Part 51

Roshni: DAD AGAR AAPNE ARJUN KO…

The call disconnected before she could complete. She collapsed on the sofa………………………

Her brain fired at an incredible speed. If anything happened to him, she would never be able to forgive herself. She hated her father. She threw away a vase in anger. Why couldn’t he just leave her alone? Why couldn’t her mother just leave with her when she had the chance? At least, she wouldn’t have to put up with him and now Arjun wouldn’t have been in danger.

Ten minutes later, she grabbed a wad of cash and stuffed it into her jeans, running out of the house.

Flashback Ends

Riya: ek second, ek second

Arjun: kya?

Riya: aap kaise abduct hue?

Arjun: mera khabri bik gaya. usne mujhse kaha tha ki use information deni hai. main usse milna gaya tha. kisine mere gale par dart maara. Meri body weak ho gayi. They surrounded me. I tried to fight but

He shrugs

Riya: oh, ok continue, fir?

He felt a lump forming in his throat: fir maine use aakhri baar dekha

She placed her palm in his to comfort him. He teared up.

Flashback

Roshni stepped out of the cab a few metres away from the mills. She sprinted the rest of the way. Her father’s goons were all around. Recognizing the one waiting for her at the entrance, she snapped.

Roshni: Michael! Arjun kaha hai?!

He smirked and gestured to follow him. Gritting her teeth, she followed him inside.

The ground beneath her feet gave away. At a stone’s throw away, Arjun was lying on the ground, bruised, beaten and bleeding all over.

Roshni ran, falling to the ground beside him: ARJUN!!!

She patted his cheeks and tried to wake him up.

Roshni: Arjun! Arjun… aankhein kholo, Arjun!

He stirred hearing her voice. His body was still paining yet, he felt numb. He couldn’t move. The drugs they had injected were heavy. It was as if he was paralyzed. Not to mention the amount of beatings he had received. With great difficulty, he forced open his eyes.

Arjun(weakly): Ro… Rosh…

Tears flew out of her eyes: Arjun…

Arjun: tum… ky… kyun…

A voice called out: Roshni

She froze. Her eyes closed letting more tears fall. Honestly speaking, she did not care. She turned to see her father standing there. Her body filled with loathe for him as she stood up.

Roshni: KYA CHAHIYE AAPKO?! Pehle Sameer Aur Ab Arjun? Mujhe Chain Se Jeene Kyun Nahi De Sakte?!

Sikandar: tum bhaagi kyun?

Roshni: Aapki Wajah Se!!

Sikandar rolled his eyes: oh please! Apni maa ki tarah baat karna band karo (she clenched her fists) aur tumhe ek policewaale ke ilawa aur koi nahi mila shaadi karne ke liye? Kabhi socha hai meri reputation ka kya hoga? sab kuch diya maine tumhe! paisa, power, luxury lekin tumhe is do take ke…

Roshni: Pati Hai Woh Mera! Aur Hum Jaise Bhi Hai Khush Hai! Nahi Chahiye Mujhe Aapse Kuch Bhi!! (she pointed her finger at him) Jaane Dijiye Arjun Ko!

Sikandar: jaane du? kyun?

Roshni: WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT?!!?

Sikandar: You!

She glared at him.

Sikandar: waapis aao mere paas, Goa chalo mere saath, main Arjun ko jaane dunga

Moaning in pain, Arjun murmured: Rosh…. Nahi… na, nahi, tum…

A goon came forward to kick him. Roshni gasped as he coughed up blood. Her mind and heart fought. She did not want to go back to that world. But seeing Arjun in that state was unacceptable for her.

Arjun continued to refuse: nahi… Rosh…ni tum, tum… nahi jao…

Fresh tears rolled down her cheek. She went on her knees and hugged him. His hands couldn’t even go around her. Her voice cracked. She hugged him as tight as she could, savouring the feeling of his touch.

Roshni whispered into his ears: I love you, I always will! I’m sorry Arjun. I’m so sorry!! I love you, I love you so much!

Arjun: Rosh…

She let go and stood up firm.

Roshni: theek hai (Sikandar smirked) par aap Arjun ko jaane denge

Arjun: Noooo!!!.... Roshni…

He attempted to flail his hands to stop her but they barely moved.

Sikandar turned smug. He waited till Roshni walked over to him. He gestured to Michael who nodded in response.

Roshni: ab use jaane dijiye

Sikandar: of course (he pulled out a knife) main use duniya se jaane dunga

Roshni: NAHII!!!!

She lunged forward but Michael grabbed her. She tried to free herself.

Roshni: CHODO MUJHE!! DAD YOU CAN’T DO THIS!! AAP KYUN USE MAARNA CHAHTE HAI?! DAD!! NAHIII!!! DAD!!! NOOOO!!!! PLEAASEE NOOOOOOO!!!!! DAAADDD!!!!

Sikandar doesn’t answer. He stepped towards the man still muttering his daughter’s name. Arjun would pay for corrupting her, for taking her away from him.

Her heartbeat increased with every second. Pausing for a second, she gathered all her strength and broke free.

Michael: Roshni!

Sikandar raised his hand. He is pulled behind by Roshni.

Roshni: NOOO!!!

No one had the guts to go between the duo. It would only make things worse. Sikandar would kill them if anyone as much as touched her. He tried to free himself. Michael came ahead but didn’t know how to break up the struggle.

Sikandar: Roshni chodo!!

Roshni: Aap Arjun Ko Kuch Nahi Karenge!!

She was surprised at the strength with which she was fighting back but she wouldn’t let him hurt her love.

Sikandar: Roshni!!

