"The smell in hospitals is nauseating."- Pooja Gor on Ek Nayi Ummeed...Roshni

Pooja Gor is not only immensely talented but good looking and charming. As she gears up for her stint in Life OK's Ek Nayi Ummeed...Roshni, we speak to her about the steps she took to get into the character of Dr. Roshni with such perfection and her return on television with a daily soap.

 

My character, Dr. Roshni is a headstrong and determined person. As a doctor she lives by the ethics and morals set in the medical profession. She is the kind of person who believes that patients are not just ward numbers and looks at every patient as a life. To save lives is her first religion even if it calls for breaking the protocol set by the hospital.

A lot of hard work and planning has been put into for donning Dr. Roshni. The medical profession is something we all are not aware of. I visited Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute where I meet doctors understood the terminologies and saw what happens when it calls for an emergency. I play a resident surgeon who lives in UK so I visited those surgeons too and understood how to talk to patients and behave like a doctor. 

Also, basic training sessions included learning how to hold injections and wearing gloves. While shooting, we have a set of doctors who guide us on what to do while shooting for operation sequences so we don't pick up random instruments.

The idea of visiting hospitals is scary. I do not like the smell one gets in a hospital. It is nauseating. I personally avoid going to a doctor too. But since I opted to play a doctor, I had to visit hospitals and be surrounded with a lot of patients around me. There was no go. 

Any work clubbed with travel is always fun. It was a superb experience.

Yes. Savdhaan India I informed people about staying away from crime. Roshni...too will impart some knowledge about maintaining good health.

(Laughs) I hope so! I know the medical terminology and a few things but becoming a doctor is a different ball game all together. It is a lot of study!

After Pratigya, I wanted to take a year-long break. It is straining to do a daily soap and hence I took up something where I got time to enjoy personal life too. I was offered fiction shows but they did not excite me. I cannot be a part of shows highlighting kitchen politics. I cannot relate to the character and hence I will not be able to justify it. 

I was very nervous on the first day of shoot. I introduced my self and he introduced himself say "Hi I am Amol Palekar". He did not need to! This itself shows how rounded he is as a person. He is very approachable and humble. He not only guides us on the show but also when we approach him on his opinion about a personal problem.
