Stranger Things is undoubtedly one of the most popular and loved shows currently, and it continues to garner a lot of fan following with time passing by.

The creators of the show, Duffer Brothers were in for an unanticipated surprise, as Director Charlie Kessler, known for his work on Luke Cage and Daredevil went on to accuse the former for stealing the plot of one of his short film for Stranger Things.

According to a report in The Guardian, the Duffer Brothers are being sued by a director who claims that he he screened the short film, titled Montauk, to Matt and Ross Duffer in 2014, in the hope of developing it into a full-length feature. Kessler alleges that the pair then used elements of the work as the basis for Stranger Things.

According to the lawsuit, Montauk's storyline features a number of elements similar to those seen in the Netflix series, including children with enhanced thoughts and abilities, a military facility that carries out secret experiments on humans and a monstrous creature from another dimension.

The suit also notes that the Duffers' series was given the working title of The Montauk Project, with the series originally set in the Long Island town of Montauk before the setting was ultimately changed to Indiana. Both the series and the short film are inspired by rumours of a secret military operation titled Project Montauk, which is said to have conducted experiments on humans.

However, according to Bleeding Cool.Com, TMZ has reportedly obtained emails that prove The Duffer Brothers were developing a "Montauk" series as early as November 2010 - 3-1/2 years before Kessler claims to have pitched the idea behind his short film The Montauk Project to them.

TMZ claimed to have had the access to the following documents-

Two emails from November 2010, where The Duffer Brothers begin mapping out their vision for a "real," "paranormal" "gritty eighties" show; with one email specifically setting the show in Montauk and referencing "the Montauk experiments."

A Google document from October 4, 2013, that brings together the premise for Stranger Things: "Benny (Will in the show) leaves his friend Elliot's house, a bunch of kids are there, eating pizza, dungeons and dragons ... Benny leaves on bike, hears voices, goes into strange world, taken by some evil force."

Two emails - one from February 27, 2014 and another from April 4, 2014 - that continue to lay out the vision for the show, before the alleged meeting between The Duffer Brothers and Kessler. The pair see the show "...set in 1980s Long Island" with "a vintage Stephen King feel;" with the April 4 email referencing a location scout in Montauk.

We hope the whole saga is resolved soon.
