One of the most anticipated award functions of the year- The Emmys 2016, took place just hours ago and it definitely was a scintillating affair. Considered to be the Oscars of television, Emmy Awards are the biggest prize for any TV person and it gets bigger and better with every passing year.

This year's Emmys was another amalgamation of various events, where Jimmy Kemmel hosted the evening reasonably well, the Bill Cosby joke falling flat, a lot of surprise winners and several shocking snubs.

Hence, here you go, as we round up the Emmy Awards 2016.

Disclaimer- These are only the principle category awards mentioned while several of these series have won more awards in the technical categories as well.

Veep

The woman just doesn't stop winning, does she? Julia Louis-Dreyfus bagged her 5th consecutive 'Lead Actress Award' and we don't see this unassailable record being broken anytime soon.

Transparent

Jeffrey Tambor bagged his 2nd consecutive award for the show and gave a brilliant message on-stage about casting transgenders for roles suitable to them instead of cisgenders.

People Vs O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story

The biggest winner of the night, 'People Vs O.J. Simpson' swooped the show with the maximum awards, nine in total which include four principal awards. One of the most critically acclaimed shows of the year went on to win most of the big prizes.

Saturday Night Live

The biggest surprise of the night was Kate McKinnon winning the Supporting Actress Award for Comedy Series, where she had tough competition in the category from stalwarts.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver

This one almost had several people rooting for it, as it was assumed that John Oliver doesn't get the appreciation it deserves and this award is a perfect answer to all of them.

The Night Manager

The limited series was an absolute surprise when it comes to crisp writing and fantastic direction. Of course, the starcast was never a problem, as Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie were the principal cast members.

American Crime

Regina added another feather to her cap being a part of the family of American Crime and American Horror Story. Now a director, she continues to prove her acting prowess too.

The Voice

Winning the award for the 2nd consecutive year, 'The Voice' has been amazing and with the upcoming season already being the talk of the town, it gets better.

Mr. Robot

Rami Malek's brilliance in 'Mr. Robot' finally earning him what we deserves. A slap to all who think outcasts can't make it big.

Orphan Black

Another surprise and one that was a pleasant one, Tatiana Maslany won her much-awaited Leading Actress Award.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride

He just doesn't do anything wrong, does he? Benedict Cumberbatch keeps winning it all and we keep loving him over and over again.

Game Of Thrones

The biggest drama series continues its record-breaking streak, and if added the 2016 Emmy Awards, it has the MAXIMUM EMMY AWARDS for any Drama Series ever. And it also won the Best Drama Series for the 2nd consecutive year.
