But it was her three-year-long relationship with director Mahesh Bhatt that grabbed maximum attention. Mahesh, who was already married to Kiran Bhatt at the time, got into a relationship with Parveen in 1977. She was recovering from her breakup with Kabir Bedi when she met Mahesh.

In a recent interview with BBC News Hindi, Mahesh Bhatt revealed a lesser-known chapter of Parveen's life. He shared, “About her getting married, I got to know about it later when we were already in a relationship. When her mother would visit from Junagadh, she would discuss this sometimes, by then we were in a relationship. I was living with her. So then it was discussed that she had been married once, and then the man moved to Pakistan.”

Mahesh also mentioned that years later, when he went to Pakistan for the Kara Film Festival, he was told that Parveen’s ex-husband wanted to meet him. He recalled, “I was told that someone wants to meet you, but I couldn’t meet him. I never said I don’t want to meet him, but it somehow did not work out.”

This revelation adds yet another complex layer to Parveen Babi’s already tragic story. She was a superstar on the outside but battled mental illness and loneliness on the inside. Sadly, in 2005, she was found dead in her Mumbai flat. She was just 55. Her life remains a mix of glamour and grief — a reminder that even the brightest stars can face the darkest nights.
