Wisdom Wednesday: From Gangster to Manikarnika… The journey of Bollywood controversies favourite child!

You can call her names, talk about her upfront behavior or the controversies she lands herself in every time she opens her mouth; but you cannot deny the fact that Kangana Ranaut is a self-made Superstar. In an era where actor either had to have a godfather or debut with big leading actors like the three Khans – Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan or Salman Khan, Kanganasurvived a more than a decade of her Bollywood career with many successful films without the Khans.

Born in a well-off Rajput landlord family in Himachal Pradesh, Kangana wanted to become a doctor because of her parents’ insistence. But because of her keen interest in fashion, she left her home-town and relocated to Delhi to find her own space and achieve her dreams. It's known that young Kanganaoften used to experiment on her looks and clothes which seemed bizarre to her neighbors.

THE GROWTH OF HER CAREER

At the age of 16, Kangana joined the Elite Modelling Agency and briefly worked as a model. Then she joined various theatre groups to improve her acting skills. After a while when moved to Mumbai, she became apart of Asha Chandra’s drama school for a four-month acting course.

Kangana got her Bollywood debut, at the age of 17, with Anurag Basu’s ‘Gangster’ alongside Emraan Hashmi and Shiney Ahuja. The film was a commercial success and her role was appreciated by the audiences. Kangana’snext stint was Woh Lamhe, a movie loosely based on Parveen Babi's life, her battle with schizophrenia and her relationship with Mahesh Bhatt. And thus began the reign of a leading actor who won many accolades.

A famous critic once wrote, “Kangana is the first female performer of Bollywood since Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi, who isn't scared to strip her soul naked for the camera.”

Ranaut has been the recipient of three National Film Awards - Best Supporting Actress for Fashion (2008), Best Actress for Queen (2014) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015). She has also won four FilmfareAwards - Best Female Debut for Gangster (2006), Best Supporting Actress for Fashion, Best Actress for Queen, and Best Actress - Critics for Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

The Queen not only won many hearts through her incredibleBollywood journey but also forged many rivalries amongst her fellow artists. Her brusque behavior has always got the star in trouble. The main reason behind the controversies is the actress’s love life.

CONTROVERSIES

Kangana was still a struggler when she got into an intimate relationship with a much older and married Aditya Pancholi. Their affair ended on an ugly note when Aditya physically abused Kangana in a drunken haze. Moving on from Aditya, Kangana started dating Adhyayan Suman, her Raaz co-star, who claimed getting assaulted and abused by the actress. Adhyayan also said that Kangana used to perform black magic on him.

Talking about recent famous ongoing controversies of the Tanub Weds Manu actress, she constantly targets ‘Karan Johar and his NEPOTISM gang’, as she likes to call them, for various different reasons, like targeting Alia Bhatt and Soni Razdan for not being able to vote. As if that was not enough, her elder sister Rangoli Chandel keeps bashing actors like Ajay Devgn, Randeep Hooda, and Richa Chadha through her tweets.

Another ongoing controversy is the feud between Kangana and Hrithik Roshan. Their feud quickly became a media-led fight when Kangana called her Krrish co-star a silly ex during one of her interviews. This somehow turned into a legal battle.

Kangana also grabbed eyeballs when she opened up about her struggling days and how producer Pahlaj Nihalani wanted her to audition for ‘I Love You Boss’ in just a flimsy satin robe. Her sister Rangoli also revealed how Mahesh Bhatt had thrown a chappal at Kangana at the preview of Woh Lamhe.

Well, Kangana surely is living the time of her life with Mental Hai Kya, Panga and Jayalalitha’s biopic under her belt. Though she has become a media-favorite because of her constant comments and revelations, Kangana has done a commendable job in handling a Bollywood career without any godfather to support her.
