So this is about Maze. Who Maze, you ask? I am glad, but honestly, I am surprised. How do you not know the demon from hell living and hunting down criminals in LA? Wait, please don't tell me that you don't know about demons and Devil and the coup they staged on God? So, you know about that? Oh good, that makes my storytelling time shorter.
So, after getting his ass kicked to hell because he let his twin brother manipulate him into fighting his father, Lucifer got bored in hell and came to Earth with his most trusted demon soldier, Mazekeen. Mazekeen, eldest daughter and look-alike of Lilith, recently got to know that her mother had left them all to find some sense of purpose in her life and had died. Maze had issues, like loads of them. The commitment issue topped the list. Not to mention the anger issues which made her fight Lucifer and get Chloe kidnapped and stuff, but yeah, she did cause a lot of trouble unknowingly for Lucifer and everyone she held dear.
"You cannot cut off people." Linda looked at her friend and sighed. Maze was lying on the couch, playing with her knives, pretending not to listen. But Linda had seen too many patients in her lifetime to know when someone was listening to her and when someone was pretending to ignore her.
"You have to join us at Lux tonight."
"And meet Chloe, Lucifer, and Amendial? No thanks," she snapped.
"It's a ladies' night."
"Then I'll have to deal with Ella."
"Listen to me, Mazekeen, if I don't see your sultry ass in the club this evening, I'll...I'll punch you," Linda yelled, being slightly unprofessional for a therapist. It was definitely not a good idea threatening a demon from hell, but, she had three patients back to back and Maze had hijacked her lunch break.
Maze raised an eyebrow at her, smirked, and left. But she knew Linda was right. Plus, some booze would be really nice. And she didn't have to go back to Lilith's empty apartment that she now had to call her home. Maybe, just maybe, after ages, she could get laid too. So yeah, Lux it was.
But things didn't really go as she wished. Chloe was angry at her, Ella still whining about her serial killer ex-boyfriend, and Linda was awkward. So Maze stepped out of the club. There went her plan of getting some action.
She pulled on her overcoat closer to herself and leaned on the wall of the Lux, staring at nothing in particular. She knew her emotions had gotten the better of her, and she regretted it so damn much. It hurt seeing the steely look that Chloe gave her. Chloe's relationship with Maze aside, she was the only one except Linda that Maze had actually considered a friend.
Her reverie broke when there was a loud crash in the nearby alley, and Maze ran in the direction of the sound. She peeked in the alley and saw a couple fighting. Nothing new, so she turned to leave. But the man raised his hand, and Maze had had enough.
"Hey you, hands off her!"
The man blinked at her and pulled down his hand. To his credit, he looked ashamed of himself. He then left without saying a word or giving the women a second glance.
The girl, woman (?) fell on her knees, shaking. Maze now had a chance to look at her closely. She looked like a foreigner, Asian, if her geography was right. She was dressed in a pink salwar kameez and a white sweater. Her hair was tied back in a high ponytail, but a few strands still managed to cover her face.
"Are you ok?" she asked, but when the other woman didn't reply, she muttered, "Good chat," and turned to leave, but the woman started sobbing.
The feeling that Maze never knew existed until Trixie (Chloe's daughter) showed up in Lux all those years ago, warmed inside her and she sat opposite the woman.
"I am Maze, and you are?" She looked up at her. The parting of her hair was adorned red and she wore jewelry which was a sharp contrast to her super sad face.
That was 6 months ago, now their life had fallen into a pleasant, predictable pattern with Meera and Maze both learning each other's peculiarities'.
Meera entering her life had been a sudden, uncalled-for event. After Maze had no idea what to say to her in the alley, some six months ago, she had offered Meera shelter in Lilith's house. She had offered that Meera stay with her till she figured her shit out. But now Meera had a job, yet she was here. They had spoken of Meera leaving someday, but she had never left. And Maze thanked every celestial being for that.
Having Meera around had changed things drastically. The house was cleaner than ever. Maybe even Lilith hadn't kept it this clean. The first time she was cleaning it, Maze had snapped at Meera, but she had told her that the messy house was triggering her OCD and she couldn't help it, so Maze had let her have her fun.
Coming back home didn't feel scary anymore to Maze. Before she got a job as a graphic designer, Meera would blast Bollywood music and cook an Indian - Punjabi, to be specific - dish. Now, Meera would bring her work home and complete it while Bollywood music blasted through the house.
Meera kept Maze grounded to an amount that scared her. After seeing her sulk about Lucifer, two weeks after their first meet, she had practically "dragged her ass" as Meera called it, to Lux and had thrown an "Indian-mom-glare" at everyone, asking them to sort their shit out. Lucifer's eyebrows had gone up to his hairline, listening to a meek Indian girl yelling at him and everyone in Hindi but had begrudgingly decided to give Maze a shot.
