Greetings Friends, and Allies!

Media in the form of movies and television has had a tradition of unifying people all across the globe since its conception in the late 1880s. Whether it’s providing people with a topic of conversation around the water coolers at their work, exciting the youth about an upcoming plot, or providing a global mutual commonality in terms of likes or dislikes, they have been an exemplary medium for progression. This progression could work to remove the distance between two strangers or educate an entire population about an incredibly serious matter that has been overlooked for so long.

Indeed, the LGBTQ+ community has also benefited greatly through the depiction of characters who identify as someone from the spectrum. From fighting against the horrendous stereotypical portrayals of a highly effeminate gay man, or a hyper-masculine lesbian woman, to leading important discourses regarding the need to have accurate representation on our screens, we have gotten the opportunity to witness incredibly nuanced stories surrounding these individuals.

Due to COVID, many of us have found ourselves locked up at home with not much to do for entertainment. If you are the kind to watch movies or television shows to bide some time, why not add something to your queue that is focused on LGBTQ+?

If you are at a loss from where to start, check out the list down below for the recommendations provided by your fellow members and me.

Needless to say, you are more than welcome to engage in a conversation about the multimedia that is recommended. Just remember to follow IF’s Rule of Conduct and keep the conversation as civil as possible.
