Actress Amita Khopkar, who is seen on Star Plus' Tu Mera Hero, is winning accolades for her performance on the show. We ask this maharashtrain actress about the Gudi Padwa celebration, its significance and more with us...
Amita says, "Gudi Pada is a very important festival for Maharastrian people as it is their new year and first day of a New Year. Basically on this day everyone erects a gudi and places it in on the roof of their house. The gudi is tied to a stick on which a cloth is placed and finally on the top a lota is kept. Then a garland consisting battasha is hung."
Putting light on the significance of the festival, Amita says, "The significance of this gudi is basically in the earlier days when the warriors used to win the war and when they used to come back in their city or village, everyone used to place this gudi to signify it as the victory. So on the day of Gudi Padwa we put up the gudi to show the sign of victory on the very first day of the New Year so that we win in the entire year. The Gudi is placed on the roof of the house for entire day and is removed just before the sun sets. The entire day is considered very auspicious, so if you want to do anything good, you don't have to wait for any mahurat because the entire day is auspicious."
We further asked her about what special delicacies she prepares for the day to which she replied saying, "On Gudi Padwa, Shrikhand Puri, Basundi Puri and Jalebi are the compulsory dishes prepared, no other dish is made apart from these dishes. I make Basundi Puri because my son likes it a lot and even I like it a lot.
"I will work on this Gudi Padwa, as I didn't get an
off. I will try to make something for my co actors but due to shortage
of time, I doubt I will be able to prepare any dish. Still, I will order
something from out and will treat my co-stars on the sets," ends Amita.
TellyBuzz wishes Amita Khopkar a Happy Gudi Padwa !
