Vidya Balan First Look for Shakuntala Devi biopic out; starts shooting in London

The makers of the Shakuntala Devi biopic released the first motion teaser poster of Vidya Balan posing as the Human Computer and Math Wizard, and it looks intriguing…

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is known for playing various roles like a pro. From being a housewife in Tumhari Sulu to portraying the life of Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture, the versatile actress is all set to essay the role of human computer and math wizard Shakuntala Devi.

Vidya is all set to start shooting for the biopic from today in London. The makers took to their official social media handle and shared the biopic’s first motion poster. At the end of the video, Vidya can be seen striking a pose while sporting a short hairdo and a simple red saree.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, also took to his official Twitter account and wrote, “Filming begins today... Vidya Balan as #ShakuntalaDevi... Based on the life of mathematical genius, the ‘human computer’ - Shakuntala Devi... Directed by Anu Menon... Summer 2020 release... Produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Abundantia Entertainment.”

Talking about the role Vidya had said, “I am extremely excited to play the ‘human computer’ Shakuntala Devi on the big screen. She was truly someone who embraced her individuality, had a strong feminist voice and braved many a naysayer to reach the pinnacle of success. But what truly fascinates me is that you wouldn’t normally associate a fun person with math...and she completely turns that perception on its head.”

She also revealed that, the team is proud to bring to life the story of “one of the most inspiring women of this country.” “How incredible that The Math Genius, The Human Computer, was a small-town Indian girl, who took the world by storm,” she added.

Director Anu Menen told Mid-Day in an interview, “I have always been fascinated by Shakuntala Devi and felt that hers is an incredible story that had to be told. She was an extraordinary woman, who lived ahead of her times and on her own terms, unapologetically.”

The movie is all set to release during summer 2020.
