It almost feels like the Cannes film festival is incomplete without seeing Aishwarya Rai walk the red carpet and prove day and again why she is the queen of Cannes. Well, the moment finally arrived on day 9 of the festival when Aishwarya broke the internet as she entered the red carpet in a white saree look with a cape-like trail and exuded ultimate 'regal' vibes, showing it to everyone that she is here to reign and slay. But what caught the eyes of eagle-eyed netizens is how her look felt inspired by that of Rekha, and users were quick to comment- 'rekhafication of Aishwarya Rai', 'she is giving Rekha core' and more.

Rekha has always been an iconic figure when it comes to serving looks, especially with her loud and bold makeup and flashy sarees, giving her an edge to flaunt Indianness with a touch of flair and drama proudly. As testified by the fashion page 'diet sabya', he called it a moment of Camp. Comparing the looks of Rekha and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, he wrote, "Camp, as per mata Susan Sontag, is when fashion stops being functional and starts being foolishly fabulous. It's irony in couture, drama without apology, and vibes over logic. Think REKHACORE. It's not about good taste, it's about too much taste. Extra, theatrical, and painfully self-aware!."
Aishwarya Rai made a stunning appearance in a beautiful ivory Banarasi saree that celebrated Indian handloom. The saree was made using the traditional Kadwa weaving technique from Varanasi, where each design is created by hand with great care. This method is known for its complexity and is a proud example of the skill of Indian weavers.

Her saree featured silver threadwork (zari) that was both woven and hand-embroidered using real silver. She wore it with a soft, sheer white dupatta that had gold and silver embroidery along the edges, adding a rich, elegant touch. The entire outfit moved away from the usual red carpet fashion, showing the saree not just as a traditional garment, but as a modern, stylish choice for global events.
To complete her look, Aishwarya wore heritage jewellery from Manish Malhotra, including more than 500 carats of Mozambique rubies and uncut diamonds set in 18k gold. Bold ruby rings added to the regal feel of the outfit. Her look celebrated Indian textiles and craftsmanship, showing how fashion can be both meaningful and powerful.
