Zoya Akhtar reveals how Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif were roped for Jee Lee Zara

Farhan Akhtar created quite a stir earlier this year when he announced Je Le Zaraa, a film starring Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, and Priyanka Chopra. While the film will be Farhan's directorial debut, it will be an all-female road trip. While the announcement piqued the audience's interest in seeing this trio in one frame for the first time, Zoya Akhtar has revealed how Alia, Katrina, and Priyanka came on board for the film. In an interview with Film Companion, she stated that the actresses had contacted her about collaborating on a film. 

Zoya emphasised that the actresses were unaware that Farhan had pitched a similar idea when they contacted her. "Farhan had a bouncing idea and said, 'I want to do this with girls.'" He had devised it and desired to carry it out. He had only said one line to me. And, completely unrelated to Farhan, I was contacted by the actresses (Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif) who said, 'We want to work together,' because Priyanka had called them. It simply aligned. And I believe if these were the same players ten years ago, it would have happened," Zoya was quoted as saying. 

The acclaimed filmmaker, who is ecstatic about Je Le Zaraa, has lavished praise on the three actresses, claiming that they have distinct personalities. "The only reason you can do it now is because all of the players involved wanted to do it," Zoya explained. Even if three big female stars, filmmakers, and producers said, "Let's do this," it could have happened ten years ago. I believe it is alignment. First and foremost, I believe it is intent. They're huge, all three of them. They're amazing and massive. And what's lovely about them is that they each have their own distinct personality. Nobody is the same as the other."
