Story so far: As the title suggests it's about two girls, Swara Bose (Helly Shah) and Ragini Gadodia (Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar) and the hostility between their families. Swara and Ragini both, are studying music, compete with each other in a contest, the winner of which will get a chance to perform at inter-college competition. Ragini performs Indian classical while Swara plays her guitar. Ragini breaks cord of her Veena due to which Swara wins the contest which infuriate the former's Dadi Parvati Gadodia (Alka Kaushal) tremendously. To add to the insult, Swara's Dida aka Shobha Bose (Tanima Sen) taunts her. One word leads to another and before both the girls could stop them, Dadi and Dida start fighting in front of the entire college. To take revenge on Bose family, Parvati Gadodia tries to garnish Sharmishta Bose's (Parineeta Borthakur) image who works in a jewelry shop. When Swara comes to know of Parvati's tactics, she gets even by entering Gadodia house with fishes, due to which Parvati admits her defeat and clears Sharmishta's name.
Though the hatred for each other is obvious, there is some strange connection between Swara's mother Sharmistha Bose and Ragini's father Shekhar Gadodia (Sachin Tyagi). Girls are bewildered to find out the reason behind such level of loathing between their families and try to find out from their elders but in vain. Amid all this, Ragini's marriage is fixed in affluent Maheshwari family. Bold and practical, Swara suggests Ragini to find out more about her future husband and her family but docile Ragini doesn't find it necessary. Swara takes it upon herself to find out more about Maheshwaris. She reaches their home, when the Gadodias and Maheshwaris are discussing marriage and by mistake get caught. Gadodias are upset on Swara's intrusion and insults her. To add it, Shekhar even hits her saying that A girl with no father around will certainly lack in manners.'
This disturbs Swara to no end. When Sharmistha and Dida come to know about the incident, they too are enraged. Surprisingly, this time its mild temper Sharmistha who wants to take charge of the situation and go and meet Shekhar. During their conversation, Sharmistha spills the beans that Swara is Shekhar's daughter and warns him not to hurt her daughter any more. Shekhar is shaken by Sharmistha's revelation. Unware of Shekhar and Sharmistha, Swara too hears it. Three of them are connected with this secret. While coming Swara comes across Lakshya Maheshwari who tries to be smart with her but with her presence of mind she overcomes the situation. After reaching home, unable to keep the secret with herself, Swara shares it with Ragini but the latter refuse to believe it.
What works: From the promos it was obvious that there was some connection between the girls but Swara being Shekhar and Sharmistha's love child born out of wedlock is little unexpected. Both girls have different personalities, style which is refreshing to watch. Parinita Borthakur as Sharmistha with her stunning expressive eyes doesn't need much words to convey her emotions. Sachin Tyagi looks suave and mature enough to play father to teenage daughters. Their chemistry looks natural. Dadi -Alka Kaushal and Dida- Tanima Sen, both bring out the perfect nuances of the Marwari and Bengali culture respectively.
What doesn't work: Dadi's governing behavior with Ragini looks bit far-fetched in present modern days. Fights between them too seem childish at some time. There is no mention of Shekhar and Sharmistha's partners. If both the families can't stand each other, why they stay in the same building is quite puzzling.
Our take: It's a journey of two girls drastically different from each other, in their personalities, upbringing and values, bonded with a common thread. It is full of drama as well as entertainment and make for gripping watch. Fresh backdrop of Kolkatta enthralls the viewers. 9:30 PM prime time time slot makes the tale featuring real and identifiable characters suitable for family viewing.
