Films
and society are reflected in each other. Filmmakers and actors constantly make
efforts to make a positive impact on the audiene. But what happens when people
draw 'inspiration' from the 'wrong' portrayed in films?!
The kidnapping of Snapdeal employee Dipti Sarna (24) had the police flummoxed and the whole country gripped. Days after Dipti returned home unharmed and set free by her abductors, police was left confounded about questions in the case.
Five days after e-commerce senior
executive Dipti Sarna (24) was abducted on her way home in Ghaziabad, five men
were arrested in connection with the case. Police said the prime accused and
mastermind of the plan had been following her for months and was inspired by
Shah Rukh Khan's movie, 'Darr', in which the star was obsessed by Juhi Chawla's character to the extent of kidnapping and killing. The man who has been detained by the police said he took inspiration from the 1993 film to follow Dipti for 14 months before staging her kidnapping. He had first seen Dipti in Delhi Metro.
When Shah Rukh was asked about his take on this incident, he said, Celebrities do have an amazing effect on fans. I feel we affect people more positively and less negatively...Our work influences them in a bigger way than we think. No filmmaker tells a story to inspire anything negative in people. There are times when people get negatively affected. It is unfortunate." [sic]
"Darr was a story of this obsessive lover, who can give life for the woman he loves and he does. It wasn't meant to inspire negative things. But I do feel our film touch poeple's lives," he said at the press conference held post launch of a song from his upcoming film Fan. [sic]

Earlier, 'Darr' actress Juhi Chawla, filmmakers Mahesh Bhatt and Hansal Mehta said you can't blame Bollywood for this incident.
