Actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay was at the center of a controversy on Monday after a tense moment unfolded at the Madurai airport in Tamil Nadu. A large group of fans had gathered outside the airport to see him, and one elderly fan managed to break past the security barrier, resulting in a heated response from the actor's personal guards.
In a video widely circulated on social media, Vijay is seen arriving at the airport and walking towards the entrance with his security team. As he moves forward, an older man from the crowd approaches him, prompting an immediate reaction from his bodyguards. One of the guards is seen drawing a firearm and pointing it at the fan before escorting him away. Vijay did not react to the disturbance and continued inside the terminal. The video has sparked mixed responses online. Some have defended the security team’s decision, arguing that the fan’s actions posed a potential safety risk. Others questioned the use of a weapon in what appeared to be a non-violent situation and criticised Vijay for not acknowledging the fan or intervening during the confrontation.

During a recent rally held by his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), supporters were seen climbing structures and even attempting to reach Vijay’s vehicle in their excitement. Vijay, one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars, has announced that he will step away from acting after completing his upcoming film, Jana Nayagan. The film, his 69th, is expected to be his final appearance on screen. His focus will then shift entirely to political work, as he prepares to lead TVK into the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. According to reports, he plans to contest independently, without aligning with established parties such as AIADMK.
The airport incident has added a new layer to the challenges Vijay may face as he transitions from cinema to a more public political role, where crowd management and public image will be closely watched.
