This Gandhi Jayanti, see what your favorite celebs have to share!
I remember once I went out with some of my friends and we saw a little girl begging money on a traffic signal. When we refused, she knocked another car window. She handed over her begged money to her father who was sitting under some shop and looked fit and healthy to earn his own money. I went to him to call him off. He made up all kind of stories of misery and poor health. Clearly, he was lying but I ended up buying food for both of them rather than giving cash.

I avoid lying as much as possible but once I had to lie as I wanted to remain at home rather than going for a get-together at my friend's place. Later on when I felt guilty, I called him up, apologized and explained my situation. Shockingly, he understood and said it was all right! Really, people do understand if you are being honest with them.
When I needed a break for a mini vacation which in our field is quite difficult, I was always honest with the producer that I need a break to unwind myself and for traveling. I could have ask holidays for any other things but I decided to tell them the truth. I still believe honesty is the best policy.
Once I visited a restaurant where the manager was quite rude to the waiter but was buttering the customers. When I left, I just said thank you to the waiter, I am pretty much sure he felt rather flattered. Little gratitude will take us miles away.
On this Independence Day, I saw a man playing patriotic songs way too loudly early in the morning in my neighborhood. A boy pleaded him not to raise the volume as he was studying. The man refused to say he was playing patriotic tracks. I managed to convince him by saying to lower the volume until late morning, that way the boy could study and the man enjoyed his Independence Day. Democracy is for everyone but it needs a little understanding.
I always stop people whenever I see them throwing garbage here and there and stop them from ruining public property. One day I saw a girl throwing plastic glass on the sidewalk when the dustbin was just nearby. When I told her this, she started to back answer and told me to throw her used plastic glass if I care so much. Of course, I picked it up and threw it into the dustbin in front of her and the other people, not a big deal!
One of my relatives had some work in a government office. I went with them but the clerk was taking his own sweet time to get our work done. Finally when I got fed up with waiting, I moved up to his desk and told him that we were waiting for hours and by this time our work should be done. He did it afterward. I guess he wouldn't have done it if I had shouted at him. I just handled the matter smoothly.