Charlie and Trixie loved Meera, and it was overwhelming seeing them tucked into bed during winter nights as she told them stories. She later confessed she was telling them Bollywood movie plots, and that made Maze fall off the couch laughing.
But things really weren't that sunshine-y for all of them. Micheal still tried to pry at her fears, and that sucked. Micheal is Lucifer's douchebag twin brother, who preys on people's fears to do his bidding. That's how he had actually convinced Maze to pull off all the mess, in the first place, but manipulating her abandonment issues.
Meera would call home every day, and remind them how her husband had left her on the streets of LA a few days after the marriage, but her mother would refuse to accept the explanation. She would ask Meera to go back to her husband and apologize and ask her to stay away from "bad" influences. In case you didn't get the drift, Maze being the bad influence. But Meera's sister liked her, so that was good, and her dad didn't want her to go back to Piyush, but he was untrusting of Maze. "What are you going to do if she makes you get into some shady business?"
"Since when is Graphic designing shady?" would be Meera's cheeky response.
Some days Meera would meet Piyush, something about making amends, and would return home upset. Then, she would go on a major cleaning spree, and that's how most of Lilith's stuff had landed in the dustbin.
"Maze, I am home," Meera yelled from the doorway, hanging the key on the key holder.
The house was eerily silent except for a few mumbled noises coming from Maze's room. Worry kicked in Meera, and she dashed towards the room.
Once, a man Maze had thrown in jail had come seeking revenge and had almost killed Meera, who had smashed a vase on his head. And she was really proud of herself for doing that.
So she opened Maze's room's door and stood looking at the occupants in shock. Maze was on top of a man, who was naked as a baby, and that was it. Meera fled the scene and sat on the porch, confused and embarrassed as hell.
The couple soon walked out of the house, the man still dressing up as Maze pushed him.
"I am sorry about it," she said as she sat next to Meera after driving her partner away.
"What for? It's your house, do as you please," she grumbled, the last bit in Hindi. Maze looked at her for a few seconds and realized she was right; it was her house, so why should she apologize? It wasn't like Meera had walked in on her having sex for the first time. Her sex toys lay around the house, and Meera would huff, but would never complain about them and get Maze to put them back in place.
"I don't know," Maze shrugged and pushed aside a hair strand that was on Meera's face.
"Don't do that," Meera snapped, and Maze looked at her in confusion. Maze liked playing with Meera's hair, and she was never so grumpy about it.
"Meera, are you ok?"
"No, I am not! My husband just told me that I am a super boring person and he was forced to marry me! After six months of me running behind him, people judging me for not making this marriage work, I get to know that my husband never liked me, that I was never someone he would choose to spend his life with!" Meera yelled and broke down. Maze hugged her, and she protested against it but finally gave in.
"Hey, that dick has no right to say that; you aren't boring, not at all," Meera just shook her head against Maze's chest, disagreeing with her.
Maze broke the hug and wiped her tears.
"Look at me. You aren't boring; you are just amazing. Piyush never got to see you dancing on the couch to some weird-ass Bollywood song, never got to see you whoop and cheer when that actor kicked the villains' ass, never got to see how excited you were when they called you for the interview. He never saw you how cool Trixie thinks you are. You are awesome, yaar!" The last word felt foreign on her lips, but Meera smiled at her attempt.
"Don't let some jackass tell you otherwise; because I know how cool you are, and deep down, even you know that, and that's what matters."
"Are you therapizing me?" Meera chuckled and wiped her tears.
"Is it working?"
Meera shook her head in a no and laughed. But her expressions softened, and she asked with innocence on her face.
"Do you really think so?"
"Of course, I know so," Maze caressed her cheeks and leaned in. Months of self-control were out of the window. The anxiety that crept in every time Meera met Piyush was forgotten as she placed her lips on Meera's. Meera froze, and Maze pulled back.
"I am so sorry," she muttered and stood up to leave.
"No, Maze," Meera held her hand tugged at it.
"It's just that no one has ever kissed me before; or told me how good I am."
"Well then, brace yourself for a lot of kisses and compliments," Maze smirked as she placed her lips on Meera's and kissed her. She didn't kiss back but wasn't stoic anymore and melted into the kiss. That was enough, for now, till Maze showed her the other tricks she had up her sleeve.

I had so much fun reading this - I don't watch Lucifer and have watched Cocktail once long ago and have no recollection of it, but still enjoyed this story! I'm all for unusual pairings and inclusivity so bring it on!
