Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers shared insights into a recent exchange with Virat Kohli, assuring fans that the Indian cricket sensation is in good spirits. Kohli, who withdrew from the first two Tests against England, is reportedly spending quality time with his family, anticipating the arrival of his second child with his wife Anushka Sharma.

AB de Villiers applauded Kohli's decision, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing family. In a recent YouTube show, he mentioned, "All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well."

The former South African skipper also revealed the heartwarming exchange he had with Kohli through text messages. "I wrote to him 'Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?'. He said 'Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well.' Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it's family time, and things are important to him."

Acknowledging the significance of family, AB de Villiers added, "If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people's priority is family. You can't judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him. But he has made absolutely the right decision."

For the unversed, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, married in 2017, are expecting their second child. The couple celebrated their daughter Vamika's third birthday in January. De Villiers also pointed out that Kohli had similarly prioritized family in 2021 when he returned home during a Test series to be present for the birth of their first child.

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) urged privacy for the family, rumours surrounding Kohli's break from the Test series were dispelled by his brother, Vikas, who confirmed their mother's well-being.
