead of yours”

“No, Raghav teacher will be caught Dharam in the examination hall while signing on the papers, “Arjun said

“Then? If uncle tells Prithvi to fail in 3 subjects more then it will be easier for Prithvi “Raghav quipped

“Shut up! Raghav, we are discussing in a serious matter” Arjun Scolded

"Sorry"

Prithvi did not reply that he was totally in a Dilemma.

“Prithvi we can help you in cheating in the test, then you can easily get a pass but still will it be possible to come first in exams,” Arjun said disappointedly 

Sanyogita heard all the conversation between the boys.

“Shut up Guys! You are all Prithvi’s friends. How can you give him the suggestion of cheating? It's the wrong way and you are showing him a wrong path for success.”

“No Sanyo you are getting us wrongly. It is difficult for Prithvi to come first” Arjun answered 

“Yes, Sanyo! Arjun is right. If uncle challenged Prithvi for sport undoubtedly nobody can beat him but in academics, Prithvi is weak in maths and average at the remaining subjects” Raghav response

Sanyogita looked at Dharam who remained silent in the whole conversation

“Dharam Do you think so too?? 

Dharam looked at Arjun, Raghav, and then at Prithvi who was looking very upset. Then he looked at Sanyogita

“Sanyo,I don’t know, I also want to help Prithvi but how. Uncle has given a tough challenge. I am confused myself""

Dharam wanted to help Prithvi but he had known well what his father said to him and after the exam day incident, His father mocked him by taking Prithvi's name at their house and also warned him to stay away from him.

  Sanyogita looked at Dharam for a few seconds with wrinkled eyebrows  “She knew what Dharam had told her once but still she did not accept this from him”

Then she glanced at Prithvi who was standing at the balcony gazing at the football ground. Sanyogita walked closer towards Prithvi and said “Prithvi look at me? Don’t lose hope, we will definitely find a way”

Prithvi turned around at her and looked at her “Sanyo,don’t worry ,nothing happened to me. I haven't made it for football, that’s why I get obstructions in my way. Don't worry about me I will be fine “Prithvi replied her after seeing the disappointment in her eyes for him  

“NO, Prithvi, don't you worry we will bring cheat papers for you and also help you during exams, but your football playing will never be stopped "” Arjun said Raghav has also joined him” yes Prithvi we will help you”

“But guys I know you are all want to help Prithvi but it’s a wrong route “Sanyogita suggest once again “if by chance Prithvi will have caught he will be punished, “She said in concerned

“But we have no other option, Sanyo please try to understand,” Arjun said

“Sanyo I know the way is wrong but in such a short time…”Dharam became helpless, also ashamed of himself as he could not do anything for Prithvi due to his father' whose words echoing in his mind whenever those thoughts come into his mind.

Seeing Dharam silent, Sanyogita shifted her gaze to Prithvi from him.“Prithvi promise me You will not cheat in the exam"

Prithvi glanced at Sanyogita surprisingly. He was in a dilemma. He was continuously staring at her innocent eyes which were gazing straight against his hazel brown eyes.

“Sanyo,I know you want good for me but still I can’t..

She did not give him the chance to complete his sentence.

“Prithvi promised me, you won't cheat . Whatever may be happening but still you will not cheat in the papers”

Prithvi looked once at Arjun, then Raghav and Dharam while all of them glancing at each other in surprise, also thought what answer Prithvi would give to Sanyogita.

Then he shifted his gaze to Sanyogita” Okay I will never cheat in any test” Prithvi did not know why he could not say no to her.

Sanyogita nodded her head with a hopeful smile, Prithvi gave her a tight smile as a reply.
