The highlight of this week was the Mangeshkar sisters’. Both the reality shows this week saw the revered Mangeshkar sisters as the celebrity guests. In VOI, it was Lata Mangeskar and Usha Mangeshkar who were present, while in SRGMP, Asha Bhosle was the celebrity guest.

VOI Finale and SRGMP Lil Champs - A Critical Review..
Star Voice of India had its Grand Finale this week, thus ending the 6 month long journey to crown Ishmeet Singh from Ludhiana as the “Voice of India”. The grand finale was a grand affair with many celebrities gracing the show. Madhuri Dixit and Lata Mangeshkar were the guest of honour’s. The Finale also saw all the “Bemisal Barah” performing again on the stage, and they all made sure not to disappoint the viewers. Harshit, the runners-up, with Ishmeet made sure to steal everyone’s heart with mind-blowing performances. Even on Friday, the studio episode saw many celebrities grace the show, and the finalists gave awesome performances. It was interesting to note that in the duet song between Ishmeet and Kavita Krishnamurti where Ishmeet gave a flawless performance, Kavita faltered as his co-singer. The only sore point during the Grand finale was the way regionalism was being dragged into the show. The repeated comment by Shaan that Ishmeet’s victory means the “Victory of Punjab” could have been avoided at this stage. The show format was to select the winner through public voting, then why take away his moment of triumph?

VOI Finale and SRGMP Lil Champs - A Critical Review..
SaReGaMaPa had Asha Bhosle as the celebrity guest on both the days. L'il Champs tried their best to impress the Melody Queen, but it seemed all were in awe of her presence, and with every other contestant going through throat infection, they ended up giving “not up to the mark” performances. Asha Bhosle’s rendition of “Katra Katra” with Loria proved once more that this legendary singer is still in top form, and is really one of the most versatile singers from the current and bygone era. The grading given by the judges was bit erratic showing a big disparity. A third judge is being missed a lot in the show. At the end of the show on Saturday, three good contestants were found to be at the bottom. The judges after deliberating among themselves decided not to go for any elimination, and opted to have two eliminations next week - one contestant each day, next weekend. It seems bit unfair as far as the rules go, but maybe, they took the decision keeping in view that the L'il Champs got their acts ready in just a few hours time, after Karishma Kapoor cancelled her visit due to ill health at the last moment. The theme and thus the songs had to be altered.

In these musical shows, the most important thing is to have a lucid and clear cut show format, especially more so, because it’s a kid’s show, and they go through tremendous mental pressure every time the format is readjusted, or last minute changes are dumped on them. Next week. another L'il Champ show is starting on Star Plus, and we can only hope that both the channels take note of this point and do something about it.

The girls were superb. i felt so happy for Abhilasha when she was presented with a car. It was great to see Maduri & Lata ji on stage. The chote ustad sang brilliantly and im pretty sure that the kids show which is starting soon will be a huge success. It was the best Grand Finale of the year for me.

Coming to the lil champs im pretty much happy that no elimination took place because some of them were having a sore throat. if they would have had an elimination then a really good singer would have gone out. so its great there was no elimination.

Ammu @ammmu 16 years ago I was actually pretty upset that there was no elimination - especially that the main reason was that throats were bad... i do understand why they did that, but hmmmm I'm still kind of upset that there wasn't an elimination. Anyways...

thanks Barnalidi!

Harman @Herman_4u 16 years ago but doesn't that happen in everyone's case. i mean wen someone is from bengal, i've heard a lot of people including the one in the show saying that it's victory of bengal. wat's wrong with victory of punjab. i mean, if u wanna eliminate this fact then do it for everyone, not only for ishmeet. rite?

*Jaya* @*Jaya* 16 years ago I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how Ishmeet picked up when it really boiled down to the final 2...

Gr8 to see Abhaas, Abhilasha and Arshpreet perform again in the finale.. They do remain the best finds of the show....

In Lil Champs, no eliminations was the biggest setback for the show and a complete turn-off for me... Rules are rules and need to be followed!

advil @advil 16 years ago The bemisaal barah were really good on the grand finale day. great pics.

In SRGMP I did not like this rule bending thing...for whatever reasons it may be a rule is a rule and if they ahd to change they should have said before the show started that there woulde be no elimination, its not fair to take sides this way...

Sanz @smartc 16 years ago Thanks for a wonderful analysis Barnali di. But u know what was there in the finale for moi *lol*. For me, I didnt care about the lights, didn't care about the regionalism, didn't care about who was going to win and certainly didn't care about who was going to sing what but was only focused on Irfan :D. A bit selfish on my part but is mai dil ka kya kasoor ;) Irfan rocked. In fact, all 4 performances by Prantik, Abhaas, Toshi and Irfan were simply fab! Can't say the same for the girls part though! Anyhow, the finale of SVOI was worth it for me because of Irfan ;) Btw, thanks for including his picture in the slideshow TB :)