He tried to dodge her but she swerved. Roshni gasped as the knife stabbed her. Her stomach ripped due to the angle. Time froze.

Arjun: ROSHNIII!!!

Sikandar stepped back in shock. She fell to the ground in a pool of her own blood.

A whisper escaped his Sikandar’s mouth: Roshni…. NAHIII!!! ROSHNII!!!!

Her breaths laboured. Her eyes locked with Arjun’s. She stretched out her hand as her eyes moistened.

Roshni muttered: Arjun…

Arjun: Rosh…

He used all of his will power and energy for wanting to hold her. He dragged his hand as much as he could.

Sikandar pulled out the knife. She gasped again. Her blood flow increased. Yet, she did not even turn to look at him. She continued to gaze at Arjun.

Sikandar filled with anguish. He was livid on seeing her pining for him in what were her final moments. He found a new hate for Arjun. His anger only increased on seeing her name etched upon his skin. With rage flowing through his veins, he screamed and lunged forward.

Arjun bled as Sikandar slit his hand where his tattoo was. He dug the knife deep, cruelly. He sliced it again and again. He wanted to remove Roshni from his life.

Arjun didn’t scream. He did not shout. He did not wince. The pain didn’t bother him. He was only looking at her. His hand, outstretched in a futile attempt to hold her one last time.

Roshni(softly): I love you

Arjun: Ro…

His senses gave away. He never reached her.

Flashback Ends

Arjun looked away but his tears betrayed him. Riya felt water dripping from her eyes as well. Her gaze fell to the bandage on his arm. Controlling herself, she placed a hand on his shoulder.

His voice cracked as he spoke: woh mujhe bachane ki koshish kar rahi thi Riya (turning to her) she died because of me… meri wajah se

She shook her head and embraced him as he broke down. She stroked his hair as he cried his heart out.

It was a long time before he was able to compose himself. He slowly separated from her. Her hands went to her pockets to check for her handkerchief. Riya held it out to him. He took a deep breath and pressed the kerchief to his eyes. The cloth absorbed the left over tears from his red eyes.

Meanwhile, she went to get him a glass of water. Arjun downed the entire glass in a single go. She held his hand and entwined their fingers.

Riya: please apne aapko ko dosh mat dijiye

Arjun: Ri…

Riya: agar unki jagah aap hote toh aap bhi apne pyaar ko bachane ke liye kuch bhi karte na?

Arjun snapped: usse dard kam nahi hota Riya!

Riya: kya khud ko dosh dekar kam hoga?

He hung his head. She squeezed his shoulder.

Arjun: I… mujhe nahi pata Riya. jab bhi woh din mere aankhon ke saamne aata hai. aisa lagta hai jaise… jaise koi mere andar se meri jaan kheench raha ho. aur fir Sam ne bhi mujhe chod diya. (looking up) Main kaise kahu usse? Ki main chah kar bhi uski help nahi kar paaya. (tearing up) I tried… so hard par drugs

She hugged him again: shh! I know

He tightened his hold around her, burying his head in her shoulder.

Riya: mujhe aap par pura bharosa hai

Arjun: kaise?

She smiles: kyunki mujhe pata hai aap kabhi bhi use nahi todenge

Arjun: aur agar…

She pulled back: koi agar magar nahi. aur rahi baat aapke Sam ki toh hum unko baad mein sambhalenge, meri style mein

Arjun’s eyes widened: tum kya karne waali ho?

Riya: soch lungi tab tak

Arjun: par…

Riya: woh mera department hai, chodiye aap main track par ayiye

Arjun: lekin Ri…

She glares at him. He silences himself.

Riya(thoughtfully): so technically, Roshni ki honor killing hui

Arjun(confused): I guess… I mean, woh mujhe isliye maarna chahta tha kyunki Roshni ne mujhse shaadi ki

Riya: hmm… anyway Birju

Arjun composes himself: ha bas utna hi pata hai mujhe, tum agar us ladki ke baare mein kuch pata karo toh aage lead mil sakti hai. oh and aaj main Vikram sir se baat kar raha tha na? waha bhi ek lead hai.

He narrated the entire story to her.

Riya took a deep breath: wow! Too much confusion

Arjun: it’s just two people, isme kya confusion hai

Riya: I meant ki, information overload ho gaya

Realising what she said, he looked at his watch. It was beyond 11.

Arjun: bahot late ho gaya hai, main chalta hun

She stood up with him: nahi (he raised his eyebrow) aap theek nahi hai, main aapko aise nahi jaane dungi

Arjun: Riya I’ll be fine

Riya: promise?

Arjun: pakka

She smiled. He hugs her, whispering a thank you in her ear. He stayed that way for a while, gathering comfort from her.

She walks him to the door: good night

Arjun: good night

He kissed her forehead, making her smile.

Riya: dhyaan rakhna aap apna

Arjun: hmm, kal milte hai

Riya: woh case bhi pending hai, uff! Agar ek aur aaya toh kaam bhi badh jaayega upar se bomb waala case ATS ko transfer karna hai woh alag.

Arjun: paperwork toh tumhe hi handle karna hoga

Riya: wahi toh, anyway, bye!

Arjun: bye Riya!

She leans against the doorway as he climbs down the steps. Thinking something, he stops. He turns.

Arjun: tum puch rahi thi na?

Riya: kya?

He sprinted up and kissed her cheek. Her jaw fell to the floor.

Arjun: ye alag hai

He winked and drove off, leaving her blushing. Her hand goes up to her cheek. She felt her face heat up. Clenching her eyes shut she ran off to her bedroom and buried her face in her pillow……………………….
