Chapter 1
As she entered the college, every boy looked at her with admiration. Some waved a hello, and others just let out a wistful sigh.
Maya Mehrotra loved her new college and the attention she got, but what she hated was this girl who was standing before her. She never failed to catch Maya's attention - Scarlett Witch.
Would she have to deal with her here too?
As Maya saw her brushing her wavy hair off her face, her heartbeat skipped again. Whenever she did that, it seemed to her like Scarlett was perfect. She was gorgeous and the hottest girl in the school. But then her awful temper, her tendency to trouble Maya every other day, and her tendency to get detention atleast twice a week, made her seem less than perfect. Other than that though, she was a catch. But that didn't mean that Maya liked her in any way. The whole school knew they were enemies.
"Listen, I cannot stay with you," she said out of the blue, confusing Maya.
"What?"
"What - what? We have been given the same room and I want to shift!" Scarlett said with finality.
"Come with me, we need to go to the office right now."
Literally being pulled by her, Maya had to almost run to keep pace with Scarlett.
"Sorry girls, you have to share a dorm for at least a month," the office attendant said what both of them were dreading to hear.
"But there must be some way," Maya said calmly, trying her best not to sound desperate. "I can't live with her."
Scarlett turned towards her with a cold gaze and all Maya could think was how did she manage to look so hot all the time.
"Neither am I dying to live with you!" Scarlett spoke in rage. "But it seems like we have no option."
"Just for a month, ladies. I assure you I can make different arrangements for you after." The office attendant smiled.
"Thank you ma'am," both Maya and Scarlett said in unison and glared at each other the next second.
The girls walked towards their dorm balancing their bags and other stuff, trying not to trip on their heels.
"I can't believe I am stuck with you for a month!" Scarlett said in frustration as Maya rolled her eyes. "I thought I had gotten rid of you after school but you had to take admission in the same university! I know we'll meet for just a few hours but still, I can't stand you even for a minute and I am going to share my whole room with you!"
"Have I ever told you that you're the most frustratingly annoying girl I have ever met?" Maya said all of a sudden.
Scarlett looked at her, her eyes widening.
"I am offended!" she said, which made Maya roll her eyes again.
"Oh! Here we are!" Maya said as she spotted room number 12.
As they entered, they found two beds against opposite walls of the room with a cupboard in the middle and a table and chair next to each bed. For the first time in their lives they agreed on something when they decided on which bed they'd take.
The next morning, Maya woke up with a start when her alarm went off. She looked around disoriented, taking a while to realize she was in her new dorm. The noise from the washroom told her Scarlett must be in the shower. She had a class in two hours, and she didn't want to be late for her first class. Getting up quickly, she gathered her clothes to get ready, praying fervently that Scarlett would be out soon. Thankfully, she did and Maya found time to shower and dress before making her way to class.
Scarlett bought a coffee from the college canteen and marched towards her class. She decided to skip breakfast as she didn't want to be late. As she neared her class, she was shocked to see Maya making her way in.
"Not her again! Arrgh!" Scarlett screamed internally.
"Oh God! Not her again!" Maya muttered in dismay.
They both looked at each other.
"No, no, no."
"No!!!!!!!!!" they exclaimed aloud in chorus.

Even if Maya and Scarlett had somehow made peace with being in the same class, they could never make peace with living together.
They didn't want to but they would always end up troubling each other.
Once Scarlett was holding coffee while walking and talking on the phone and it split accidentally, destroying Maya's notebooks and stationary. Maya was livid and to pay her back, she poured water on Scarlett's bed. Scarlett had to sleep on a mat on the floor.
Then Maya, mistakenly thinking Scarlett wanted to discard her hair bands that were on the floor, threw them in the garbage. This of course, made Scarlett mad and she exacted revenge by ruining Maya's white dress that she had planned to wear to the welcome ceremony in her department. She had to arrange for another dress at the last moment.
These were just some of the misadventures that Maya and Scarlett faced as roomies. Their constant desire for revenge did not cease, but only intensified with time.

On the evening of the welcome ceremony, Scarlett emerged from a hurried shower, her movements quickening in her anxiety not to be late. But as she wrapped a towel around herself, the lights went off. She had always been petrified of darkness, and her heart began thudding painfully fast.
"Aahhh!" she screamed and began fumbling at the door, trying desperately to unlock it.
Within seconds, she felt the door open wide and a hand wrapped around her waist. Scarlett almost screamed again in panic, her heart rate accelerating dangerously.
"Are you okay?" She heard Maya's voice and was immediately relieved.
The next moment her heart stopped when she realized she was Maya's arms wrapped in only a towel! Heat slowly flooded her cheeks and for a moment, she just stood there dumbstruck, not able to say or do anything.
Maya had her arms firmly wrapped around Scarlett's waist. She had rushed inside instinctively as soon as she had heard the scream. It only just struck her that she was holding Scarlett in her arms. And she only had a tiny towel around her.
Scarlett's breath was caught in her throat, and she could feel her heart beat at an abnormal pace. Her hands were holding the towel a little too tightly in its place. She felt Maya remove her hands from her waist and then stiffening. Taking few steps forward, Scarlett created some distance between them. She still had her back to Maya and couldn't find the courage to turn and face her.
Maya grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer, her back hitting her chest. Scarlett was scared the towel would betray her and fall off at any moment and she clutched it tightly, trembling with anticipation. Maya gently trailed her finger over Scarlett's bare neck, moving downwards to shoulder and down her arm. Scarlett gasped at the exquisite sensations, holding her towel tighter. Maya tightened her hold on her waist and moved closer pushing her hair away from her shoulder. Then she dropped a fleeting kiss on Scarlett's neck. Scarlett let out a moan and bit her lower lip.
Suddenly the lights came back on startling them. Maya released Scarlett abruptly and rushed out of the washroom.
Scarlett racked her hand in her hair, and let out a shaky breath.
What the hell had just happened?
